He was very slow and ran us way over budget (he essentially billed us 89.00 per hour to put in tile, and he seriously billed us for 48 hours of tile work to put in 45 pieces of 12x24 tile). When we would ask for estimates to finish, he gave an estimate, and then took twice as long as his estimate. When we confronted him, he literally said, it's time and materials, it is what it is. We finally had him stop work when he was close to 50% over our original estimate (and he STILL wasn't finished). The final quality of work was so bad, we had to hire a new contractor and have all the tile torn out and start over. Be careful!

So hard to pick a star rating as there is both good and bad dealing with this contractor. We had a…read morecarport added to our 2 car garage and then a room above that entire area (so essentially above a 3 car area). It took 2 and 1/2 years to complete! Yes COVID was in the works and there was time off due to illness of both the contractor and his supervisor. However, there was also a 7 1/2 month period where NO WORK was done AT ALL. Excuse after excuse. The work was done well and we really like our new room. We have a beautiful knotty pine ceiling. The room is essentially three areas; a "family area" - sofa, chairs, coffee table, fireplace. A pool table in the middle and a sewing area in the 3rd area. The family area was supposed to be 14 feet from fireplace towards pool table area. It ended up being 11 feet! There was no conversation with us, the owners, that an error had been made by the architect and that the County had corrected and that changes would have to be made. Had there been discussion we might have been able to do some modifications which would have still allowed for the "family area" to be the 14 feet originally planned. The furniture I ordered for that area does not fit well now due to the reduction in size. Before the room was even completed we had a lien filed against our property as the Contractor hadn't paid one of his subs. We had to pay approximately $9,000 to get that lien eliminated. Luckily we still owed the Contractor money and were able to take it off the final payment. However, it took filing with the Contractors Construction Board (CCB) to get the Contractor to finish the work. Yesterday, after the job was finally completed in June, we received a Certified Letter that another sub-contractor had not been paid. I called the sub and they said they had been trying to get the Contractor to pay for over a year. Thankfully my call to the Contractor after receiving that letter resulted in the sub finally being paid today. To summarize, the work they do is very nice and our room is lovely! They were easy to have around and cleaned up after their work prior to leaving for the day. Had we not had all the delays or the liens/lack of payment to subs issues, I would recommend them. But 2 1/2 years is way too long to complete 1 large room above a garage. We received no apology or any financial reduction to compensate for the "family area" being 3 feet shorter than it was supposed to be. I would say that if someone reading this does go ahead with this particular Contractor you make certain that you hold back 50% of the project total until all work is completed. We were novices to this and our contract allowed for only a 10% final payment. There should also be a stipulation as to what the time period will be in which the work will be completed and if they don't comply with that provision there is a financial penalty.

Zach was very approachable and responded to all concerns that I had, and he discovered what had caused the leak in the window and repaired it. It turned out to be a bigger project as it turns out the wood had water damage, but he replaced and repaired what needed. Zach's pricing was very fair and reasonable and he made sure to explain everything he was doing which took away my anxiety about the whole thing. What I appreciated most was Zach's work ethic. He had a positive attitude during the project, showed up and put his work in each day, and I could really tell he genuinely cares about the project he was working on. If I need future repairs, Zach from Mountain Home Construction will be the first person I call.

We had Rick from solid rock handyman services install a deck railing for us in April 2023. He was…read morerecommended by our real estate agent that we have good success with their previous recommendations over the years. Rick came out and showed us photos of his work on his phone. The photos looked good and he was pleasant to talk with. We agreed to hire him to build our railing thinking we were going to receive a quality and professional job. Unfortunately that is not what we got (see photos). The railing has multiple issues from split wood to different size pieces, two different colored screws and crooked gates. I asked Rick to come out and address the issues and he did come out to take a look. He said he would raise the bottom rail to fix the issue on part of the slats but then I would have a bottom rail that is higher in some areas and not level at all, so fix one issue by causing another issue is his idea of quality work. He would fix the gate as he noted he used warped wood to build them. He came back a few weeks later on memorial day which he picked so I canceled my plans so we could finally put this project to bed.. When he showed up he didn't have all the supplies he needed and didn't even have the correct supplies at that. I told him to come back with the proper materials. He clearly has no attention to detail and is not interested in fixing the project the right way, instead trying to take any short cut possible. Later that day after he left I ended up sending an email asking for him to fix the project by starting over which he even brought up when i was showing him all the issues instead of trying to put a bandaid on everything. Or provide us a refund and we will hire someone else. Rick's response was he was not going to fix anything now. He is not returning my phone call now either. Sadly we trusted Rick and we got burned. It was a very expensive lesson learned and took us a long time to save up the money and unfortunately will cost us even more money to fix the project. With spending almost $10k on railing we thought we were getting a quality product which is disappointing that we are now out the money and will have to spend more money to fix a railing that we should not have to do. I can not recommend Rick with Solid Rock Handyman Services. The lack of attention to detail from installing split wood, to different colored screws, and warped gates that don't latch properly i would never have him do work on property again sense he does not stand behind his work. I encourage you to look for a different handyman if you are in the need for one. Rick with Solid Rock Handyman is not someone I would ever use based on our personal experience.

He quickly determined that the job I was wanting to do would require an electrician and because of that I decided to not officially do it. It was so nice of him to apologize to me, even though I felt bad I couldn't have him do the job and pay him. I will gladly think of hiring again if I need a handyman.

Only several months after they installed the bathtub, the caulking they used around the tub cracked and disintegrated. And, I learned today from a plumber that the bathtub itself was not put in properly-- they did not use a mortar bed! This is one of many examples of the corner cutting and sloppy work from Marin VIP Builders. I waited too long to file a complaint with the Oregon CCB. My advice: look elsewhere for your contractor.

We hired Isaac and team to replace our kitchen counter tops, install tile back splash, and install…read morenew kitchen sink/faucet. We have a smaller kitchen (about 25 sq ft of counter top space). Photos show before on the left (or top), and after on the right (or bottom). The work was completed March 2024. Isaac was honest, straight forward, patient, and quick to respond to questions or concerns. His recommendations (e.g., 3cm thick quartz counter top), though expensive, were high-quality and ultimately a decision we do not regret. The sub-contractors were respectful and took their time, and did excellent work. Some additional details: For insurance purposes, we wanted the invoice of the kitchen counter tops. After several requests, Isaac was able to get this to us. We suspect the delay on this was due to the subcontractor: The invoice was issued by the vendor (Architectural Surfaces), addressed to the counter-top subcontractor, and had to be obtained from the subcontractor. Isaac was very professional, patiently replying to our several requests, and ultimately delivered the invoice. The project start date was delayed about 2-3 days due to cutting/delivery of the counter tops, but Isaac was quick to let us know this and quick to reschedule the start date. The counter tops and sink were installed in about 1-2 days, and the tile back splash and detail work took about 2 more days. I believe the work started on a Thursday and was completed by Sunday. Delays like these may not work for some people, but they were not a problem for us; it was very convenient that Isaac's team could come in on the weekend to complete the work. We did not get other bids on this kitchen-counter remodel, but we did have Isaac submit a bid for a master-bath remodel. Comparing his bid to two others, we can say his pricing is competitive.
