Decided to come here for the first time since it's so close to my apartment. I like the concept of a personal grocery store. Produce smelled fresh, and they had a decent variety of snacks and beverages to choose from (including all different types of candies and gummies--some hard to find). It was somewhat busy for a Tuesday afternoon but good to know other people were buying their groceries here. I was definitely not a fan of their prices. Absurdly high so I would reconsider possibly elsewhere for similar items. read more

Yes, the prices are quite high here. The same items cost less elsewhere. Frankly, I'm not sure how they survive. I never see customers buying many items. It is a lovely store; the atmosphere is quite unique. I go to the store because the one in Vienna closed. On Thursdays they now have a seven dollar meal. I'm sure all the food is pre-prepared, but maybe they have to mix it at the store. The Vienna store food was much better. This store has been disappointing. I'm not sure I will continue going even for the special on Thursdays. They have a brownie cookie that is absolutely fabulous! Zap it four or 5 to 7 seconds in the microwave before you eat it and you will love it. The raspberry filled cookies are very sweet. If you are a coffee drinker I'm told they go well with coffee. Their oatmeal cookies are pretty good. All these cookies freeze well. read more

The Fresh Market is everywhere in the South, and when I moved here I really missed it. One day I happened to drive past one and was pleasantly surprised to find there are two locations in Northern Virginia. I usually shop here for the produce, baked goods, and a few specific canned beverages. While the deli's hot and cold offerings--and the customer service--aren't quite as strong as what I was used to in Tennessee and Florida, I still enjoy coming for the change of scenery and the variety you don't always find at regular grocery stores or even Whole Foods. read more

We really wanted to buy some cakes at the Bakery in the Alexandria Store on King street. No one was behind the counter, the butcher counter folks were either on their phone or chatting and studiously avoided us. Went to the cheese counter to ask if anyone could assist us and we were told to ask at the Bakery Counter. When I said that there was no one there, they simpered and ignored me. After 5 minutes, with staff walking past us and deliberately ignoring us. Went somewhere else. read more

I have had 2 very disturbing bad experiences with sales people. One in the deli section (woman w/scarf on her head) and one loud man in the meat Dept. They had rude personalities. I go to this market regularly and I know finding good employees is a hardship these days and managers hold back in talking to the employees even if you complain. read more

Here's the deal . . . When you charge the prices The Fresh Market charges, you're going to be held to a certain standard. The store itself is beautifully laid out and clean with lots of offerings. Staff were fine. But the food? Awful. I bought three packages of sushi. The rice was cooked to mush. I threw away the last package it was so bad. The broccoli salad I got tasted slimy. That's the only word I have for it. The Greek pizza was fine. Nothing special, but it was fine. Too many places in Alexandria to shop to give my money to them. read more

The seafood selection leaves much to be desired. The shrimp that they do have is very small as are the scallops. The sushi is way over priced as well! I'll be honest... the first time I was exposed to a Fresh Market in my life was when I would annually go down to my friend's house in Richmond and he lived a block from one and we'd get dinner (garlic bread!) from there. Any time I would go to Richmond, I'd have to go to Fresh Market. Fast forward a few years and I move to Alexandria, and much to my delight, I LIVE SO CLOSE TO A FRESH MARKET! Let be honest again... I like it better than Whole Foods. Know what gets me is every week they have a different dinner meal deal for $20. Four dinners (and sometimes more depending on the meal) for $20. I look forward to seeing what they will have each week. Get the garlic bread. It's some good stuff. There should be more Fresh Markets in the world. Oh and I almost forgot -- I once bought some Prosciutto here and when I got home I realized there was like a tear in the package and some of the prosciutto was MOLDY and gross. I actually ended up calling them before I went to return it just to vent like ahhhhh!! because it was something I needed in a timely matter and didn't have time to go back to the store. I made a special quick trip and they refunded me and gave me a replacement for free. So that was a nice customer service experience there that I appreciate. read more

