In my search, I was looking for a new hair salon. I wanted somewhere not too far from me and had reasonable prices. I came across this place because of one of the employees, Sue. Once I found out she was working for this salon, I immediately made an appointment for a root touch-up (I ended up making a second one later on for a haircut). Sue and I go way back. Both of us worked at Ulta together a few years ago and she was my hair stylist. Once quitting from that job, I could no longer afford the prices of the Ulta salon, so unfortunately I had to go somewhere else for services. Anyways, once I found out where she worked, I made an appointment right away. When I did a root touch-up and a haircut by her, I got many compliments. Sue is a hard-worker, honest, fast, and very nice. If I have any questions or don't like a particular thing about whatever service was provided to me, I can always communicate to Sue. She will answer any question, give me advice, or try to solve whatever issue may be. I'm super happy to have her as my hair stylist! read more

My daughter loved the facial and felt very comfortable and welcomed with Tamara. I got a facial from Gena, and it was fantastic! My face had life in it again, skin literally glowing! I recently relocated back to Florida and one of the things that makes me the saddest, is that I can't go to this place anymore. lol After looking for nearly 8 MONTHS...I found Chateau Gena and I'm upset that I didn't find her earlier! I had visited several salons to have my brows done and they completely ruined my brows. I came to Gena as sort of a last resort-hoping that she could help me and she did. The first thing she noticed was how my brows lost their shape and were overplucked. FINALLY someone who saw it and was willing to do something about it! She brushed my brows and then threaded them and I'm so grateful for that because it's a cleaner look and it lasts longer AND it helped me to get my arch back. I also really liked her because she ALWAYS complimented me. Other places I've visited would constantly put me down in order to encourage me to buy more services to "become prettier". That kind of talk was discouraging but not Gena. Gena constantly told me how beautiful I was and it made more comfortable with her AND it made me want to come back everytime. Chateau Gena is amazing. Seriously. And that's saying a lot since, until this point, I hated getting anything done at a salon, and I almost never review places. I got a no-chip manicure and classic pedicure, and I got my upper lip, chin, and eyebrows threaded. I came a few days before my wedding just looking to get a manicure and maybe an upper lip wax. Gina (who did my threading) was so thoughtful and recommended threading when I told her I'd never had anything waxed before to prevent breaking out so soon before the wedding. And she did a GREAT job. I couldn't stop smiling into the mirror! Diana, who did my mani pedi, was so sweet and did an amazing job with my mani/pedi. She was so careful and precise and it turned out beautifully. The salon itself is beautiful, and they even have drinks and cake for their customers! Everything is very, very reasonably priced (especially considering the quality of service provided is on par with a high end salon) and the people are incredibly kind and thoughtful. This review is LONG overdue. I wanted a place close to home to try out and was a little worried being I am African American. I like to invest locally in the community I reside in and this salon is close to my home. I called the salon and explained I had extensions and the services I wanted. They scheduled me the same day with Sue. Sue immediately made me feel like family. She introduced me to other staff, explained their role at salon. Sue is a great stylist, but also a wonderful person. I explained how I was a bit nervous because I have anxiety around people. I don't know how she managed it in a salon busting with people, but she managed to get me a wash bowl solo and then back to her station. She even distracted me while styling my hair. Sue is just an example of the good energy in the salon. This team appears to be amazing based on the way I've seen other clients looking when they leave the salon. During my intial visit Sue explained product she was using and why, got more detail on my style. When I got home post appointment my boyfriend was like,WOW! I have to admit every time I leave her chair I feel glamorous. The salon is gorgeous space and the other staff is so friendly and kind. Talk to the receptionist!! She is super knowledgeable about all the product and services. I'm so happy I moved to Skokie and found this gem. This salon would be worth traveling to read more

I am disappointed to write this review because I have been a loyal client for over 2 years. I had gotten my eyebrows threaded a week ago. Within that time period, I experienced stinging sensation for an usual time which lasted for 4 days. Thereafter, severe itching began around my eyebrows along with inflammation which then later turned into redness with clustered bumps filled with pus. I contacted the salon to explain the matter in hopes of Gena would possibly be willing to have me come in so she could evaluate what may have caused the irritation. Rather, she explains to me these symptoms don't happen from threading and maybe I am allergic to threading(have been getting this procedure over 15yrs never had this happen) or may have gotten bitten by insects or ants and should go see a doctor. I was absolutely appalled by the response as I assumed she'd be empathetic in her response considering her level of expertise. I went to immediate care right after speaking with her and learned that my symptoms are that of folliculitis which is caused by the pulling of hair from the follicle and may had some bacteria that entered causing the skin to be infected. Typically, Gena cleanses her hands, but this day, I do not recall Gena doing so as she was in a hurry to attend to her next client promptly. I was prescribed oral and topical antibiotics. I am very big on customer service from establishments that I give my business to. If Gena approached the matter in a different manner and took accountability of the work performed could very well have caused this and consider a different method of service for next visit, I would not be researching for a new esthetician. read more

