I'm so obsessed with Gianino's Pastries. We've been looking for a new go-to donut spot in SJ, as our old favorite just wasn't cutting it anymore, and I stumbled upon this delight. The donuts are so delicious and every time I get them they are fresh. The store has a nice selection of classic flavors, our favorites are the ricotta cannoli donuts by far. You heard me, cannoli cream filled into a powdered donut, it's so tasty. The boston cream and regular glazed are really good too! We've also tried their regular cannolis and enjoyed them as well. The counter workers are always kind and attentive, and I never have to wait to long. It's a small little store front with lots of hidden goodies, I'd definitely recommend a stop. Cannoli cake. It's simple. It's a cake that has icing that is similar to cannoli filling. White sponge with chocolate chips and a flourish or two for toppings, usually including cannoli shells in some way. Let me tell you what it's not. It's not a Booz drowned sponge with vanilla icing covered in a shell of chocolate. That might be a good cake for someone, but it's not cannoli cake. My wife ordered a cannoli cake for me for my birthday. It looked really nice. It didn't at all taste like cannoli and was drowned in Booz. Soggy, ruined texture. None of us liked it. Now we have an extremely expensive waste of food in our fridge. I'm not even that disappointed. I'm just not going to eat it. What I'm upset about is how my wife drove 20 minutes to get an expensive cake and no one told her the cake tastes nothing like that they called it. I'm upset because she went out of her way to make me happy only to have it not be what I asked for. Had they simply told her what the cake was, she wouldn't have gotten it. I've asked her not to go back. This bakery doesn't deserve the business. read more

I was quite disappointed with the cake I ordered because it was bland. There's more frosting than the cake itself.

I really had high hopes for this bakery and was left with a "meh" feeling. I went here specifically for St. Joseph's Zeppoles and did not want to go to Philly for them. My order consisted of the vanilla custard and the ricotta filled zeppoles . They were both just okay. Not very flavorful. The best thing we ordered was a rum cannoli. It was very good. They are known for the cannolis. Customer service was great . Would I go back probably not. read more

We were visiting our local family and craving some of the great foods we can not get in Florida. We used to live in the Italian Market and knew we would not get to South​ Philly. My sister-in-law showed up for breakfast one of our first mornings with a box of freshly made cannoli​, a mix of traditional, mint chocolate chip and Italian rum. Ah-mazing! I only eat traditional cannoli, and the smooth,​ creamy ricotta and crunchy shell were everything I missed and remembered. I'm so impressed with Gianino's. I typically spend a lot of money and time around the holidays going into the city to get my cannoli from potito's and my tiramisu from Isgro's. This year, i had tried Gianino for a cake for my friends' engagement party, and i ordered late.. Like 24 hours notice late. Still, the next day, i had s beautiful cake ready to display! So I decided to order my cannoli and tiramisu from Gianino this year, and they did NOT disappoint! As good, if not better, than my old South Philly stand bys. Plus, I didn't have to stand in line, outside, at Isgro's for two hours with a paid order in my hands. Parking is easy due to a large shopping center setting, and access is easy, with lights. read more

My mom has been getting cookies and baked goods from Gianino's for some time. I recently went there myself and found the Italian Rum cannolis incredibly delicious. I find rum cake far too rich and it spoils but a cannoli is the perfect erving size. My son loves them! Their recent renovation makes the place look sleek and really nice. read more

My parents are celebrating their 25th anniversary and my family and I decided to surprise them with a nice dinner. Since it was last minute I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get a cake on time. The week before I walked in to Gianino's and Nino (the owner) was so nice and accommodating when I showed him a picture of what I wanted. He suggested some adjustments that would work better and I agreed happily. I brought in my own cake topper and Nino made it shine. It looked AMAZING when I came to pick it up and then when we ate it after dinner? AMAZING again! The chocolate cake was so moist and the buttercream frosting was delicate and not overpoweringly sweet. I will definitely recommend this place to my friends and family. 5/5 from me. Wow, what bakery is open late? This one and very yummy to boot! We only got cupcakes, which were DELISH but they had their 'famous' buttercream donuts, which I'll meet in the near future! The cakes I saw were absolutely beautiful and the cookies looked sumptuous. Mommom found out about this place from some ladies at her hairdressers over in Belmawr, So when mother said she wanted to try "the best" I was sent over here to pick them up. They had a 4 for $10 dollar special, but seeing as nobody in our family really likes cannoli's and my mom just wanted to try a "real" one, I opted for 2. The girl working the counter was super helpful. She actually did one the traditional way, and the other with custard (i think.) I didn't bother trying the traditional cannoli, but mom said it was good. The one with custard was awesome, the canolli tube was really good, and even after a four hour car journey and a night in the fridge it was still crisp and flavor full. We also got the doughnuts the other commented about. They were good, but the powdered sugar went every where. Good sweets. Good service. Of course I'll be back. read more

I was very disappointed - especially since so many others gave such good reviews. We did go in right before closing, so I suppose the cupcakes and pastries had been sitting out all day - but is that a reason to expect a lesser quality product? I should hope not, because I have bought cupcakes at other bakeries and they lasted nicely for days. Anyway, at $2.50 per cupcake, I expected a good one. What I got instead was a hard, dry cake and the small amount of "cream cheese" frosting had chunks of cream cheese and wasn't very good. Their selection wasn't very impressive, either. read more

They did my whole entire wedding cake and dessert table in 1990. Back then they were great. Recently I went to store and the cases weren't filled, they didn't have much of a choice in product and they had "show" cakes and cookies then went in back to get mine. This to me means they don't have a big turnover and don't put a lot out. For an Italian pastry shop, there should be an abundance of desserts! Very disappointed. What I did get, I wasn't happy with. Cakes were dry and the $15 party tray, while great concept, the pastries were horrible and tasted like they were frozen. read more

Tremendous. I purchased a Strawberry Shortcake this last Saturday . The cake exceeded our expectations. The cake was for a 65 birthday and over 60 people were at the party. Everyone ate cake.
