This Giant Eagle does more than a decent job stocking items and having pleasant cashiers. Tonight, a Tuesday at 7pm, there are no lines to checkout. WHAAA??? OK. THAT never happens. A very nice cashier even called me over to her lane and was so incredibly nice, telling me to leave heavy items in the cart and she would come around to scan and making sure at the end of my transaction I had pulled all the bags of items from the carousel. And during this COVID pandemic tonight I found paper products (TP, paper towels) in plenty supply. And I picked up the last 2 GE brand hand soaps for 1.00 each. This is my preferred GE location on the way home from work. Kennywood is closer to home but produce is not as fresh. And. As with all GE locales, masks are mandatory with guards at the entrance to enforce and clean carts are inside the store and one way aisles are the way... read more

The pharmacy at Edgewood Towne Center Giant Eagle does not value the time of its customers and apparently doesn't much value the time of its staff either for there is never enough employees working dispense medication in a timely manner. Never. The store ownership group was ambitious when they installed the pharmacy, for there are 6 service windows built into the counter. Most of the time, there is only one person staffing the counter. The line is usually to the back of the store and don't be surprised if you get to the window after a 15 wait to learn that your medication isn't ready and that another 15 to 20 minute wait will be necessary. Should you phone ahead and check if it is ready? Well, you can try but they probably won't answer the phone. When you get frustrated about them not answering and decide to just go there and see, you will stand in line and quite possibly hear an unanswered phone ringing while you wait. As you approach the 45-minute mark on your wait, a fun way to pass the time is to think about the profits the ownership group is making thanks to its shoe-string staffing measures and contrast that with how little your own time is worth to them. read more

I buy from Giant Eagle mainly for convenience since this is where we buy our prescriptions now that I am retired and they are a Medicare preferred vendor. Since Covid hit and I almost died from it 4 years ago I tend to order online and pick up my order, again for convenience. The downside is that I do not go into the store all that often so I don't select my merchandise but depend on a "shopper" to make selections for me - most times they do a great job - but often the brand I select disappoints. I selected Giant Eagle brand applewood bacon and this is what I got. As I separated the slices of bacon I found that the slices varied from thick to super thin and in between and then underneath the slices I found this clump of short fatty slices that I were gross. I guess they could be used if you were trying to melt them down to make a greasy puddle to fry breaded chicken in, but I don't cook in grease and to me they are just garbage and something I've paid for but cannot use. This is disappointing that I've paid for a pound of bacon but certainly did not get a usable pound of bacon. read more

Since the corporation took over this store last fall (it was previously owned by a private owner) things have really improved. It's cleaner and there are many new employees, all of whom will not just answer your questions, but if you are looking for something, they will take you right to it. The counters, from the deli and prepared foods, as well as the meat department are now fully staffed. I am there about twice a week, sometimes just for the pharmacy, but each time the cash registers have been well staffed and there are multiple people available to help. I haven't noticed many differences in the stock, but other than what is on my list, I don't really check anything else. If you haven't been in the store for the last six months, or longer, it's worth trying to shop there. read more

With the recent update at this location it is much easier to navigate the store. It's nicer, bigger and has a better selection of ready made foods. It's amazing how a remodel can make an establishment a much better place to shop. Still putting on a few finishing touches here and there, but I might actually stop in more frequently to pick up something quick to eat at the ready made counters. It'll make it easier when I'm running late after the gym to just pick it up and go from here. Parking lot is still a mess, but will hardly ever change. I left a suit to be dry-cleaned at this location three months ago and the store lost it. After two visits to the store, three phone calls with customer service and two conversations with the manager over the past three months Giant Eagle has made no effort to reimburse me. Only bring your dry cleaning here if you don't care about ever seeing it again. read more

This grocery store sucks to shop at. They randomly stop carrying certain products, often maximize their shelf space with generic or unhealthy products, and have a huge turnover for their nicer staff. Three issues with this particular giant eagle. The first and worst issue is they refuse to staff enough cashiers (see pic). You can literally spend 40 minutes checking out in there, which is ridiculous. Second, their carts too often have bad wheels. Not sure why they don't invest in some higher end carts. Third, for whatever reason their green peppers look like they've fought wars. It's a weird quirk about this place but their green peppers are almost always terrible. I visit here quite frequently. The prices can be a little high at times but if you get their weekly ads you can definitely shop and get those discounts with your advantage card which is highly recommended. For every $50 you spend you can get .10 cents off per gallon at the local get go and that always comes in handy if you drive. If you don't drive then you can use your points to get a nice percentage off of your food tab which I would recommend for a large food shop day so you can really get the savings you deserve. Some days it can be a little packed but if you go early morning you won't have any issues you can be in and out with no problem but in the day be prepared to wait a little. The pharmacy is always nice to visit. I like the staff there and I feel like I truly know them for coming in there every so often to get medicine filled and with your advantage card you can also earn savings as well. Dawaynw and Joe are fantastic!! Along with other staff members at the pharmacy but I don't recall their names. They are pretty quick here and just call before hand and you'll be all set read more