I walked into this amazing salon and couldn't get enough of the beautiful and very extraordinary decor. To top it off, the services are endless, I sat down with a girl named Diana to do my no chip manicure, and I have to say it was a Great overall experience she's very professional but makes you feel like she's already your friend. Has great attention to detail. My nails are very hard to deal with I have oil nailbeds and even a no chip chips!! but this girl managed to keep the no chip on and stay on for a while. I went here for the first time after seeing the yelp rating to get an updo but was sorely disappointed. Sue was my hairdresser and from start to finish was very unprofessional. I specifically asked her to do specific things and showed her a picture but she ignored all my requests and did whatever she wanted. She was rushing the entire time and barely room 30 min to do my hair because she was highlighting someone Else's hair at the same time! I was so upset afterwards and the updo was not worth the $55 I was charged. My advice do not go here! read more

This place was terrible. I wanted a blonde BALAYAGE for prom and they gave me unblended blonde and orange highlights. Then Sue insisted on fixing it THREE days before my prom and she literally colored the top of my head RED and the bottom half was bleached. It was gross and my hair was falling off. There was no blending whatsoever. I had my hair dark brown for 9 months so it can grow out and so I can go back to blonde but she completely RUINED MY HAIR!!!!! read more

Went here for the first time for a no chip mani & reg pedi...the venue is beautiful & well kept. They don't "specialize" in nails, they mostly do hair and lots of other facial services. My service took 2.5hrs! This was way too long for a mani/pedi. Each technician has their own set of nail colors and mine didn't have many to chose from, which is a big deal when getting your nails done. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. They get 5 stars for their hospitality. For nails, I don't recommend it unless you have your heat set on a technician. read more

I got my first facial ever by Tamara at Chateau Gena and I'm so glad that I did because my skin has never looked better. Really congested areas of my face like my chin and nose are so much clearer and smoother after one session. I was kind of scared to get a facial because people always talk about how painful they are but Tamara was really gentle yet effective with any extractions that she did on me. I really loved how she took time to ask about my skin and my lifestyle to see what could be causing my skin issues. Afterwards she gave me product suggestions for my oily skin type and what I could use to gently remove hyperpigmentation on my cheek. As Holiday season would have it, Chateau Gena is a godsend. It has a relaxed friendly atmosphere-no snootiness or judgment here. It's great service without the snooty. Diana, the nail technician, is a sweet person who is up for chatting, but can also pick up on my vibes when I just need to relax. She is so precise and careful with my feet, which means a lot as I am diabetic. Don't get me started on the owner, Gena! She might be one of the most genuine generous people I have met. She always fits customers into her schedule. Her threading is fast and contours the face perfectly. She gives amazing facials and is very sensitive to clients needs! They don't try to oversell products here and the prices are a steal! I've been to the Peninsula, Red Door Spa, and done my fair share of time in different beauty arenas. This place is a gem! Loved my haircut and blowdry with Rita! Barely had to explain what I was looking for... She knew exactly what I wanted/needed. I have a hard time finding places that can do a good blow dry. I feel like I always end up coming home and fixing my own hair- however, with Rita... It was perfect... Didn't have a change a thing! This spa/salon was a great find! I scheduled a microdermabrasion with Tamara was not disappointed. My skin was the worst it had been probably since high school and in serious need of some care. Tamara was very knowledgeable and efficient in her assessment of my skin, what I could do currently to manage it, and products that would help. The microdermabrasion was wonderful and gently done to help clear my skin. She explained the process and products she was using as she went along. Once she finished, Tamara had a few suggestions for me to continue treating and taking care of my skin. She was so pleasant and great at her job that I'll certainly be returning. A week before my wedding, she put highlights in my hair that were stunning and looked natural at the same time, and prepped my hair for the big day. This was my first time coming to Chateau Gena. I loved my haircut and blowout with Rita! She did such an amazing job. She is easy to talk to, offers great advice, and very personable. I hadn't cut my hair in a while as was weary of taking two inches off. She was understanding, gave her professional opinion, but she made it clear that it was ultimately my choice. I am so particular about my hair and usually have to micro manage whoever cuts my hair ( yes i'm that girl) however, at Chateau Gena I let Sue take complete control! She is the only person I have ever let cut my hair wet( i usually only do dry cuts) however, she is so fantastic!! I love this salon. Diana is doing my nails and i love her. she doesn't waist any time massaging the legs or hands but latterly handles them 100% of the time spend. She makes sure the legs are soft and looking good. not missing any details. i can go abut 3 to 4 weeks between the pedi's with her. on one of the dya when she was busy and i did not have any other time, i did go to another salon, they seemed good but within few days i start seeing the dry skin coming back. since them i make sure to be more flexible and got to diana only. my only thing is, i never can remember the name of the salon so it takes me few minutes to find it every time i need to book the appointment. everybody in the salon are very freindly. read more
