Absolute chaos trying to pick up online ordered Easter dinner. One young woman at the pickup table and literally 75 to 100 people in a line going out the door, to pickup their orders. It was so unorganized, people getting irritated and shoppers unable to move around the store because of the winding line out the door. Maybe next year have 2 or 3 people taking names for pickup. Also, I could have just walked in and got my ham and 2 sides right from deli without having to stand in line for 45 minutes. Do better Fresh Market! read more

A kid, young boy, new employee, kicked a metal plate on the rotisserie chicken display in front of me. He missed the first time and kicked it harder right in front of me. It was very very loud on my ears because i was so close. What he should have done was let me pass by first. Then, he should have used this hands like a professional employee. This is a lovely store.. they have beautiful flowers and plants. Lots of produce, they carry meats and poultry. They have foods you take home and warm up, cheeses for your charcuterie plate. They have herbs, spices, other items you would find at a grocery store but it's more up market. You will pay more for things.. I finally pulled the trigger and bought a Christmas pudding and Brandy Butter Hard Sauce and they had the best price. One surprise was finding Home Run Inn Pizza. As someone from Chicago this was awesome. We bought a bunch cause we can't get it in Rochester , NY. It's a smallish food store but we'll curated. They have their own parking lot. Cheers. read more

I adore grocery shopping with a passion. My eyes light up. My step quickens. I truly get a high from browsing grocery store aisles. When I was visiting some family in Mount Lebanon recently - I was craving some of my favorite grocery items. I had heard enchanting stories about this market and I was dying to check it out in person. That being said - I also knew how tempted I would be to buy EVERYTHING in the store. And so - thanks to some helpful advice from my husband - I decided to instead Instacart an order from here. The process couldn't have been smoother. This grocery store literally has everything! I was wowed at how easy it was so locate all of my hard to find grocery items through the Instacart app. The next day each item was located and delivered in the morning - on time. I felt like I had won the lottery - as I met the instacart driver/shopper to retrieve my grocery bounty. If you are staying in the area and have access to a kitchen - definitely either make a visit to this wondrous market - or do like I did - and manifest a magical grocery delivery. Trust. read more

While I'm not a regular shopper at The Fresh Market, it is a part of my shopping rotation. I currently get farm products delivered semi-regularly; so when I do head out to a physical store, I'm searching for those specialty items that don't come to my door. And The Fresh Market is perfect for that. This store is smaller than, say, the Market District up the road. It doesn't feel like it, though! It also arguably has better products than Market District. The meat, deli, and baked goods sections in particular are always well stocked and delightful to browse and shop in. I admittedly wouldn't plan on doing a full grocery run due to the prices of the items here, but it's a perfect supplemental stop that adds to my current deliveries and Aldi trips. I highly recommend checking this store out at least once to see what you think of it! read more

I had a really good experience here today. The staff I interacted with was really helpful and honest. I was looking for ground lamb, and while they didn't have any they did have lamb chops. I asked the butcher if he would grind those for me and he said he'd rather not, since the result would not turn out well and I'd be overpaying for something subpar. I really appreciated his candor and ended up getting the lamb chops whole. Also, a different employee helped me with getting a smaller quantity of a pre-packaged bulk item. She dropped everything she was doing to help me, and I really appreciated that too. The store is beautifully decorated and the location is super convenient. Looking forward to being back! I visited the Fresh Market on a recent evening when I was near the Galleria, planning to pick up some staples for the week. Alas, this mission failed and resulted in a subsequent trip to Giant Eagle Market District due to limited selection and high prices. I picked up some tasty apples, fancy oatmeal (Bob's Rolled Oats are outstanding), and a few other items, but couldn't justify prices on meat or other staples. Also, there were no deli meat prices on display, which is a bit strange. Some of their bulk items (like nuts) are unavailable due to Covid restrictions, which in normal times could set them apart from some of their competition. While the Fresh Market is a very clean store and the employees I interacted with were very friendly, I don't plan on returning when there are alternatives like Trader Joe's or Aldi that have similar selection with better prices and (likely) equal quality, let alone larger stores like Market District or Whole Foods that clobber the Fresh Market on selection. read more

