Today I experienced my first ever racist encounter when a cashier (she said her name was Marie, wasn't wearing her name tag) at the Food Lion in Lorton Virginia refused service to me by lying and saying she was closed. After going into another line I noticed that she continued to serve other customers that weren't minorities. I was specifically sent to her line by one of the front end people. I spoke with their store manager, but we will see what if anything to the employee. I do not plan on letting this slide! You should be ashamed of yourselves for hiring such people. This is not my main grocery store but I have to say it's been handy to go to especially during the pandemic. Occasionally I couldn't find things in other stores (produce,milk) but I never have this problem at Food Lion. The staff is also friendly and helpful and I truly love the ease of self checkout. I just wish the prices were more competitive, otherwise I would go here more often. read more

I stopped in here on 9-11-2022 for a few items. As usual, I ended up finding more things than I was looking for. Everything was easy to find. Clean aisles. Plenty of products on the shelves. Since it's one of the closest grocery stores near me, I can see myself coming back. It's quite an improvement from a few years ago. I like the improved storage of dairy items. Everything is in a nice and clean case, with a door that works. Pleasant cashier. Reasonably clean parking lot too. I don't think that I will ever get used to bringing my own bags to buy groceries, so VA is going to be charging me for them. NOTE: Get the plastic bags because the paper ones tear before you can get out of the store. read more

This is my first grocery store experience in Virginia. I moved here from Alabama where the prices were significantly lower. I know inflation is causing price increases, but my heart sank when the food bill for necessities totaled $175 when most products I purchased were Food Lion-brand. I signed up for the MVP card and the clerk was kind enough to use the store's card to help lighten the financial lid. It didn't do much. I think Aldi--six miles down the road in Alexandria--is incrementally cheaper for the same quality. But we shall see in the coming months. The staff, however, are friendly and genuinely interested in engaging in small talk. I appreciated that. read more

I am not fond of this establishment at all. My grandmother had ordered some Baja blast here,Knowing it's my grandfathers favorite she was willing to make the long trip.(21 miles on way). Therefor she proceeded to order! A week later, she received a notification to come pick up her order so when she finally arrives AT the store the moron's told her " IT HAD BEEN DISCONTINUED". Which to me, doesn't make any sort of sense. Food lion just needs to go out of business already, they have no clue what they are doing! read more

Keep your money and shop else where! There are never enough cashiers working so you're only left with the option of doing self check-out. I came in with my two small children that needed a double cart while i shopped, but apparently so did their employee "Heidi". She tried giving me a hard time about using it because she NEEDED (and its hers, I guess she bought it) it to go around the aisles picking up the bacon and chips. Ridiculous right? Her manager had to be called because she was adamant about not letting anyone use her kiddie cart! I've never been more dumbfounded in my LIFE! When this store was Bloom, I shopped here frequently because their produce and fresh foods were of better quality then Shoppers down the street. (Plus, it was never crowded and much better alcohol selection). It switched to Food Lion and it's HORRIBLE now. Went there for the first time post-switch this week. The layout is EXACTLY the same. Most of the selection is the same. But the staff seem to be all new. And there lies the problem. Tried getting things from the deli and the guy was semi-rude and had NO idea what was going on. Went on and on about how they didn't have the cheese supposedly on sale. (I tried pointing it out to him in the case and he went off on me, telling me that it was NOT the sale item - when the label matched the little sign perfectly...). He kept going on and on about this cheese. I kept saying not to worry about it, I'd just take the turkey I wanted, but he grumbled the entire time about this cheese, kept asking if I wanted something else and how he had never seen this cheese before and blah blah blah. After almost 10 minutes, I am handed my pound of turkey. I should have just run away. Get the few items I needed. Go to check out. Get in a line where there is a woman with a small child currently being checked out and one man in front of me. As I'm waiting for my turn, the woman at the register and the cashier start disagreeing over the price of an item. It escalates to an argument and the customer and cashier are SCREAMING at each other. The manager comes over, and while the customer WAS being ridiculous, the manager also started fighting with her as well. What were they all fighting over? A CANDY BAR. It was the most ridiculous thing I've ever witnessed. The customer was a drama-queen, but the cashier defiantly fueled the fire with her bitchy comeback remarks. I finally got to check out the cashier kept ranting about the previous customer (which I thought was classless) and when I was done, just shoved the bags in my hand and walked away from her register. No "thanks, have a nice night" or "come back and see us" or anything pleasant at all. Who knew just changing the name of a store could make it go to hell so quickly. I'll never go back. Actually impressed with this grocery store. I moved to Lorton earlier this year and have never shopped at a Food Lion before. Even though food lion is closer, I'd still go to Wegmans. Because of the pandemic, I've started using instacart and ordered from wegmans a few times. I've been disappointed with every wegmans order. The shoppers always picked rotten produce and a lot of my items are always replaced. So I decided to give Food Lion a go. They always find all my items, minimal item replacements, produce are always fresh, etc. I've been impressed with the food quality and service. read more