Really cute store with some one of a find items. The problem is that there just wasn't much to purchase. Even though the store looked nice, many shelves were empty, and there were a lot of spills on the floor that were awaiting clean up. Check out was strange. Like a mixture of Trader Joe's and wegmans. I had no idea I had The Fresh Market so close to me. Broccoli rabe! Escarole! NY Shuk! And a ton of other brands and gourmet items that are hard to find. Caperberries and lupini beans? They've got 'em. An olive bar to rival Whole Foods? Yep. A great cheese and wine selection? That too. Decent olive oil and vinegar selection for a supermarket? Got it. This store is so warm and inviting. It's very relaxing to shop here. And the staff is so friendly and helpful. I haven't yet tried the bakery, but I really want to, as it looks great. But everything else I've found here is either hard to find other places or needs to be ordered online. If you are used to large chain supermarkets, you probably cannot get everything on your list here, but I don't shop at those types of places, so this really works for me. If you are looking for a specialty item, you might want to look here before trying Whole Foods or Mom's (Wegman's and Balducci's are a bit far for me, so this would be my first choice for gourmet). Much of the produce is never marked as to the price so you have no idea how much different items cost. I have spoken to employees on the floor about it and one guy agreed with me and said it's management and to let FM corporate know about it. I am. To be honest, I wouldn't really categorize this as a full fledged grocery story, at least not in the likes of Safeway or Whole Foods. Maybe I'm spoiled but there have been more than a few times where I've had to do a second shopping trip because TFM didn't have the item I wanted. That being said, they have a ton of specialty ingredients and brands that you likely wouldn't find at a generic grocery store. They do carry some Coke products which is a plus over Whole Foods. Their meat section is just the butcher section, so just be prepared for that - they don't really have prepackaged and air chilled meat, but it always tends to be high quality. I do remember once not being able to find ground chicken there. Their frozen food section is severely lacking, very few brands and items, but they DO have puff pastry sheets so there's that! Another thing I like is that it's virtually never crowded. Overall, wouldn't recommend as your go-to spot but just an option if you need something a bit more specialized. read more

Oh how I LOVE The Fresh Market. When I lived in Cleveland, it was my favorite grocery store. It's not one to shop at every day because the prices are high. However, the food (and other items -- drinks, decor, etc.) are treat-level quality. It has a Whole Foods type feel but is much, much smaller and cozier. My complaints: 1) They have stopped baking the most heavenly, special bread of all time -- the ancient sprouted grain. It was a small and dense loaf of goodness. I have inquired about it several times in the past few years and it seems to be gone forever.* 2) The actual reason that this TFM only gets 3 stars from me: the employees generally haven't been attentive. For example, I can expect to wait 10 full minutes at the deli counter while three employees talk to each other about who should help me. Unfortunately, this has happened more than once, more than twice. The same goes for the cashiers at the registers. Additionally, I have been shooed out of the store more than 10 minutes before closing time. Still my favorite place, but the customer service details are lacking at this location. But you can't beat the parking lot with lots of spaces, right off 395 and in a prime Alexandria location. *If anyone encounters this particular bread any time in the future, please send me a message! read more

This grocery store has a nice assortment deli delights and fresh vegetables. It has that Whole Foods feel without the pretentious attitude that ruins so many shopping experiences. I always find my way to their deli section, because they have some amazing prepackaged wraps and sandwiches that are just perfect for lunch. There is simply nothing better than grappling a quick, healthy bite and watching your coworkers reaction when you unveil your culinary treasure in the lunch room. It was my first time here today and it didnt disappoint! It's a very aesthetically pleasing grocery store all around. The organization and cleanliness was very good. They have a good stock of almost everything they carry- from produce, coffee beans, candy (by weight), olive bar, meats and seafood, and cheeses. There's also a good selection of beer and wine. My favorite section was the bakery section. They have a good amount of pies and their fresh desserts are HUGE! The prices are very competitive for the desserts, cheaper than a Wegmans or a Whole Foods I'd say. The cupcakes are really big for just $3.50 and the cake slices are like mini cake sized. There's also breads like chocolate banana and zucchini. The fresh sushi looked so good too, I just had to get some and it was as good as it looked. The prices overall are just slightly high but I wouldn't say pricey. Average grocery store price, not like an Aldi. read more