I was shopping at the store in Mt. Lebanon and when I was checking out I was surprised to learn that they were now charging for bags. As I did not have any bags with me, my options were to pay $0.05 for a plastic bag and $0.20 for a paper bag. When I called the home office to complain that they were sacrificing the environment for profit and creating the wrong incentives, they told me that this is their new policy and I could simply bring my own bags next time. Yes, I understand that everyone should bring their reusable bags when they shop but how many people actually don't do that and for these customers, they are incentivized to buy plastic. One solution is to remove the plastic bag option completely and offer paper bags at some price point per bag on orders less than $100.00 or some threshold number they could model. This, too, was rejected outright in favor of some canned corporate response that was clearly read off of a card. So, I ask all of you bleeding heart environmentalists living in Mt. Lebanon, and I know this is a substantial part of this store's customer base, to boycott the store until they change this perverse policy towards a more reasonable and environmentally sound policy. Let's see if you can actually adjust your shopping habits to align with your moral compass. Thank you. read more

Don't buy bakery products! Turnovers are very chewy as if they were microwaved. Muffins only have the flavoring on the top cap. I had the pistachio and they were only on the cap. What a ripoff. I bought blueberry scones, and once again - all six blueberry pieces were only on the outside. These are like buying a shiny new sports car and find that it has a puny 4 cylinder 100 HP engine. Parking and exiting will be an issue. But a nice addition to the grocery stores in the area. Lots of organic and fresh produce. Pricing seems to be on par or in some cases lower the some of the competition. The deli and prepared foods looked great. There was a salad bar, bulk candy and much more. Picked up some seafood and produce. Looking forward to coming back. There was someone BBQing and a small outdoor seating area to eat. You could smell the baked bread and fresh coffee. The place is well presented enough, but the selection is not there and prices are not compelling. For vegan options it's pretty poor going. They should rename this store, "FANCY FEAST" I decided to peruse this mid sized fancy market by South Hills Village mall. It an upscale beautifully decorated store with all the fixins and departments and an outside seating area. The prices are high similar to Giant Eagle and it's of course it's fancy. I decided to try some of their bakery items like a cannoli with chocolate chips and a strawberry pillow cream puff with custard and powdered sugar. IT WAS SCRUMPTIOUS! I really wanted to like this place since it's so close to our house. Visited last night after work to get something for dinner and the guy working the deli seemed angry and put off that he had to wait on me. The one thing that I always enjoyed from there was the $13/pound chicken salad. Second bite in I almost cracked my tooth on the large bone that I was lucky enough to get. This place is awesome!!! The diversity of products and selection is amazing! I use to be all about Whole Foods, but after being here today, boy have I changed my mind! The interior is beautiful and the employees are super pleasant! It has more of an upscale feel, yet very relaxed too. I like it, because you literally do not feel like you are in a grocery store. You feel more like you are in a street food market or something. I feel like other grocery chains have tried to emulate this, however, The Fresh Market has mastered it! The baked goods and meats not only look gorgeous but the taste and freshness is out of this world!!! The other day I got the salted caramel cookies, unbelievable. They tasted super fresh and were so thin and buttery. All of their pies looked amazing. So much so that I wished I had an upcoming dinner party so I could take one! I do not venture out deep into the South Hills that much. But when I do, I notice The Fresh Market, and finally stopped in. The set up of the market is pretty cute. It reminds of me of, Trader Joe's meets Whole Foods, and gives birth to Market District with higher prices. Now, don't get me wrong, I did find a couple of interesting items. I bought some frozen ravioli....BORING! But what was exciting, the buy one get one free breads. I bought the Banana bread and Coconut Pineapple. It was TOTES delicious, and even my co workers enjoyed it when I brought it in to work. This is not a place that I would frequent. One, because of the distance from my home....and 2, there are many products they sell that I can get elsewhere...and is the same name brand/price. read more

