Amazing transformation! Cindy (aka Sandrella) did my hair. I requested a balayage that goes up to my roots. This was my fourth session since I started balayage summer 2019. I finally got the ashy blonde I've been looking for. I was very hesitant about getting my hair done because I was worried my hair could not handle anymore color plus it would be Cindy's first time working on my hair. Someone else had done my previous sessions. My initial plan was to just touch up my roots but I thought it would be too complicated. I got my balayage and cut done here a few months ago, and I am obsessed with the ladies here. Such a cute shop and everyone inside treats you like family. I went on a Saturday morning and the wait was pretty long, but they were extremely apologetic and even with that the service was so great that I will be back! Honestly, I wouldn't mind waiting for three hours for this service. I was so happy with how my hair turned out and the cut is the best cut I've ever gotten. Gina did my coloring and cut, and Cindy did my blowout. If you're around the area or don't know where to go to get your hair done, definitely stop by here! You won't regret it. I am fairly new to Skokie and needed a new salon. I found Gina's Salon and based on the positive reviews decided to give it a try. What a mistake. I saw Gina for a haircut. The haircut was so bad. Sides were uneven, choppy looking at the ends. My hair has never flipped on the ends and looked frizzy and dry. I did notice while she was cutting that she did not cut my hair in sections. Instead she cut my entire length of hair in one cut at the bottom. I have NEVER had my hair cut in this fashion before. I received a better hair cut from Super Cuts when I first moved here. I spent a good amount of money for a hair cut that I have had to deal with for a couple of months that looks just terrible. In addition, when I was finished and checking out I was told they do not accept credit cards and therefore I had to leave the salon, go home and bring Gina a check. Not very good business practices. I would never recommend this salon based on my experience. read more

I agree with the previous reviews that this is pretty much a hole-in-the-wall. It's very easy to miss and not all to pleasing on the eyes. The last time I got my haircut, I went to a "high-end" salon (Red 7 Salon in Evanston) and the girl butchered my hair. I didn't have super high expectations for Gina, but I just wanted someone give me a decent cut for a decent price. My problem with Gina was that she didn't cut my hair at all as I had asked her to. I asked for an assymetrical cut much like Rihanna's and I came out with a straight bob that was cut way too short. I mean, she did a good job on the cut but she didn't listen to what I had asked for. She was very nice but not very attentive. Not only that, it seemed like she was in a rush to get me out of there even though there wasn't anyone after me. What's the rush? Was it better than my cut at the high-end salon? Yes. Was it the cut that I had asked for? No, not at all. Was it worth the $30? Ehhhh, I don't think so. I could have gotten a comparable cut at Betty's and Nick's for $5. I've been to a number of salons and the only one I highly recommend is Art & Science. She did a great job on the blow dry but I had to wash it out soon after because the shampoo that they used wasn't very pleasant smelling at all. Beware: they do NOT accept credit card. read more

I've had acne scars on my face for years that I always hoped I could get rid of. Stella did microdermabrasion for my skin, and I noticed an improvement after only one time! I went back for a second treatment and a third, and now I can barely notice them. Stella was very attentive and kept asking me how I was feeling throughout the treatment. She advised me how soon to come back after and she did an excellent job! I also went to Gina salon to get highlights for my hair. It's the best my hair has ever looked. I was inspired by the review that gave Gina Salon four stars. Plus, I am always down to give up the frills for a decent cut and color. I agree that this salon is easy to miss and that the interior is uncomfortable. However, I wasn't as pleased with Gina's results as I hoped to be. Gina had another woman apply the overall color and her assistant was not very accurate. I left the salon with dye stains all along my hairline and neck (not very attractive). Plus, I had called to make an appointment for a cut, color, and highlights ahead of time. I assumed that I would be given the time of day. However, Gina took on two clients while I sat there waiting with my hair wet (and a wet towel on my neck- not cool) while she chatted with two different men and gave them haircuts. We had discussed dying my reddish hair brown and adding in red highlights. She did apply the highlights (after finishing up two clients in the meantime that were walk-ins), but never did the second step to make them red. Then she asked if I "still" needed a cut and I should have just said no. She hurriedly cut my hair much shorter than I had asked for and when I asked about the red highlights and the overall color not being what we had planned, she told me that I could come back in to get red put on the blonde. I agree that this place is cheap ($75 for cut and color), but I was very disappointed. I think that Gina would do a nice job if she had the time, but she was very busy accepting every client that walked through the door, including a girl that walked in while I still had dye on my hair proclaiming that she needed highlights and color (when the salon was closing in an hour and a half). Perhaps booking an appointment in the morning would be better. I hadn't gotten my hair professionally colored in a long time (I was saving the $ and just doing overall color myself). I now realize that throwing down the extra cash would've been worth it to be treated with a little more care. Since I already sacrificed too much length at Gina Salon, I now have to wait it out. I will still keep my eyes out for another thrifty option, but I would not recommend this place. read more
