Please don't take this gem away! I drove over 30 minutes to find this hidden gem and it was worth the time. I was able to find almost everything I was looking for. The staff was also very helpful! I was even able to find some of my childhood favorites. They have all of the local favorites that us DMVers grew up on, including 2 Liter Rock Creek sodas in various flavors, the big huge donuts (where you only need one), the frozen shrimp in the little freezer right outside of the deli, and a nice selection of international foods. Still a great grocery store that stocks items not found everywhere. Great staff. Some prices are low, while others arent.

I normally do my grocery shopping at Safeway, but occasionally come to Shoppers if it is particularly convenient when I am out and about on errands. Shoppers is a large store with good inventory, especially with pet snacks for my Siamese cats. Shoppers also has a great Latino food section as well as an onsite bakery. Prices seem in-line with the GIants and Safeways in the area. But I still have to gasp at $5 for a li'l box of Cheeze-its. I'm not gonna beat around the bush, Shoppers is in a rather grotty area with shady characters often lingering around the entrances. Life in the Hybla Valley. When I was in Shoppers yesterday, I was surprised and disappointed that all they had were large shopping carts. No hand baskets or mini-carts were available. A clerk confirmed my observation. I didn't ask the clerk where the hand baskets had wandered off to, but I have a sneaking suspicion that their clientele had walked off the premises with them. But why doesn't Shoppers replace the baskets? read more

This Shopper's is pretty convenient, being close by. The store has the basics, and the prices are decent. The only downside is the weird smell when you walk in--kinda off-putting, but not enough to keep me from shopping there. Overall, it gets the job done, but don't expect anything special. read more

I used to have a Shoppers super close to me, and was distraught when they closed because I loved their cronuts and apple fritters. So when I was in the Alexandria area, I made sure to stop by this Shoppers. I ended up getting a half dozen cronuts, one of them being a chocolate glazed cronut. They were as good as I remembered them. But I do think that they could be a little flakier, and they could maybe have a little more glaze on them. But they were still very tasty. I love SFW. The locations aren't nearby anymore. The "traditions" while at Shoppers is having a freshly made donut and getting Birch Beer. My family loves this soda. We save it for celebrations. The produce area has fresh items. The deli area was meticulously clean. Many items are not competitively priced. If you want sale prices, you will have to download the app. I don't visit enough to need coupons. I copied my barcode incase I return. That way I can remove the app. Bonus points for cream filled donuts & nice enoloyees. read more

The only answer for this store is to go to business and let it be replaced with something good like an Amazon Fresh. As of September 2025 they have raised the prices yet again on everything across the store / making them almost double the cost of buying these same goods from Amazon. There are good people that work in the store, but they have been completely abandoned by a company that is on its last legs just trying to milk whatever they can out of the community before they close their doors. - I urge everybody to stop shopping here so that they will finally go out of business ASAP. read more

I missed the Cronuts after my local shoppers closed and made the 30 minute trip to get them from another location. It's one of the best donuts in the area. We went a little later in the day so they probably tasted fresher earlier but they are flakey chewy and nicely glazed. It still isn't as good as Randy's out in California. It's similar to Texas donuts Cronuts but a little better. read more

Weekend hunt for a flaky cronut and Shoppers Collossal Donuts! The Collossal Donut is not looking so might these days. But it's still good and we happily make the trek to Alexandria to see what's on the bakery shelf at the last remaining Shoppers in Northern Virginia. Ok, this is not my favorite Shoppers, and I think that has more to do with the layout more than anything else. Usually, I can go right to the deli counter and find my delicious chicken and ham salad, but this Shoppers had them hidden so well that my experience was more scavenger hunt than shopping. Riding along with my friends on his instacart deliveries this was the second Safeway in Virginia I went to tonight. It severely dwindled in comparison to the King Street location. It's still a grocery store... they had food... it was edible... and even some sales were steeper. Bathrooms aren't great and the store could use an update, featuring wider aisles. read more

The store itself is pretty outdated - they've added self checkout, but from what it looks like I don't think there's been any other changes since it was built. There are no employees readily available like you would see at a Safeway, for example. If you want to get toiletries or something similar it's blockaded for some reason? Shoppers, at least at this location, is adequate. It's big and the prices are better than many other of the grocery chain stores there in the Alexandria/Ft Belvoir part of Richmond Highway. So for the price it's good. Pluses: - Prices are good and generally are better on many items than Safeway and Giant. - Donuts are HUGE - Floral prices are great - They have a large international food section - Fruits and Veggies were fresh the times I have needed them Minus: - Staffing. other than at the register or behind the bakery counters I had trouble finding someone to ask a question to. - Customer service counter rep was surley, angry even. - Many homeless folks panhandling in the parking lot. I guess you come for the lower prices and understand that the issues you get are just part of what this Shoppers is at the moment. I love this Shoppers. They closed the one in Prince William County and the Lorton location is awkward to get to but since I work in Arlington County this is my go to spot. This location is always clean and they added a Caribou coffee kiosk. Funny cause there is a Dunkin Donuts in the same shopping center as well as Starbucks, but those colossal doughnuts are such a bargain that when I am buying breakfast for the office I go to Shoppers. If you time it right and go around 7 you can get them while they are still warm fresh out of the oven and just placed in the display cabinet. Also I like the Delhi selection here as well. Meats...... not so much......I go to Lidl for their meat selection. Shoppers is in my top 3 only after Lidl and Aldi's! read more