I give it 4 stars because it has some unique items (spices, condiments, non-toxic cleaning products) that are worth stopping in for. They also have pork roll, which as a Jersey girl, I appreciate. The prices for some things are a bit high. Otherwise, most of the stuff (bakery, seafood bar) seems to be shipped in and not prepared fresh there. I kind of stumbled upon it and have to say I wI'll no longer buy produce anywhere else! It, and frankly anything else I have purchased there, has been outstanding! It does cost a little more, but I got so tired of buying produce at Giant Eagle only to find onions black in the middle as well as many other items. I come here often and find their array of products reasonably priced, especially during their sales. They do a fairly good job of keeping the store clean although the bathroom can sometimes use the help but it could be that it's a little out dated. I would have given them five stars if it wasn't because they run out of their BOGO items rather quickly on the day of the sale and the UTC store is the only one around for miles. I would really love it if they had a store south of Sarasota so I wouldn't have to drive as far as I do to shop here. In my head this was a really comical experience. So I walk in on a weekday morning looking all rough. No make-up, hair frizzy, wearing an old sweatshirt. Real classy like. As soon as I entered in I heard classical music playing. For a hot second I thought they played this music every time someone walks in. Then I realized they just play it throughout the whole store. It makes so much sense that Classical music playing when you pick out your $10.99 nuts. Like literally, there's a wall full of nuts. Any kind of nut you want, you can have. As you can imagine, it's super neat and everything is nestled in it's right place. Things did look fresh, but it comes at a high cost. I picked out marinated filet mignon and pork chops. I won't tell you how much they cost. But I will say that filet was darn good. The pork chops were just okay. If you're looking for brand names, you probably won't find it here. Even something as "fancy" as almond milk is high end brands I've never heard of. Almond Breeze has no place here apparently. I believe it looked like they carried their own brand. I will admit I bought a pumpkin bread mix from their brand that turned out pretty good. I won't repeat myself...okay, I will, it was expensive as well. Also, if you're into spices it seems like they have every type of usual and unusual ones. Including seasonings and rubs. I would imagine this would be amazing for someone who likes to cook or add a little spice to their life. But it just comes down to one thing. Can you tell what it is? Money. I felt poor shopping here. One, because I looked a little ragged and two, because my total was like a shopping trip for two weeks at Aldi. MAYBE even three. I really like this place, just wish it was closer! While very similar to a Giant Eagle Market District or Whole Foods, The Fresh Market is something fresh and unique. Yes it's expensive but, so is Giant Eagle Market District and Whole Foods. While it competes with both Market District and Whole Foods you won't find everything you're looking for all the time as it is somewhat smaller then it's two main competitors. Others have complained about parking which I don't get. If you want to talk about crappy parking then look no further than the Trader Joe's, Whole Foods or Giant Eagle Market District parking lots in East Liberty. Now those are parking nightmares! The meat department has just about anything you could ever want or need. There is also a great selection of organic products. There's even a prepared food section with different flavors of wings, salads, sandwiches just to name a few. The other star of the show is the bakery. Lots of different breads, cakes, pies, cookies and so much more. Some of the prices were cheaper here than at Whole Foods or the Market District and some weren't. I would say get your everyday items at ALDI, Bottom Dollar or Shop n' Save and get your specialty items here if you can't find them cheaper at Giant Eagle Market District or Whole Foods. Defiantly worth stopping if you're ever in the area. All the employees I came in contact with were extremely pleasant and helpful. I was really excited to see what this place would be about when I passed by it every other day as it was being constructed. I went opening day even though I knew it was going to be a scene. Whoever approved this site made a huge mistake as the parking is entirely inadequate and the location is a challenge to exit. There were better choices in the area for this location and I think they will suffer especially after the Wegman's and Whole Foods open in the area. I really appreciated the quality of the food within. They have a huge selection of organic groceries. The other day I even bought a pint of organic figs. This is the first time I have ever seen them and they were delicious. The prepared foods look good. I tried a chicken wing and it was ok. The dry rub ribs were ok too. Not great. I do like the salad bar, although, I tried a prepared corn salad and it wasn't good. The corn was tough among other problems with the dish. I did try an outstanding pork sandwich with brie on a housemade roll. I am so glad to have another option outside Giant Eagle. read more

