I've been visiting this location for lunch sporadically for the past few weeks when working my Montgomery County office location and this market never disappoints. The hot food bar behind the counter and on the floor stays full w food options and fresh. The service deli staff members are always helpful and pleasant. This update review is mostly for the deli department. We recently volunteered to take deli platters to a memorial/remembrance gathering at a friend's home. We went to the deli counter and the manager, Jeff, was called out to help us. He showed us the book with the platters offered. We knew we wanted the mini deli sandwiches. When we mentioned a number of people at the event would be Jewish Jeff said he could substitute more turkey and roast beef sandwiches for ham. He then pointed out a mini croissant platter with chicken, tuna and egg salad sandwiches which we added to our order. Then we thought a fruit platter would be perfect too. After we got home I decided a cheese platter would be a nice addition so we called and added that to our order. I was so happy when we picked up our platters. They were perfect. Jeff did explain they had run out of mini croissants so substituted two small trays of full size. That was fine. Condiments aren't included so we got some of those and some mini cupcakes from the bakery before we checked out. When we got to our friend's and started setting up the table I was so pleased with the way everything looked. The fruit platter was particularly amazing, just beautiful. I thought there was way too much food but apparently the younger generation who stayed later than us had a second go around and the next day there was just some cheese left! A few days later we went to complement staff on everything and someone pointed our Debby who was the one who created them and were were able to thank her in person. I love this Giant. The staff has always been friendly and helpful from the meat department manager, to the staff in the seafood section, to the ladies at the self-checkout section, etc. Definitely my go to grocery store. read more

I'm somewhat surprised to read some of these reviews! This is my local Giant. The managers are out on the floor checking on organization, cleanliness, and stock and always willing to answer questions. I do appreciate their large availability of organics, and natural food products. They have an entire aisle and half for this purpose + produce. It's certainly does not compare to the bigger more natural food chains, but is great for my local store. The deli meats are always fresh as is the seafood counter. Update as of June 2019. This Giant Food store location has been recently remodeled. Appears to be more clean and more modern compared to previous periods. Appears to add more organic options as this trend continues to rise each year. Their pricing is average as you could get lower prices elsewhere. However, they do have a large selection of fruits, veggies, poultry, proteins, snacks, drink and bakery items. However, don't expect them to sell alcohol here. The staff here are throughout the building so you can easily find someone if you have any questions. Otherwise, the remodeled store looks really good. read more

Not only did it take several minutes for someone to answer the phone, when someone did answer the phone, she was completely useless. Ratchet as hell. Not to mention workers here are racist. Had the most unpleasant encounter here with a cashier named Comfort (how ironic), who kept on reminding me about distancing, DESPITE me following 6ft makers on the floor to keep my spacing. She did not make eye-contact, was rude in answering my inquiries, did not know discounted merchandise until it was pointed out to her, and even then, rolled her eyes as she applied the discount. She kept a huge distance from the cash register and away from me, even with the glass wall between us. She tried to rush me out of the store as quick as possible, even though was very chatty and friendly to the previous person in line. I could only think because I was the only Asian in there. Avoid this place especially if you're Asian because they'll probably think you have COVID19 and treat you as if you do. Inhumane, tbh. I've never been so demoralized. read more