The customer service was excellent and there was a very kind older gentleman who put his heart into keeping the shelves organized and clear of clutter. Obviously go to Giant or Safeway nearby instead of this place if you can. However, I do go because it is the closest to my house when I need some chips or beer or whatever, they can't mess that up. The workers aren't so bad either, friendly service and helpful if you ask. They claim to be cheaper than other grocery stores and even have a cart of food and compare the prices to Giant when you walk in (I believe all Shoppers do this). This may be true that everything is slightly cheaper, but nothing is ever really on sale except for a few cents. If you want cereal but are not sold on one brand but open to all kinds of good cereal you can always find a bunch on half off sale at Safeway, but never here at Shoppers. Lots of other examples similar to that. read more

While in the produce section, I observed a produce worker pick up loose green beans (about 20) that were spilled on the filthy floor, and put them back in the produce bin pile. This is a good place to get some grocery shopping on! They have a wider selection of items compared to the Giant right next to my house and the staff is a lot friendlier. My bill overall always ends up cheaper here than at the "other guys". Nothing ever goes on sale but part of the draw is, the don't jack prices up, just to make you feel like you're getting a deal. The price you see is the price you get. Plus, they sell Lebanon bologna which I haven't seen at Giant or Safeway. ...And the doughnuts are pretty delicious. read more

It's nice to shop at a grocery store that has generous aisle space. The grocery cart and I never have to squeeze in between another customer and a stocked shelf. The produce is sensibly priced. The meat case is fine. There is an outstanding presence of generic pantry and household staples prominently displayed. The dairy and frozen food cases are always well stocked. The Pharmacy associates are the bomb dot com. They are very informative an knowledgable. Best thing is they remember my name and call to check on me. Im not sickly nor do I take many meds. The store is huge, but a long way from wholefoods. Its between an Aldi and Giant. Most Shoppers are ghetto, this one is a few steps above. The salad bar, has frozen veggies like they keep them over night in the freezer. I will pass on that. The prices are moderate, some deals, but I rather Wally World or Wholefoods. read more

I definitely find a cost savings at this chain. I particularly like this store because it is never crowded, there are rarely lines, and they sell Coke Life. They also sell Iams wet cat food and a few other items I do not like to be without. The store is clean, well organized and I like finishing out my Mount Vernon Plaza run by cruising through to pick up perishables. Speaking of, the produce is great. Not a ton of organic options at this location, but there are other places I go to for those items anyway. On that note, there aren't a lot of "gourmet" or "artisan" options here either. This is just your run of the mill, good 'ole suped up piggly-wiggly hawking mostly P&G or GM goods, with a healthy dose of Goya thrown in for good measure. read more

Man, I'm glad I didn't read the reviews before coming here! I popped in here mother's day weekend after dropping the dogs off to get groomed at the Petsmart in the same plaza. I wanted to try these "colossal donuts" I had heard about. They had a wide selection of donuts, and they were putting out hot fresh ones while I was browsing. The store is laid out kind of odd, and the prices weren't actually any cheaper than Giant or Safeway on the various items I was there to purchase. The real kicker was the lack of cashiers, and a single checkout lane full of people and their groceries. Donuts were DELICIOUS though! Moist, sweet, and jumbo size. Wow. read more

My doctor called a prescription in and I called to confirm for pick up I did this back and forth for 3 days. I was dealing with the pharmacist manager!!! On the third day, I spoke with someone else...and low and behold I am not crazy and neither is my nurse, the prescription had been called in 3 DAYS PRIOR. He was arrogant and no help. I will no longer fill my prescriptions at Shoppers, moving across the street to Walgreens. It's a shame because I do shop here for groceries. read more

I have been shopping at Shoppers Food for years but lately it has gone down hill. The produce section is the worst. It's shameful to have to dig though a pile of old potatoes, onions or other produce hoping of finding fresh items. I know they say they save us money, but that doesn't mean it's cool to provide rotten food for what we pay. I will spend a few extra pennies at Giant's and Safeway from now on. read more
