I've been to this store several times. The owner is very knowledgeable and kind. She always wears a mask and requires masks to be worn in store, which is great considering the circumstances we are living in. The store is full of everything you can imagine: buttons, ribbon, thread, appliqués, jewelry, paper, etc. etc. All vintage. I spend several hours in here sometimes just looking at it all. You can open up cabinets and doors, finding even more goodies in every nook and cranny. Seriously, this place is an adventure and a treasure trove. I have only been here one, but is was such a positive and inspiring experience that I feel like it deserves a review. This past weekend, I took my visiting mother and aunt here because they both loved to make their own jewelry. At first I was skeptical that we would find a lot since this place is a hole in the wall location, but as we spent a little more time looking around, we discovered that there were drawers and shelves of stuff here! It's a small store with a big bang hidden away, you just have to look for it! My mother and aunt ended up buyi g a bunch of delicate, intricate appliqués and beads. They weren't expecting to find so many things they loved either! All in all, I met the owner of the shop I believe and she was very informational and actually inspired me to start making jewelry with found vintage supplies and details. I had a hard time to find this place Gilding The Lily and I finally found this place. The Boutique Shop was pretty and beautiful jewelries and some other items. It was overwhelmed because there so many different kind of stones, beads and ect. I met the owner of the Boutique Shop and we had a good conversation talking about hobby making jewelries and as a same time she show me her beautiful jewelry that she design. Favorite place ever! I just love the whole feel of the store. So much to look at! It seemed a bit intimidating at first. I wasn't sure "how" to shop there. But after realizing that they have beads, buttons, and other fun stuff in various cabinets, and that yes, it's ok to go through those cabinets, then I relaxed. I think the owner or employee should say "feel free to look through all the cabinets" when you walk in. Lol, I know it sounds silly, but it's hard to recognize that these cabinets actually have product, since they are all different and antique cabinets. I thought they were just displaying the stuff sitting on top, at first. Anyway, if you love vintage jewelry-making supplies, shop here! Gilding the Lily is a fun little store in Fullerton, CA that I fell in love with in an instant. There is so much to see in this compact space, that your eyes dart everywhere. The merchandise is always changing, and the classes are fabulous. I only wish I could be there all the time. Vintage papers, flowers, hats, beads, ribbon and trim to name a few items available. Jewelry abounds and Thursday evening is the open studio for all who want to join in the sisterhood of artists. OK all my altered art friends... this store is a big ole' OMG of vintagey goodness... Hundreds of vintage french ribbons, jewelry findings, hats, millnery flowers and bolts of hat netting. German glass glitter for $2 a scoop, oodles of vintage buttons and religious medals rhinestone jewelry, pearls, vintage beads. I mean this place is one of those stores you can drop an easy $500 and not even blink. Her prices are a little high compared to an estate sale, but the selection she has under one roof makes it so easy to just get what you need. These are things you just can't go to Michaels and pick up when you need them. If you are anywhere near OC or if you are going to Disneyland, make a stop here... It is down Harbor a few miles from D-land and WELL worth the trip. By far one of my favorite stores I have found here in the southland... I love it as much as Castle in the Air in Berkeley, (well, maybe a bit better actually.) I love this shop! What a great resource for vintage embellishments for needle workers. I found a spool of silver metal cord that's perfect for couching on my latest project. The shop is packed full of ribbon, buttons, charms and much, much more. The vintage hats are a treasure for costumers and my friends liked the quirky purses. I plan on using the buttons I bought on my needlepoint, cross stitch and penny rug pieces that I'm finishing up. The prices are reasonable and the variety truly astounding. The setting of the shop in downtown Fullerton is quite cute and there's lots of really great restaurants within walking distance. Well worth the trip for out of towners. I'm so glad I found the shop as the only comparable shop that I've been to is in Portland, Oregon. read more
