This was my second time going into a Giant Food store. The ambiance was clean and the items were well organized in the store. I surprisingly found bottles of Apple sake wine that I have been looking for a year ever since I had it at a Japanese restaurant in Tennessee. I was happy and surprised. Service was cordial and helpful there. I saw a bottle of Angel Ink Pinot Noir and wished I had bought it. I've been to this Giant a few times and I think it's pretty decent. They've always had everything that I've been looking for, and whenever I needed help finding something like today, someone has always been glad to help. Ive purchased a lot of just regular grocery things here including fruits, canned goods, meat products like steak, and more often than not, the deli. The bakery is pretty robust as well, and I've enjoyed their freshly baked donuts and muffins on occasion. The store also seems more modern compared with other stores, and I'm not sure if they recently did a remodel. In terms of grocery stores, this one is as good as it gets read more

This is a huge one. Cannot believe the size of this location. Last night I was in the area, and this is a nice store. Very clean and an amazing selection. Parking is quite unique, so please be careful. Lots of aggressive drivers. Giant usually is cheaper than Safeway. I was able to find some deals on Greek yogurts. That was appreciated. Good employees here, and everything was well stocked. This works decently, and checkout was a cinch! read more

I wouldn't normally review a grocery store on here, but figure maybe the issue will get some attention if it is brought up on Yelp. This was normally a decent grocery. Nothing special, but prices were generally better than the other grocery in the shopping center, and the shopping experience was far, far better than that overpriced, overcrowded NY-based grocery a couple miles away. This Winter, during several but not all visits, I noticed a distinct smell of sewage towards the back of the store. It was off-putting, but I still did my regular grocery shopping there. I went in this weekend and the smell was so strong, it was detectable just as you entered the produce section. The stench was strongest at the back of the store, but was so strong that the smell extended about 3/4 down the aisles towards the registers. The smell this weekend wasn't just a sewage/dumpster-y sort of smell. It was a strong urine-smell. Not ammonia or some cleaning agent, but a very sharp, foul, nauseating, and overpowering stench that smelled exactly like a very full cat litter box that hasn't been scooped for days. I left and drove several miles to Food Lion, where I'll be doing my grocery shopping from now on. Please fix this issue and scrub the entire place. read more

I was checking out the cashier single bagged all my items and while she was doing it one of the bags ripped and she didn't rebag or try to address it. Another person got in line and she stopped bagging my items and started ringing their stuff up and left me to bag my remaining groceries. Food selection is fair. Customer service is inconsistent. read more

My family and I were visiting from out of town and needed some essentials for the road trip back home. Giant Food was down the road from where we were staying so we came on in. I think we were there around 8:30 pm or so on a weeknight, so it was not busy at all. Even at the end of the day, I was impressed at how clean everything looked. It was giving me some Winn-Dixie vibes... and that's not a bad thing! The newly-renovated WD's are pretty nice. We didn't stay long, but we picked up some fruits (everything looked fresh), some granola bars and sparkling water. I discovered the brand Waterloo here and now I am thoroughly obsessed. The lady who checked us out was very nice and we had a good little conversation. Big props to Giant Food for making my out of town grocery store experience a good one! read more

11JAN2023: tried one last time because it's the only place I know that rents carpet cleaners. The thing was full of dirt and reeked of mildew. Within the first three passes my entire apartment smelled of mildew. Not a refund insight. Please for your own health do not visit the store. 23DEC2022: you're officially cut all ties with giant because of the store. Month after month of calling ahead asking if my daughters prescription I've heard for pickup yes, I want to come to the store and be told they couldn't find it or that need to walk around and it'll be ready in 15 minutes. Make matters worse normally, 6 of the last seven times, we were told "the prescription is for 30 pills however we only have 21 so either you can take this medication that your daughter needs and only have 21 pills or wait for us to order more". Pretty sure the entire store should be shut down and each employee in the pharmacy should have their licenses taken. Edit: Train your MANAGERS how to do scan it audits on your mobile app. Wasted over an hour on a $300+ shopping trip. Another 20 minutes while the genius in charge couldn't figure out what Giant even had an app, and then said sorry nothing we can do. Been using this app for years, today your bench warmer has me going to Wegmans where I've yet to have issues with their app. Interior products but superior service. Further edit: Wegmans had the same stuff, plus name brand since their shelves weren't empty the day before Thanksgiving, for less than half the price at Giant. Clearly when making their display cupcakes they forgot the sugar and tripled down on the salt. It was the most sour and salty piece of food I've had in my life. Too boot the person at the counter was clearly bothered by my standing there. No pictures of the cupcakes because I couldn't have thrown them away fast enough. Previously had a mini cookie cake for Valentine's day and it was extremely soggy. They had to be new as they were not there the day before. Challah is just meh, happy to have it there but flavor isn't great. Instead of going to the bakery just go down a few isles and make it yourself....or just don't eat. read more