When the idiots were fighting each other for carts and parking places, and TP at the big box stores, I came to Food Lion in Lorton. The panic was in full bloom, but with the exception of some sanitizers, they were well stocked with everything; including water and TP. I have been using this store for over ten years. I recognize there are some areas that the bigger chains do better; however, if one is a knowledgeable shopper, Food Lion can be your best bet especially if time, convenience, staff helpfulness, store organization, and cleanliness are anywhere in your priority list. Bottom line, for Lorton residents and those close by, support our neighborhood grocery or in the future we may end up with the rest of the crazies fighting for parking spots. read more

I have very little experiences visiting Food Lions. I run in from time to time to pick up small items. It's often too expensive to purchase groceries in bulk. They also have a very small produce selection, which I'm not very fond of. I find that their meat department is typically well stocked and fresh. I would like to see more specialty items and organic items. Their organic, vegan and gluten free products and few and far in between. Over all, the store is usually clean and organized and their service pretty fast (I never have many items in my basket, so this statement might be a little bias). I have not encountered any bad attitudes though, but also don't purchase beer regularly at grocery stores... No shade. read more

Let's face it: as soon as Wegman's opened its first DC area location, every other grocery chain got bumped to also-ran status. However I've found that with Bloom you get a decent bang for your food buck, and I frequent this location when I'm in need of a few items (Wegman's receives all my big-haul patronage.) I saw this off Hwy 1 and decided to check it out. It's very spacious inside but I determined after some looking around and price comparison with stores like HT, Safeway, and Giant, it didn't really stand out thus I was not really impressed. I can get a wider selection and better deals in the more populated DC and Alexandria area. The store itself is clean and organized, but their prices were at least 50 cents or $1 more than their competitors. Their deli was very disappointing as they did not a good selection. I could not tell what the appeal is of this place, and I feel sorry for the people who live nearby are forced to shop here due to limited grocery stores in the area. Plus it was like the people there especially the employees were moving at a snail's pace, and seemed unmotivated. Defnitely not coming back! read more

It's a nice organized place with a good atmosphere and the Employees are friendly and congenial.

The Food Lion in Lorton, VA is clean and the isles are wide enough. The selection is not as good as it could be. It's not a Superstore, so I get it. As far as grocery stores go, I'd say it's ok. I like it well enough to use it for certain items. There are a couple other grocery stores conveniently located to that makes up the difference for my shopping pleasure. I was here one day and a cashier named ...well maybe it wouldn't be appropriate for me to mention because I don't want her to be stalked, but she was amazing she was quick and able to multitask. The staff is usually friendly and helpful and that to me is as important as price. I won't frequent a business that has the better price if the service is bad. I've shopped at many grocery stores in the Alexandria, Springfield, & Lorton area; &, to my great delight, have finally found one grocery store that rises above the rest in terms of low prices for name brand products, high quality service, well designed & clean environment, & courteous staff! That store is Food Lion located in Lorton, VA! I encourage anyone to take a chance & visit this store to see if you find their products, prices, & service to be worth making a shift from wherever you are currently doing your grocery shopping, to choosing Food Lion. I have been shopping at this Food Lion for over 10 years. (It was Bloom for a number of these years but same company). In the past couple months I have seen an attempt by management to improve customer service but there still remains some major problems. There is an older gentleman that works in the deli that is flat out rude. It's like he is not happy working there and takes it out on his customers. Yesterday was the 3rd time in possibly a month that he has spoken rude to me. I will say that during the daytime there are some younger people that have been working in the deli that are great but I rarely can get to the store during the day. Yesterday gave me reason to find a new place to shop. I was using the self check out and my card had been accepted. 1 item did not ring up the discount so I called the lady over and she said it would discount at the end. When I finished it totaled out and still did not charge the correct price. A different attendant thought maybe my card was not working but we confirmed it was. Then she thought I was wrong on the price but I showed her both in the flyer and on the item what the correct price was. At this point I was getting tired of defending myself so I told her to forget it and I would find another place to shop. There are new stores that have opened for me to try. In hindsight I wish I had pushed the issue harder because everyone buying the item is probably overcharged. I want a store where I feel I will charge the correct price! read more

This is the nicest store, with the best Associates in the area. My FAVORITE place is the Bakery, where the most tasty cakes and cupcakes are created. I get ALL of my event delicacies baked there, and they are so tasty I often do not want to share. I've easily gained 50 pounds at the Bloom Bakery. The service is top notch, the goodies are beyond delicious -- it is the place to go for birthdays, anniversaries, or if you are depressed and need a high cal pick-me-up. You cannot go wrong at the Bloom Bakery! read more
