    Welcoming you to Gilly's!

This is where you MUST go if you are in Hatch, NM!! The chilies are roasted fresh. The quality of the actual chilies as produce are top notch, grown locally in Hatch on their sprawling family farm! The family that owns and runs it TRULY cares if you are happy as a customer. Gerardo, the owner is very kind. They truly value you as a patron. Oh, and when you get those chilies home and you begin using them you will KNOW how fresh they are. Even the fresh frozen ones we bought are PACKED with flavor. Don't miss your chance to experience Gilly's!!

They also sell their own red and green chile sauces in several heat strengths, but the green is invariably either in extremely short supply or sold out.

Order fulfillment has always been great and on time. This time however we discovered our "Hot" chiles were lacking any noticeable heat. They also look unusually long for Sandias, so I suspect they might be Big Jim or Joe Parker instead. We reached out to customer support who let us know we were probabaly "removing the vein". We've always followed the same process. Roast over an open flame, peal, remove the seeds, bag, and freeze. We never wash or de-vein the chiles and have always had a rich warm burn. After discovering the total lack of heat in this batch, we even left them roasted peeled with the seeds intact for two days in the fridge, hoping they'd develop some kick. Nothing. We're not heat chasers or "chile heads." Heck, we're from New England, not exactly known for spicy food. Usually, one pod is enough to add the perfect amount of heat to a dish. This time, I used five pods in a succotash, and the heat was barely noticeable. Honestly, this batch has only slightly more heat than a bell pepper. That's a big and disappointing departure from what we've come to expect. It really seems like we were sent the wrong chiles. But since they refuse to even consider that possibility or make it right, we'll take our business elsewhere. It's a lousy way to end what had become a beloved fall tradition for us. I'm sure our small 10-25 lb order won't matter to their bottom line, but we're genuinely bummed out.

I would simply stay away from this company if you can. I just ordered 10 lbs. of green chili and…read moretwo jars of red chili ($164.15 for the order) , and since I no longer live near Las Cruces (I now live in Michigan), I was hoping for the best. They shipped me 9 lbs. and then tried just today (an hour ago) to tell me they shipped my order as ordered. That's a complete lie, and I feel like they are trying to gaslight me (like I cannot count, though I hold a Ph.D. in English. Really? The majority of our population can count to 10, unless you are 0-2 years old.) This is a joke of a company. I told them it's the principle of the issue and that I do not like to be lied to, but that I'd take one for the team and eat the cost. I will never order from them anymore. I'd rather drive to Hatch, NM, and buy the roasted chili myself--at least I will be able to get a good southern New Mexican meal made by family owned businesses who are about their community. I still love Cruces, always will, and I still love Hatch, NM, but this company gives the area a bad name.

What an adorable little tea shop in a sleepy, small New Mexico town! We were passing through on a…read moreroad trip in late 2020 (a COVID-safe way to travel), and stopped here to stretch our legs. The tiny town of Mesilla has a quaint downtown square with a few specialty shops and restaurants and, as a tea lover, I made a beeline for this place. The shop is stuffed with all sorts of loose teas, local products, honey, essential oils, and tea making accessories. Pretty much any of the locally made items would make outstanding souvenirs for any foodie. I make hot tea a lot, so I wanted to peruse all the loose leaf teas. My normal tea shop has a better and larger selection, but I really wanted to support this small business. I had a few questions about the teas for sale, and while the girls working the day I visited were very eager to help, they were sadly not well-versed in tea. Because of this, I ended up just purchasing a standard oolong because I didn't have a lot of confidence in their tea knowledge (just FYI; hopefully the owners will do a bit better training). I don't expect workers to be brew experts, but I would appreciate more thorough knowledge about specialty products. The prices are about what you'd expect for a touristy type tea shop, and when I got home, I made a pot of the oolong and it was tasty. If you love tea, check this place out if you're in the area. Friendly people and good customer service.

The magnificent truth is, Hatch New Mexico has the best chili peppers in the world. And I don't mean they have to be hot, although that can be a good thing, the taste is inexplicable, beyond expression, very unique and also extraordinary. The smell alone of fresh chili, and the aroma of fire roasting peppers, and the incredible volume of the cosecha is unparalleled. These folks make incredible salsas and powders with their chilis - hmmm good! As you gaze upon ristra after ristra of chili peppers dangling from the girders, and laying on the trays, or scattered among the displays and even in your hands - you can't be but astonished at the flavor and fragrance that abound around you. Everything roasted or sun-dried Hatch Chili is here. From whole chilis, powdered chili, edible, ornamental and utilitarian ristras - this place is simply fascinating. Just in case you're wondering, not all Hatch Peppers are hot, hot, hot!