I don't think I've ever had so much fun grocery shopping. Seriously. It was so worth the trip out here. Getting to use the little scanner to scan our groceries as we went was awesome. Seriously. So awesome. I loved it. It was fun and we could keep track of how much we were spending as we shopped. Why does everyone not do this? It was so cool. And it made checkout a breeze. Loved it! And, on top of the scanning awesomeness, this is a nice, pretty, clean, huge store. It's shiny and new and full of good finds. The produce was pretty good and the shelves were well-stocked. We just might make this our regular grocery store (despite the distance). read more

This Giant is located in a very busy shopping plaza, at the corner of South Van Dorn Street and Kingstowne Boulevard. The sales floor aesthetic is the best I have seen for any grocery store in the general area. The floor is clean and boxes of stock are not strewn about. The only problem this reviewer discovered is in the parking lot in front of the store. There are no stalls for customers to park their grocery carts in. So, be careful when you pick a parking space because you may find an empty grocery cart. read more

This Giant is my go-to grocery store of all time! The store is clean, stock is plentiful, and the food is fresh! The layout is organized which makes getting everything on the grocery list quick and convenient. Cashier's are friendly, and the bakery team are pleasant to work with. Got kicked out five minutes after the closing hours during Christmas while walking through the store by the manager David Shepherd I understand that people want to spend time with their families during holidays but telling people to "take a hike" after a heated exchange of words while refusing to let a customer finish shopping literally five minutes after closing while still in the store is extremely unprofessional. I suggest visiting the Safeway or Walmart close by to avoid potential bad customer service by a manager. read more

I went this morning to purchase balloons for my coworkers farewell party. The manager stated someone would be right with me. No one returned. I stood at the counter for 30 minutes before grabbing my food items for purchase. It would've been respectful (customer service) to say "I'm sorry, we don't have anyone to assist you at this time." This place wasn't lying. Their food is freaking huge, like a Giant. The lobsters are like 50 lbs, the broccoli is about the size of a bush, the people that work there look like they're on steroids. They only sell beer in kegs, or cans the SIZE OF KEGS. The shopping carts are about the size of a Ford F-150 and their discount membership cards are the size of poster boards, impossible to keep in the wallet. Only people I see having a problem with this are liberals, they hate food thats GMO'd. And its pretty obvious that everything here is GMO to achieve their insanely huge products. read more

