My parents and extended family have fond memories of Gibson's. This is my second trip here and glad this location is still open and doing well. It's before my time, obviously, but when you walk inside, it's like a time capsule and I feel like how my mom must have felt as a kid being in there. You just have to experience it for yourself. Also has small but pretty clean restrooms, straight in the Short trip from Fredricksburg, and if you're from south of Kerrville, it's a fun stop on your way in or out. It's funny hearing people say when we mention it too. They'll say "There's a Gibson's that's still open?!" I love being able to say yes, there's one in Kerrville, and it's definitely worth the trip. read more

Pretty much everything under one roof and one place. Everything from snacks and drinks to guns and ammo. Good selection of all.

Guns, ammo and groceries in one place? This is an amazing store! We found ourselves walking every aisle just to see what they offer! What caught our attention was the display out front - lawn furniture and all kinds of unusual items not normally seen around town. We came here to buy ammo but ended up buying a broom, kitchen utensils and other things that you thought you did not need but what the heck - why not buy it now and think about how to use it later! Anyway, a 10 minute shopping for ammo became an hour. Walking around the place takes you back a few years, at least for us who remember Gibsons before Target and Walmart invaded the cities. If you are nostalgic about the past, go visit this store. There's not too many of them left. We were glad to shop at this store in Kerrville! read more

I've been shopping at Gibson's since we moved here 20 years ago. They usually have all I need so it's a one stop shop. I prefer them over wally world any day of the week. Some of the reviews I've read refer to the rudeness of the staff which I totally disagree with for the 20 years I've shopped there not one employee has ever been rude to me. Also the prices have always been reasonable. When my sister comes to visit she ALWAYS goes shopping at Gibson's and she loves the store as well because they carry so many things that are good quality items. Best Place Ever in my opinion!!!!! This is a review for Gibson's Gun and Sporting department. The people in this department are wonderful, especially Bobby. As a woman purchasing a rifle or handgun, these gentlemen are just that! They are patient, answer questions no matter what they are, and offer excellent advice. There is zero pressure, and zero attitude. They have a wide selection of firearms, and if they don't have what you are looking for they will order it. You can go there knowing you will receive excellent service in a comfortable environment! DO NOT GO HERE, they are very rude and when you ask for help they walk away like there getting someone but NEVER come back. We were cutting some tube for my son and they told us we needed to ask for assistance. The employee was very rude and he told us we needed to be "aware". It was my first and only time going here. Gibson's is more than just a hardware store. You'll find guns, rain boots, clothing, and other knickknacks. Some of their retail - like clothing - is set out front like a street sale. We dropped in for rain boots since the entire town was sold out and Gibson's had a small selection. They even carry Hunter boots. Staff is courteous. read more

For me, going to Gibson's is recreational, kind of like going to a movie. It's easy to spend hours wandering the isles gawking at all of the interesting stuff packed into this space. If you can't find it anywhere else in Kerrville, there's a good chance you will find it at Gibson's. On my most recent visit a few days ago, I found the gun counter almost desolate. Fun, nostalgic old fashioned department store from my childhood in the 60-70s, the floor personnel order their inventory & are extremely familiar with everything on hand, not so big corporate big-wig across the country like Wally-World. It makes the floor staff & management completely knowledgable about what is on hand & what the merchandise background is - something that is truly lost on this generation. It's quite refreshing actually. As a left handed retired police chief, I needed a left handed Smith & Wesson .380 bodyguard inside belt holster for my off duty gun, something Walmart would have to special back order weeks advance if you needed it... At Gibson's IN STOCK, with the completely knowledgeable sales team who knows exactly what it is, where is come how much it costs, anything else you would want to know. Extremely easy shopping and cost-effective at the same time. Shopping list: no trespassing signs, I speak, off-duty holster, fertilizer, blue jeans, knickknacks, all available, in stock, with a friendly staff to help you. Need fourth and 10...? usually you get a discount. While they certainly may not have everything, they have a variety of things that are hard to get, at a good price, with an ethical knowledgeable staff. read more

Wow so many nice reviews wish i could have added to them. That is not the case. Having been a long long time customer of Gibson's I was really taken aback for asking such a simple request. Most times I have ample change for small purchases. Needing to break a five dollar bill for some ones should not be such a hassle. Needing to use the water vendor outside turned into a disappointing experience. When I think of the money spent at Gibson' I now question weather I should continue shopping there. Let's do the math this is a conservative figure. weekly spending for my business 45.00 x 4 weeks= 180.00 x 12 months = 2,160.00. Here's the kicker I have been a loyal customer for well over 30 plus years. 30 x 2,160.00= 64,800.00. I could easily purchase another vehicle . Do your own math sometime, it may surprise you. I will now spread my purchases to other local business. I can actually save more by using other businesses but I wanted to use local business. I wish this business all the best, but I will no longer be supporting it. read more

So disappointed, depended on Gibson's for bleach. Didn't have price near bottles. I picked up and went to pay-- $8.22 for a gallon of Clorox bleach. Price gouging? I think so. From Archery, Sporting Arms/Clothing Fishing, Welding, Plasma Cutting, Electrical, Plumbing, Gardening as well as indoor and outdoor cooking this store is leagues above others. For the best service and assistance there, look for Martin Schilling. He is the singular, most knowledgeable of all of the staff I have encountered in the store. I get keys made, buy Zote (best soap ever), Stainless Steel Choreboys (doesn't scratch fiberglass, car paint job, windows, range ovens, etc), comfortable shoes, cast iron pots, cookie cutters, spray paint, science projects for the kids, plumbing supplies, hardware, sewing & craft supplies, etc. I needed a Fishing Fly-Tie kit for a Christmas Gift. I walked in, WD came up to me and asked if he could help. He walked me right to the one they had - PERFECT - bought it and left in 20 minutes. If you want to browse, you can. As the saying goes in Kerrville," if nobody else has it, Gibsons probably does! And its true, there is an ace hardware inside and everything else. Great hunting and fishing section in the back , that will remind you of a pre walmart era. Great store - without a doubt! It really is kind of a man's store, however, there's plenty of stuff for everyone's interest. I really like the outdoor and kitchen things. But on the practical side, they have all the parts and pieces to fix, install, tear out, refurbish or juryrig that you could possibly want. Customer service here is wonderful, just can't find it like that anymore. They have so much inventory you are hard pressed not to find what you need.