The Fresh Market, that North Carolina import, has arrived to a new locale, at the intersection of Washington Road (Route 19) and Connor Road in Mount Lebanon. It's a tricky location, not just because traffic backs up here due to the abundance of businesses that are packed onto this stretch of road, but because The Giant Eagle Market District and Trader Joe's are both right up the street. When my husband and I arrived this morning at 9:45, the parking lot was, well...a parking lot, with a waiting line out into the road to get in. Not surprising, given that it was opening day. The parking lot is also smallish for a business this size. Whenever I go to a new grocer the first thing I look for is organic anything, but produce in particular. The Fresh Market has a decent variety of organic produce, so I was happy about that. I did some comparing of my register receipts after arriving back home, and found that, overall, Market District's produce is cheaper. I plan on bringing in my Fresh Market receipt to the Market District next time I'm there and comparing other items that I buy, as there wasn't much crossover of items between the two receipts today. An update of this review will be in order then. The aisles are a little tight here, more like a Trader Joe's in feel than a larger market. They have a lovely coffee selection, with their own store brand beans available alongside the upscale brands like intelligentsia. I chose their decaf New Orleans French Roast blend, as I was assured by a long time employee of corporate that all of their decaf coffees are Swiss water process. Again, I may look into that myself, as their decafs are not labeled as such, and I usually find that the extra cost of decaffeinating coffee this way is advertised somewhere on the label. It's a little like offering organic anything and then not bothering to let people know. It was just before lunch when we shopped, so we took advantage of the nice selection of freshly made sandwiches. I got the North Carolina style smoked pork barbecue sandwich topped with slaw, and hubby got the roasted pork sandwich with cranberry slaw. We took them home to eat them, as they don't offer seating here, and they were both very good, although the slaw on mine was more the mild, creamy style you find in New England, so didn't scream North Carolina barbecue to me. Still, I will be returning here for lunch often. The rotisserie and fried chicken both looked great, as did the roast pork, and they have a small but wonderful looking salad bar and some nice looking prepared foods at the deli counter. We were able to sample a chicken wing and a smoked rib, as they were going sample crazy on opening day, and everything I tried was delicious, so the prepared food here is way better than what you can get at The Market District. The cheese selection was small here, but the bakery is substantial. They have a nice selection of natural beauty products, like Burt's Bees, Jason's and Desert Essence, and the pantry aisles are stocked with higher end items as well as their own store brand. The bulk section was fairly large, but didn't offer much in the way of organic items. When I asked for organic rolled oats they only had packages of Bob's Red Mill, which is way more expensive than buying it in bulk, even at a small natural foods store like Sunnybridge, near me. So I don't think I would do all of my shopping here, but I will most definitely be returning for their prepared foods form the deli section, and will pick up odds and ends. read more

This is my absolute favorite place to grocery shop, so glad we found this wonderful gem. They have amazing produce and their pre-made deli and bakery areas are full of tasty, well made entries and desserts. They play relaxing classical music and everything is clean, well stocked and the employees are always helpful. They are really into no GMO, organic products and I find their selection superior to Trader Joes. Their prices are comparable to Giant Eagle or cheaper and their produce is way better. I went in for holiday shopping, got two text message alerts from my bank that the same amount was withdrawn. At first I figured it was one of those pending charges that would drop. Nope, both cleared my account with two completely different POS authorizations codes. How this happened, I don't know. Mistakes do occur. The bank says it is on the store's end. However, when I contact them, I didn't hear back. I reach out again and they send me a snooty email as if I am lying. Really? What happened to 'We are so sorry this has happened"? Starbucks double charged me once and couldn't do enough to make it right and I assure you, the amount at Starbucks was far less than TFM. read more

With its grand opening another high end market makes its way into Pittsburgh. Not for families on a budget, they do have daily specials, 2.99 Tuesday sales and six dollar Saturday sales. Fresh produce section, a bit more costly than GE, much better selection though. Like Whole Food, big prepared food section, everything looked well prepared and delicious. Huge meat and cheese department too. If you can stick to just sale items you can stay on your budget, I still favor Trader Joe's and Market District. Stopped in on the way to a get together yesterday to pick up salad fixings, pretty cool store. Was able to find a pre fab bottle of vinaigrette dressing with JUST what I would throw together at home, with the cost of convenience. I chose a mix of baby greens, an orange and a yellow bell pepper, sliced almonds, really good Parmesan, and salted roasted sunflower seeds. The cashier was nice, gave me a calendar of specials. Everyone loved my salad! We killed the container of fruit salad that had black blue and raspberries kiwi pineapple and melons, in January, for a fair price. read more