If I could say 0 stars I would. Same situation with me at the balloon counter. The manager made me wait on an assistant for 30 min. After allowing the assistant to help me the manager watched from the customer service counter. After watching me threw out the store while a friend and I collect items for my daughter's graduation, she rushes to my check out counter. It was after hours so only the self check out was open. Right before everyone, she asks to see my slip for the balloon purchase and before I could give it to her, she starts saying that the lady didn't charge me for all my balloons and she didn't charge me correctly for the ones that she did put on the slip. I had to ask her to step aside and allow me to finish ringing up my food items before continuing to rumble threw my items and force me to find the slip. I don't steal, I don't have a reason for that! I don't appreciate being treated as such! After that experience I said I would never go back. After opening a pack of Turkey wings that I just purchased, I discovered that the ones in the bottom were bad. I had to go back. Upon exchanging the item, I asked for the manager hoping to report the incident with the balloons. But she walks up and says she is the manager. I shared my feelings of how I was treated and she just denied the entire thing. She said she didn't remember!! A customer was headed out as I was walking to my car and advised me to make a review and even call corporate, bc they too have experienced her inability to relate to a great customer. I will never shop at this Giant again. Hell they really make it bad for any Giant. Chick-fil-A and Target should sell there customer service manuals and training for Giant employees. You need help! Well, it's time to review my grocery store. It's a very good neighborhood Giant and it's much, much nicer than other Giant's in the area. The store is well planned and offers a very wide variety of products. When you walk in there is a Starbucks on your left - the stores buggies even have a cup holder so you can enjoy your latte while shopping. The produce section is kept up very well as is the meats. They don't have a fabulous selection like a Harris Teeter or a Whole Foods, but what they have is great. Good bakery and a nice "health" section with all the shampoos, body wash and toothpaste that you would need. This Giant has an organic aisle too, which is the trend I guess. This Giant always seems to have everything well stocked and great staff. I would prefer this to the Safeway and Shopper's in the area that seem to be too expensive and gross (respectively). read more

This is our go to local grocery store. Parking is not that bad as previous comments make it out to be. The layout and crowds are not bad. Selection is pretty darn good, price competitive. Deli counter is always friendly giving samples. Self-Check Out is a nice option. Vegetables and Fruits always look fresh. They have a huge rack of gift cards! read more

We moved up from Florida just last week, and I have been on a quest to find a grocery store that resemebles my beloved Southern staple, Publix - basically, a place with great variety, friendly service and good prices....and I think I found it! Sure, some items can be found at lower prices elsewhere (my husband and I noted the high price of Silk soymilk, for one) but it's almost worth it when no one is running you down in the aisles or you are having to wait 10-15 minutes in line for a cashier. The self-check-out is fun and I like seeing my savings (both same day, and year-in-review) printed right on the receipt. One of the crown gems that we've also discovered is the "we baked too much" section in which you can purchase baked items such as cakes, breads, muffins and even pies and cookies for significant savings of 50 cents, $1 or even $2 off! I bought a four pack of muffins and froze them until we were ready to eat them and they were super fresh and yummy. read more

This is a large, clean and newer Giant with good produce. It is a little weak in the meat department and there is no butcher from whom to make requests. The lines at the checkout aren't usually too bad and the employees usually know where to find things. This Giant is the best grocery store in the area because its competition is the super down at the heels Safeway in Rose Hill and the grungy Shoppers down the street is... well, grungy. But the thing that makes this Giant my go-to grocery store is the fact that they are participating in Giant's SCAN IT program. When you enter the store, you pick up a scanner and you scan your own groceries as you go. It's a great way to keep track of how much you're spending and, if you bring your own bags, you can even bag your groceries as you go. It's a huge time saver and you can still use self check out. It sounds silly and like a small thing, but it makes grocery shopping so much easier and more enjoyable. Avoid the Starbucks, though. Prices are insanely inflated and there's a real Starbucks two doors down. read more

Cheapcheap wine! My friend introduced me to Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay, borderline sweet for my taste, but still good. While most places range from $12-14 for this wine, Giant has it on sale for $9.99! Yay! This store is very clean and spacious. There are a lot of self-checkout lanes and they also have some handy devices where you can scan the items in as you go and then pay when you get to the front! read more

Sometimes if I come at the wrong time the selection is poor, and sometimes I look for an item that I know other Giants have (most recently being Thai curry paste) and this one doesn't. And it's pretty annoying that there are no cart holder-ma-jigs in the parking lot so I have to walk it back to the store. This is only a minor annoyance when alone, but if I ever had some kids in tow, a minor annoyance could easily turn into a major inconvenience. Other than that, though, the store is pretty clean and the whether it's the seafood counter guys, a dude sweeping the floor, or the register folks, the staff here are pretty friendly. They also have an aisle dedicated towards natural/organic/specialty foods, a Starbucks in house, and they sell Berger cookies straight from Bmore. YES. read more