The service: It's hit or miss. If you try to pay for dog food in the beer section, some employees will let you. Some will say they can't ring it up. My favorite was the time I stood in the "express lane" for 20 minutes when the cashier told me when it was finally my turn that he was closing. No warning. No heads up. No nothing. And yes, I had to find another lane. The produce: Fruit has actually gone rotten the next day when I buy it from here. Especially strawberries. I can't count the times I've found mold on produce in the store. The prices: Not worth it. Sometimes you'll find an actual deal but you're better off traveling to Aldi, Target, Costco, literally anywhere but here. They're overpriced and the quality of food doesn't compensate for that. The pharmacy here is THE BOMB! Always so fast, and the people behind the counter are actually pleasant. I couldn't be happier that I switched my prescriptions to this pharmacy. As for the store itself, there's really not much to say. Considering how close this store is to the East End Food Co op, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods, you'd think they'd put up a little competition. They don't really. They have a fair amount of organic and off-the-beaten-path items, but nothing more than any other non-Market District GE. The produce is pretty fresh, and I like that they have a wine/beer section. And, let's talk beer section. Sub par. You know what, tho. Since all the GEs started carrying wine, the beer selection has gone downhill. Best GE for beer, btw, is the Shadyside GE imho. Overall, I'm fine supplementing my co-op shopping here. STORE RUINED MY DINNER PARTY, IS RUINED BY CORPORATE MISMANAGEMENT, NOT THE PEOPLE WHO WORK THERE. Boy, when you look at the Yelp! ratings of all of the Giant Eagle stores over the whole area, you just keep seeing two stars out of five over and over and over again... At this store, at mid-day on a Saturday, the biggest shopping day of the week, when the shelves are most-fully stocked, I went to buy a ham and a package of split peas for a dinner party I was having for my friends. As I wandered through the ridiculous, baseball-stadium-sized wasteland of the store, I couldn't find either one of them. I had to go over to the meat dept. and wait in line for help, which alone makes Giant Eagle more trouble than it's worth. Then the employee and I had to trek and go quite some distance, where we found one, count 'em ONE ham. The stores where I'm used to shopping always have at least five to FIFTEEN different choices in whole hams. I immediately noticed that the G.E.ham is hidden in dark plastic so shoppers can't see how fatty it is or see the hambone, and it was $3/pound, which is twice as expensive as the at-least-okay hams I usually buy at Save-a-Lot, It said "semi-boneless" or some such drivel, which I'd never heard before, and I told the employee, " I have to have a ham with a big hambone, or my dinner won't taste very good", and the employee said, "I don't know what the heck the label is talking about either, but you can feel the hambone through the plastic." I was out of time, and figured G.E.s ham would at least taste better at twice the price, so I got it. When I got it home and took off the sneaky coverup label, sure enough, Giant Eagle's one and only ham was basically one big lump of fat. I then found a tiny bone, which meant that my pea soup wasn't going to have that irreplaceable depth of flavor which you can't get any other way. I spent fifteen minutes trimming away all the excess fat, then cooked the pea soup all day anyway...and threw it out. It was DISGUSTING because the ham is DISGUSTINGLY infused with this weird, sour-but-not-sour chemical taste, so all that work to cook dinner for my friends was RUINED. And this grotesque monstrosity of a store didn't even have any split peas, either. The Trader Joe's-sized Save-a-Lot where I usually shop always stocks two kinds. Giant Eagle stinks. Giant Eagle is going to go out of business because Giant Eagle stinks, and when it does, what are the mismangement leaders going to say? This Giant Eagle just went through a recent face lift renovation. I can't speak to the employees or the cleanliness of the store, though I will say it's ghetto level is about a 5 or 6 out of 10. What I really want to say about this Giant Eagle is that they added a Cafe! Yes, a cafe and if you live in pittsburgh you know what that means! 6 Packs of Beer at a reasonable price. Even though they have a limit to how much beer you can buy per visit it's still the best way to buy 6packs in Pittsburgh. It will cost you a extra buck or two but it's still better than most bottle shops I have ever been to. read more