I visited my first Fresh Market in Rehoboth and was ecstatic to find one close by to me. The place is beautiful - like the prettiest grocery store I've ever seen. Ok the stuff is expensive, but whoever is the buyer has great taste. It's not meant for your run of the mill grocery shopping and wouldn't be interesting if you don't love food. I just want to buy everything - the stuff is so interesting. I got pork rind bread crumbs, Japanese whiskey barrel aged soy sauce, and some grain-free Doritos. The bakery department is the star - so many delicious options for just $4. The strawberry pillows are my fav. I have to agree that the deli department is hard to flag someone to help. read more

First impressions were "this ain't your mama's Giant." The Fresh Market has a swanky feel to it, courtesy of wood floors and strategically positioned spotlights, that stands in stark contrast to the ubiquitous athleisure donned by the patrons. It's the sort of place where you'd expect to run into a wannabe Martha Stewart who pronounces the "h" in "herbs" just for the heck of it. With a gold plated ambience, one might expect gold plated price tags but I thought the prices were basically competitive with most grocery stores. In fact, there were some deals to be had, including the Sunday night roast chicken dinner which came with cornbread and two sides for a mere $12.99! My favorite skyr and red cabbage were both on sale, too. I mentioned the chicken deal: it was deliciously moist and juicy. My sides, brussels sprouts with bacon and macaroni and cheese, were excellent, and the cornbread actually tasted like corn and not straight-up-cake. The pièce de résistance, however, was the apple crisp pie which was a wonderland of caramely streusel smothering crisp apple slices. Seriously one of the best pies I've ever had. The Fresh Market can't get five stars from me due to the unfriendly people working here. With the exception of the sweet older lady at the prepared foods counter, everyone seemed unhappy to be at work, meaning they were typical Northern Virginia service industry employees. I passed many staff with no acknowledgement. The young person at the checkout stand seemed to engage in "mind reading" as she didn't say a word to me and just stared at me when she was done scanning. No "hello," no "did you find everything," no "your total will be $23.42," and no response when I said "have a good night." Maybe she had laryngitis, but more likely she just didn't care. read more

Fresh Market...also known as the beautiful people store. This store is sooo nice. Upon walking in, you immediately see the arrangements of flowers and the some baked goods. We were looking for some things in particular along with some baked goods that were gluten free. My sister and brother-in-law have a huge addiction to sweets...no matter what kind. Anyway, I was game for going to the grocery store because it wasn't myself I was shopping for. We were to get some brown-n-serve rolls for my brother-in-law and since we were there and my sister knew their baked goods were bomb, we were going to get some there...wrong move! As you know I called this the beautiful people store...well, they didn't have brown-n-serve rolls. I am thinking this is because brown-n-serve rolls aren't all that healthy. As you know, they are pretty much a healthy store outside of the baked goods and some of the regular commercial items. I guess brown-n-serve rolls didn't make the cut. Loved the store and how clean and well put together all the displays looked. The people seemed friendly as well, but there was no interaction since we didn't find what we initially came for. I love Fresh Market at Bradlee. There's plenty of parking since it's in Bradlee shopping center. They have fabulous bakery items and have everything from cookies to scones to cakes. My favorite full size cake is the Strawberry Chantilly Cake! They also always have individual cake slices available hubby loves the Lemon Raspberry cake slice and I really like the Coconut one. We pick up pastries there at least once a week. They are always freshly made and good sized. The deli has multiple ready to serve entrees such as quiche,rotisserie chicken,meatloaf and more. They also have a good selection of sushi,deli meats and cheeses,salads and more. They also offer cook at home meal kits,meats,seafood and more if you are looking for quality items to cook this is the place to go! The produce section has a good selection of fruits and veggies too. Plus the store always have lovely flower bouquets avaliable as well as plants. Their grocery selection has all the essentials plus there is a good wine/beer section as well. Fresh Market has weekly specials such surf and turf sundays plus other discounts as well. The managers and clerks at this location are always helpful,friendly and attentive. All in all this is a really great grocery store! It's my favorite grocery store to go to and even my 88 year old mother loves shopping there also. It's near where we both live which is always a plus! She likes to shop in person while I use instacart for about half of my orders and shop in store the rest of the time. Either way it's always a good experience. I also used Fresh Market for my pre made holiday meals for the last 2 years and the meals were always fantastic! Was introduced to this place two months ago and I dont go anywhere else for peanut butter. Its basically a fusion of whole foods and safeway on a smaller scale. There produce is fresh. They have tons of organic and healthy options. It is less pricey compared to whole foods so win win. read more