This store is nice and big and has lots of self checkout registers. It generally has what I'm looking for, except for Mission Tortilla chips which seem to come and go. Don't use those portable scanner things. They NEVER work. If you need the self checkout, don't do anything that could cause you to need assistance. You won't get any. This review is for the Bakery section. I called in a few weeks ago, requesting a cake to be made with an image printed. The lady that answered my call was very nice and helped me throughout the process. I came in with an image I wanted to be on the cake. And wrote down the time and date of when I wanted to be picked up. Everything was on time. The cake tasted great. But who ever piped the cake wasnt steady. It was sort of slanted. Some of the ink didn't blend in well but it's alright. It was just a small 7x10 cake. overall was $20. i called other bakeries and their prices were $40+ for the same service Giant Bakery offered. My favorite of all of the local Giants! They have a Starbucks inside the store, which is usually a first stop for me when starting grocery shopping (and their shopping carts have a cup holder, which makes things very easy!) They have excellent product selection, wide aisles, and seem to manage NOT to be stocking when you are trying to shop. I like to use the self-checkout and there is a wonderful woman who helps with the bagging and any other items that may arise. She is always so pleasant and helpful that it makes it more likely that I would use this Giant than any other. My only pet peeve is that they don't have the little "cart houses" where you can put your cart in the parking lot. This may be something the landlord won't allow them to do. So, you need to take your cart back up to the front of the store. read more

This review is for the bakery dept. I was looking for a type of "cupcake cake" for my daughter's 4th birthday and priced a couple other places but Brenda at Giant was the best. I had a vision in mind of cupcakes shaped like a 4, with a little floral bordering and flair around it on the board. Most traditional "cupcake cakes" are just shaped like a sheet cake and you can pull them away so I really appreciated Brenda's care and attention to my explaining exactly what I wanted and her executing that vision. She even sketched out for me how she would design and decorate it. Safeway wanted me to buy a dozen cupcakes and then pay for a board and wanted me to design it myself?? Ghetto. Brenda was very helpful and used some of her own creative aesthetic to add more flair to the cupcakes (like glitter sprinkles!). The whole cake was around $24 for 20-22 cupcakes. I'm attaching the picture. I definitley plan to come here again for more creative and interesting birthday cake ideas! read more

This is hands down the worst Giant I have ever shopped at (this is basically based on the produce section). I hope it is just me and I hit it at a bad time (I have only been here once, but from that experience I won't be back). The produce was awful! This is what you walk in to see first. Literally, you walk in to the produce section and it was awful produce! The peppers (especially the pablanos) were all shriveled up and nasty. Out of a basket of jalapenos I found two that were not nasty. I had a really difficult time trying to find produce that didn't look like it should have been tossed days before. I did't go much farther than that so I can't really judge the rest of the store. On a positive note, they did have a nice selection of bread. I try to avoid white bread but a lot of multi-grain breads are dry. They had a nice selection so that was good. read more

What's the masculine for mistress? Whatever it is, that's what this Giant is to me. I think I'm in love. I know that sounds silly, to be in love with a grocery store. But this Giant really is fantastic. From the huge produce section, vast selection of everything, microbrews in the beer section, Wawa-style deli ordering screens, and great big section of hair/beauty/medicine/etc stuff, I enjoy grocery shopping here. Every time I've been in there the staff has been friendly and helpful, which is more than I could say for the little crappy stores I had to deal with in Old Town. But the best part (and I know they have these at other Giants too, but its icing on the cake) is the Scan It thing they've got going on. Basically, as long as you have a Giant card, you can get a little scanner and scan and bag your groceries as you go, saving you from being that guy at the register that takes forever. And they work at the self check out, so all you have to do when you check out is close out your little scanner, scan your coupons, pay, and be on your merry way. No more frustration with the way the cashier is packing your reusable bags, no more waiting to fit all of your stuff on the conveyer belt, you get to do it all yourself. Love it. The only negative - no cart spaces in the parking lot. Since people are lazy, you run the risk of one of those lazy people leaving their cart in the parking space and it possibly hitting your car. Even when you're three spaces from the entrance. But other than that, this Giant is a complete win. read more
