They were present but invisible at the same time. We hardly even noticed their presence but they were able to capture all the right angles and moments and our guests enjoying themselves. They also puts their own creative spin on what we wanted to do. We were a little intimidated at the whole photo process but they made it fun and relaxing. When the pictures came back I was amazed and instantly in love. They were beautiful and unique, so much more than we could have asked for. The photos perfectly captured our special day! The Donovons did an amaaaazing job and made everyone look great without being annoying or obtrusive. Too often "photojournalistic" just means things look staged but corny rather than classic. These photographers stayed out of the way and didn't push people around, but managed to get beautiful shots. I kept looking at pictures this morning and thinking "whoa...there was a photographer over there??" They totally faded into the background, unless they were trying to wrangle ten first cousins, fifteen children, and ten uncles and aunts into one frame (note: numbers are estimates...but they made that picture happen!) in which case they're assertive without being awful. Also, just generally nice people and a pleasure to work with. I shopped around a lot because I was planning my wedding from Norcal so I couldn't meet my various wedding people, and part of my hesitation about using Donovon Photography was their dearth of Yelp reviews (hey, I live in Palo Alto, it means something up here). I hope this helps them - and you, smart shopper! - because I was so glad I picked them. My dad remarked that in most weddings, you get only a handful of really well done photos...and these people turned out dozens if not hundreds. I haven't seen as many wedding albums as my dad but I'm inclined to believe him. These folks are excellent, you will not regret taking them on to photograph your wedding. You *can* beat the price, but only by a little.

The pictures came out absolutely incredible. They are exactly what we hoped for with the truck, barn and wide open field/farmland in the background. Rob had his partner Kat with him to assist with the shoot. Keeping a 2.5 year old and 6 month old entertained for an hour of pictures is no easy task. But Rob and Kat together were amazing and did a great job at getting our kids attention and capturing the moment. I can't recommend Rob enough. He is fun, personable and has great energy. From our first conversation with him, to receiving our photos, Rob did not miss a single detail. I truly think the name of this company says it all, he Rob truly can spot a shot. There were many photos that we received that I can honestly say, I do not remember Rob even taking them. He was just there, not in the way and not in your face. He was just there to catch every single moment, that he felt would be important to us. Again, Rob caught moments I do not even recall, and for that I am most grateful. While shooting our photos outside pre reception, Rob made the experience fun which translated to amazing photos. Rob has this ability to see a shot, that most would not even think of. Whether it was the sun on a cloud at a particular moment, the shape of a cloud, the sun on the water or a bird about to fly over, he caught the most minor details most would overlook. There is one particular photo that Rob took of my wife and I, I must say, it is by far our favorite. We have received countless compliments about our pictures from both friends we have shown, and friends of friends that have seen it online. Most have stated the shot looks like it came from/belongs in a magazine. I assure you, these compliments come due to the beauty of my wife and once again, the detail Rob captured in it. I am reluctant to post the photo on Google, but it is on Robs website and social media pages. Again, what we loved most about Rob was how he captured moments without being interfering. We gave Rob complete freedom to "call the shots." If you have particular photos you want Rob to take, write them down and let Rob know. He will discuss all the details in the many consults he will have with you prior to your wedding or special occasion. We hired Rob as our photographer because of recommendations from friends. We feel we received more than we had hoped for when it came to our pictures, and his professionalism and creativity. What started as a professional relationship, has turned into a friendship.