They have a large variety of prepared foods and ready made meals. I've found varieties of chips I have yet to find elsewhere, such as Stacey's fire roasted jalapeño pita chips. This would likely be a five-star review if it weren't for one (yes, ONE!) employee in the meat/seafood department. In the 10-12 times I've encountered him in the last year or so, he is consistently rude, lazy and unhelpful. Today, rather than package crabcakes out of the seafood counter, it was easier for him to point us to a bunker. All good and well if the bunker had been stocked, but it was not. This place I very cute. I ran in here when my family wanted to stop in hallmark. It's so cute! They have really good specialty items. They have the mango licorice I love. They have limited edition spiced ginger beer and other things that I purchased and am excited to try. Honestly, I ran in to use the restroom and browse but $40 later, I have a bag full of yummy treats. It's not in a location that I would regularly drive to but I am excited to enjoy what I purchased. If you go, watch their pricing. I got most of the items on sale but there were a few items I saw that were priced cheaper in other stores. Having shopped at Fresh Market before it came to Alexandria, I was excited about this location replacing the dirty Giant that preceded it. It has been a constant disappointment however that makes me sad. I wanted to like it so much. Yes, it can be pricey, but they can have good sales and classical music with free coffee makes the food shopping experience much more palatable. The service is just horrible though and creates enough stress to offset it. The deli counter is slow and understaffed. Expect only one person actually working behind it and a line if busy. I was making a salad and wanted deli meat and cheese cut into a single slab rather than thin slices and you'd think I asked for them to construct the Eygptian pyriamids for as long as it took them to figure out how to slice ONE piece. Sale items will frequently be out and the shelves left unstocked. On weekends they promote sales on pizzas, rotisserie and fried chicken, which are all good if you can find them but the racks are more often than not empty. They'll offer to make one up while you wait, but it took ten minutes to get a pizza and I wasn't willing to wait twenty minutes for fried chicken. They were having a sale on yogurt and the two times I went that week, the shelf was empty. The cashiers are often indifferent and unresponsive. More than once I've had to ask about a sale item which didn't ring up right only for them to look confused as what to do. I was buying "buy one, get one free" coffee once and wasn't sure if it rung up correctly as both coffees ended up on the reciept. When I asked the cashier, she really didn't answer me, but poked around on her terminal for five minutes before going to ask a manager who also didn't talk to me, only to find that rather than showing as BOGO it rung up 50% off. That's fine, just talk to me and know your product! While this Fresh Market looks nice and inviting like others I've been to, it's all show and doesn't deliver. read more

This store is a cross between a regular grocery chain and a organic market. The store sells locally sourced foods and a ton of natural products. It also has a huge meat/fish counter that takes up about a quarter of the store. Visit this grocery store if you're a fresh vegetable and fruit fan like me as they have plenty of fresh and ripe produce. The staff is courteous to patrons and also kept the lines moving upon check out. Warning to parents, bringing your young children to this store is like walking into a landline of junk food. The store's layout puts this huge candy section, that has lower shelves and cute jars, right by the exit. This section is in close proximity to the checkout line and will be easily viewable by your little ones. read more