Horrendous!! I'm used to Wegmans which is in my opinion the best grocery store in the United States. This giant eagle is a complete joke. 95% of their checkout is self checkout. Unbelievable. Happens every time!Spending this kind of money and I'M the cashier. It's very frustrating to have to go to a self check out (they only have 2 lanes open, mid day) with more than 50 items and you need assistance every 5 or 6 items. Why do I keep coming back here? The shopping here is nice enough, but actually the buying of groceries always seems to be an afterthought with this place. They need to overhaul their whole front end service. It's like the land where the customer's time doesn't matter. Today I had a cart full of groceries and was in line when two refrigerator service man stepped in front of me. There was "no excuse us or pardon us " or anything. They just started working on the refrigerator unit as if I wasn't there. I though it might be a quick fix but but they just kept working. After about 5 minutes, I left my groceries there, they can put them back. Even though it is two minutes away I will drive twenty minutes to a different store to shop now. I still think my whole shopping experience will take less time despite my added driving time. My friends and neighbors agree that this is a disappointing aspect about this place. read more

I couldn't write this review without giving a star, but know that if I could have given zero stars I absolutely would have. The cashiers are rude 9 times out of 10. They act like you're bothering them by coming through their line even though, this is their job and it's what they signed up for. Other than the rude cashiers, the store is pretty nice. They usually have everything I need, even though they are a bit pricey. It's a shame that the associates ruin my experience every single time. I've gotten to the point where I don't enjoy grocery shopping anymore. Don't get me wrong- I do LOVE shopping for fresh fish at an open market, or picking out bright, colorful veggies and fruits... it's just the every day grind that's getting to me. I do most of my shopping a Giant Eagle in Edgewood Towne Center because it's convenient. I would rather shop somewhere else, anywhere else, but like I said, it's easy to get to. So, a few gripes: Can you please make sure to keep the bags and ties in the produce section stocked? PLEASE. Every time I go to grab one of those nifty, clear bags, they're gone... Even better, some days the bags are different sizes than they were before. How does THAT happen? I like to be clean when handling produce, can you make sure that your employees use sanitary habits when stocking food? I had the divine pleasure of watching an older produce/stock-person grab his hankie from his pocket, blow his nose, then continue stocking bananas. Ick. I wasn't aware that people still carried around cloth handkerchiefs anymore- please, you must stop! I'm pretty sure said kerchiefs are breeding grounds for the ebola virus. On a high-note- they have installed small containers that house bleached disposable cloths... excellent, now can you please make sure that you keep the shiny, new vessels STOCKED? Lastly, to the lady at the deli counter: I know you hate it when I order large amounts of cut deli-meats, but please stop rolling your eyes at me. Seriously. I know you want me dead, but I would prefer to take my processed meat products and exit your store. read more

This store could use a change in management or training I'm not sure where the problem is. Quite often there is only 1 or 2 cashiers and the rest are self check out which is fine but if there are lines and you have team leaders along with other employees standing in the front of the store waiting to see if you need help bagging that's not very efficient. Security guard confronted me at the door at 10:50 pm like I was scum and an idiot for shopping near the end of his shift/closing time. He wanted to know what I was going to get. I told him some stuff. He told me I had about 3 minutes to get it. I informed him I had about 10 minutes. He told me I would be out of the store by 11. He proceeded to follow me through the store. I sought out the manager who seemed to think this was great customer service. I left my intended purchases and walked out without buying. I haven't been back since. I am a professional. Many times out of advertised items and I don't want to rain check. Most people behind deli counter are nice but sometimes not enough help there. I am very disappointed in the owner of Giant Eagle Edgewood Town Center. I shop at this store every week and spend about $400.00 every month at this store. For the past three years, the store would donate a $25 gift card to my school as a donation for our annual 3rd grade Thanksgiving feast. This is our annual tradition that we feel is so important in building community with our students. This year, I was told the owner turned us down for a donation. How disappointing!! read more

This location is somewhere between the size of the Squirrel Hill location (tiny) and the Waterfront location (huge). It has all the basics, but it's a bit old and neglected. If you have the option, I'd suggest going to the Waterfront location instead, across the Rankin bridge. read more