This is your typical busy Giant Foods store. It has a very nice size parking lot. I do not shop in here on regular basis because it is next to the Westfield Wheaton mall where there's a Target with one stop shopping for everything! Also I have found the everyday prices better at Target for the snack, dairy and prepackaged and frozen items I like to buy for myself and my family. That is not to say that the produce & meat are not fresh and of high quality at Giant. I often buy bacon here and it's often on sale with my Giant card discount. And if I don't need a $25 total purchase I can get a really good price on fruit when it is the special of the week. I eat a lot of fresh fruit & also do my grandchildren! Half and half & chips are more expensive here too. I have found ice cream at a very decent price at Giant. I like ice cream! The store is clean. It is again well stocked after the very serious product shortage of produce and much more several months ago. I did not so much mind the shortages as much I did Giant not acknowledging the obvious! Nazir the cashier was on her phone the whole time she was scanning our items. I swiped my credit card and waited for the transaction to go through for over two minutes but she was constantly on her phone and didn't even look at me or answer me when I asked if my credit card went through. We thought the transaction went through so we were leaving with our items and THEN she FINALLY looked at her screen and stopped us and told us that it didn't go through. This store can be a little overpriced and inconsistent with basic items such as the turkey scrapple. I also find that the meat section (chicken wings, thighs) get purchased up quickly and it may a some time before its re-stocked. The store does have decent customer service, and they do have a quality bakery (chocolate meringue pie/ lemon meringue pie / coconut meringue pie , sushi Wednesday (4.99 special), and the deli looks to be decent for 5 dollar lunch specials for chicken wings, burritos, egg rolls, pop corn chicken and hot plate lunches. The seafood department is overpriced for the area in my opinion. This location is perhaps the worst Giant location I have ever visited. I appreciate having the self-check out machines, and I know it saves them labor costs. But to get a bag, YOU HAVE TO FIND A STAFF PERSON. They hide their cheap, flimsy bag (good luck getting one not to tear...the paper bags have weak glue and the plastic are too thin) behind some counter. Instead of saving you time, you're stuck waiting for the one guy who always seems overworked to finally recognize you and get you a bag. Bad part of town? Large clientele who don't pay the $0.05 bag tax? I really don't care...that's not my issue, and I refuse to be treated like a criminal because of what is essentially poor management on Giant's part. This is my local Giant. Normally, they're both friendly & helpful. Throughout the pandemic, they've been even more wonderful. If I don't see something, someone always either finds it or at least searches for it for me. (Including stopping what they were doing to restock ginger on all things - my sister whom I shop for was very, very appreciative.) In general, a disappointment that has only grown more disappointing as time goes by. Fruit and veg section is not good; most recently we couldn't buy mushrooms because they were all rotting. Steak on sale is a good price but it's not terribly good steak. For all this store could be with its large size, we just find it to be "meh". Sometimes ok, sometimes not and never great. I have never experienced such incompetence in my life. The pharmacy lost my prescription, they are so disorganized and incompetent I had to file a complaint with the MD board of of pharmacies. I shudder to think that these blithering idiots at that pharmacy are tasked with dispensing federally controlled substances. They make too many careless mistakes, so if perchance you are feeling brave and get your prescription filled at Giant Wheaton, I would check twice to make sure they do not give you the wrong medication. read more

OK, So I made the mistake of going to the grocery store when I was tired as all get out. So I was setting myself up to forget something. First things first. This store just opened a couple months ago and is all shiny and new. It's so clean and I feel like I find great deals on quality products. Back to the late night shopping experience. Long story short is that I paid $97 for my groceries; Nearly forgot to pay for the items in the bottom of the cart; got to the car, loaded my groceries from the top of the cart; realized I didn't pay for the card for my ungrateful friend; pushed the cart into the stall, went back in to pay for the card (I have a big conscience); got in the car; heard a great song on the radio I will probably never hear again ); put my groceries up; la la la...; and went to bed. While lying there, I realized, I forgot something... I left $40 worth of stuff including the receipt in the bottom of the cart in the parking lot and the store was now closed. The shorter short of it is that they let me go back and get everything that I left in the cart, including the emusic prepaid cards. It took a couple phone calls and searching through the database on their part because of the music cards. But they were so kind throughout the process and replaced everything even though it really was my fault for shopping while half sleeping. Now, that's customer service! read more

Nope. After visiting this location on 09/21/2019, it was nice to see that the store underwent a refresh similar to others in the area until I got to the prepared food section. Sandwiches on the top shelf of the climate-controlled display were book-ended by two uncovered and baited glue traps. The supersized "CATCHMASTER" logo was enough to result in me swearing off this location for good. There was absolutely no barrier between the traps and sandwiches. Absolutely disgusting. Pest control has to happen, but this would never fly in a more affluent part of the county. read more

I generally like their produce and they offer a better variety and better prices than Safeway, but their lunch offerings are a little on the paltry side. First off, their tuna is rancid at the sushi counter. They use the frozen stuff they sell in the store and its incredibly low quality, smelly, lean tuna with a horrible frozen texture (mushy, thready). When the sushi hits your mouth the first thing you'll notice is the smell. Their lunch salads are large and delicious but i find that they only tend to offer one or two- primarily caesar and cobb. When I first relocated out here Giant was my weekly go-to grocery store. I've always preferred Giant over Safeway because of price and Giant over Shoppers because of the produce. I had an incident at this location last winter where I purchased a frozen product that was freezer burned, and upon checking the sale by date realized that the product was 18 mos. past its expiration date!?! Although the store handled my return with class and finesse, I was still turned off by the idea of a product going that long, expired and unnoticed for sale. Plus, around that same time Shoppers began sending out weekly coupons for $10 off purchases of $50 or more spent, so that quickly prompted me to switch my store allegiance. In the past month I have begun eating and all organic diet ( cheating here and there) and with the organic section at Shoppers being pretty non existent, I promptly had to stop going there. Although Whole Foods and Trader Joes are the typical go-to places for all things organic, both are somewhat out of the way and WF is a bit pricey. Now the organic section at Safeway is pretty amazing, but the organic section at Giant wins in my book! I really like how they not only have the fruits and vegetables well stocked and displayed, but the also have a separate store up front by the produce where they stock everything that is gluten free and organic, so you don't have to wander throughout the store looking for various things. Cookies, mac n cheese, ice cream, pizza, house hold products.... All in one place! One stop shopping at its best! Plus everything is on sale or pretty reasonably priced, so I don't walk out the store feeling like I broke the bank trying to eat better. Even though my all organic diet is scheduled to end in 11 days, I have decided to make the organic life a part of my eating habits for good. I don't normally shop here but found myself in need of little pie tins that I could not find at my usual stops. Giant had every shape and size you could want! I was pleasantly surprised to be in and out if here in about ten minutes:) my home made chicken pot pies are going to be perfect! Be weary, the staff is helpful -- but management introduces several measures of racial and criminal profiling to protect assets. There have been a few instances of people simply forgetting a single item in the under carriage of the cart as they walk out and being charged for theft. This is directly from the mouths of some of the supervisors -- so... Honestly, it's a business -- but they care much, much more about profit than customer relations. There's something about the feng shui of this Giant that's just...off. Maybe it's one or two aisles too big? For whatever reason, although it has Everything you could imagine needing, I often just can't bring myself to commit to going there. Seriously, sometimes I get in the car totally intending to head to this Giant and then find myself headed off towards Safeway or Sniders. The store is clean and adequate but nothing to write a 5 star review over (and yes, I do get excited about grocery stores). It has all the basics at what I'm learning are the prices to expect in the area having done a bit of comparison in the few weeks since arriving. They don't carry a wide variety of the various ethnic items that one might need if you are a foodie but there is also no necessity to do so in this neighborhood where you can find local markets in abundance for anything and everything you may need or want. There was a greeter who almost made it his personal mission to assist me in finding anything I might desire which is a big customer service plus. Checkout was inadequate. They had lines at each of the four lanes they had open at 8 at night a time in a metropolitan area when clearly it is busy based on the attire of those standing in line. The salad bar was already closed for business. I wonder what time they decide the dinner hour is over? The deli/hot items looked tired to me and unappetizing. There was a good selection of bakery sweets and breads still available at this time of day although no naan or challah etc. Again, I presume that I can get these readily nearby. That said it is a far cry better than the Safeway that is equidistant from my home in the opposite direction. read more

This is normally the go to place to buy the grocery left to complete out grocery list at home. Here normally we get the fruit and other little things. They often have good deals like 15 corns for $10 or along those lines. Good variety of fruit. For my doggies we either get their dry food here or at target. Good variety and pieces/sizes of cakes (more than Safeway). As well as their cupcakes. The only thing is that this is the only place that sells the brand of its food I feed my birdies (parakeet). I normally try to buy two or three when they have some to stock up. It takes them a longgg time to have again. They either don't have enough or sell out quick. Couple of months ago I was running low on birdies food and Since this is the closest giant I would check every week. Please have more inventory of parakeet food. Love the self checkout. read more

Due to accessibility and product this Giant gets a 5 and if you prefer Giant over Safeway or anywhere else in downtown Silver Spring and are looking for the best one in terms of quality, accessibility and food then this one gets a 5 if you don't want to go out of Silver Spring and to like Bethesda. However, I also recommend the one on Arliss St. but if you read my review there the accessibility to it has NOT changed in the 20+ years I can recall going to it (since I was a baby and I am 26).
