Then the stylist cut to precision: just within my safety zone--tastefully tweaked with enough style to stay on trend without conforming to fad--well inside regret (i.e. My Jennifer Aniston circa 1995 mistake). The colorists and stylists here are true masters in their field. There's clearly a lot of training and experience behind their work. I'm hard-pressed to prebook more than 2 weeks out, so I jump around per availability. Recommendations: Dawn, Judy, Jeff (Color) and Kelly, Helen, Cyndi (Style). Bottom line, I consistently leave a better looking me (obvious talent). But it's not just about beauty, balance is equally important--from the get go. Mind your own first impression: the receptionist greets you by name, asks about your last trip, then ensures you're legally parked. "Thanks, Stephanie. Yes, I will leave my worries at the door." Then it's ME TIME: relax, be comfortably silent or chat pleasant conversation, soak up the spa-like ambiance, faint coffee-house music, head massage, hot tea or cucumber water (and secretly flirt with lash extensions). Then we walked in and handed our Groupons to the receptionist which was also the hair stylist. My cousin and I flipped through the binder with magazine clippings to get an idea on what we want. She pointed to a honey blonde color and the lady told us that she can only dye our hair a dark color because our hair was long and it won't cover my cousin's "gray hair". I told her our Groupon stated Coloring/Highlighting. She explained she won't honor it because they will only dye it dark and we had long hair. It didn't state anything like that on our Groupon! The end result was TERRIBLE. My cousin's hair was tri-colored (honey blonde on top and red all over with black spots) My hair, was fine. Although, you can't even tell I got my hair dyed as it was just a brown color and 4 strands of highlighted hair. Bad service. Won't honor Groupon. Not worth saving the $30. Go somewhere else.

I've been trying to find a go-to stylist now that I have moved up North and don't have the time to hit the city. I've tried places like On Stage, Teddie Kossof and Mario Tricoci and haven't been that impressed with the stylists nor the service of these locations. How I wish Renee from Roque never left town! I've passed by Gordon Salon when shopping at The Fresh Market but finally decided to give it a try after talking to one of the gals at the Aveda store at Northbrook and because I found a deal. I was referred to Maria but she wasn't working at the Wilmette location so they placed me with Hailee. I told Hailee that I wanted something that was low maintenance and complained that my hair just looked so limp and fine. She recommended that I get more of a blunt/straight cut with minimal layers. I was surprised to hear that because I thought layers would add more volume so despite my skepticism, I gave it a try. After all, hair does grow back, right? I'm glad I let her work her magic because my hair did look fuller and it just moved so much better and looked healthier. I also had her fix my wanna-be-long-side swept bangs and she got it to work. For the next few months, my cut still looked as great as the day I got it cut. The other bonus is the nice head and hand massages that come with the cut. The place is very professional and clean. I don't feel rushed or pushed with product after product. I'm glad that I finally stopped by because I feel like I have found my next go-to! Update: I also wanted to give a shout out to Carrie who did my bang trim and did an awesome job. Now that I've found two go-to's at this location, I bumped up my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars! One star for effort. I don't normally write reviews but this experience has been on my mind for a couple of days now. Talk about bait & switch. I was given a quote for a $20 discount ($10 discount per hair service for cut/color). I was charged full price. My haircut was not a cut, she basically snipped pieces of my ends and that was a $55 cut?! Seriously?? My coloring was off even after calling my salon to match my color. And this is suppose to be an Aveda salon?? I was not happy with the hi-lights and the stylist did offer for me to come back the next day to fix it. I came back the next day and it was worse with the toner she put in. I was then "handed over" to the new girl for a blow dry. At the aveda salon I go to, they take their time to cut, blow dry, flat iron and go back thru for the finishing touches. It's all about the details and precision - which is what is lacking at Gordon. This salon is overpriced and not worth it. Save your time and money and go elsewhere. read more

I absolutely love Gordon Salon and the high-quality products they use on your hair. I've had several blowouts and haircuts here, and every experience has been fantastic. While no business is perfect, I've always received great service. Yes, it's on the pricier side, but the quality and experience are well worth it. The stylists have always been friendly, and I especially enjoy the complimentary hand and scalp massages -- they're a wonderful touch. The salon itself is impeccably maintained and feels very sanitary. I had Fresca for my blowout last night, and she was not only knowledgeable about the products but also incredibly kind. I also appreciate the warm welcome when you walk in, along with the offered refreshments. If I had to suggest any improvements, I'd love for the massages to be a bit longer, and it would be great if there were more staff at the front desk to handle the flow of clients. Kevin cut my hair and did a great job. I went in with a bob and came out with the short haircut that I wanted. It was nice having my head and hands massaged as well. Kevin was very thoughtful and offered me something to drink, etc. I was very flexible on the type of haircut that I wanted, and he came up with a nice cut. I have received many compliments on the cut. I especially appreciated the fact that he said that I could come back within the next 2 weeks free of charge to make any changes to the cut. That wasn't necessary, but sometime after you wash your hair yourself you realize that it needs to be tweeked. Kevin is one of the newer stylist so the cut was $39. For a more experienced stylist cuts are much more expensive. If anyone said that I referred them they get a $20 discount, as will I. read more

This location is HORRIBLE. The staff is rude, and even though it isn't busy they won't acknowledge you. I had an appointment for my daughter and went up to the front desk girl with the hat on, and she was unbelievably rude. I wasn't sure who the appointment was with and she rolled her eyes and even scoffed as soon as i walked away, as my daughter saw her.... completely unprofessional. Aside from that, the service itself was mediocre. The stylist was very friendly, but unfortunately her service showed clear lack of experience. I ended up paying the full amount and it took way more time than expected. When i left, the front desk girl with the hat passed by me and she smelled so foul. Super overpriced for such low experienced stylists. Most of them looked under 25. read more

This was my first time here and I will definitely be back! Molly colored and styled my hair and she did an excellent job - I am very pleased with the results!! Molly was very kind, attentive, and easy to talk with. She did a quick job; one thing I do not like is to take a long time at the salon. Kevin rinsed and shampooed my hair as well as massaged my scalp; he did such a fantastic job - I want to take him home with me! He's so cute and sweet! And he gave me a hand massage which was just heavenly! I scheduled a return appointment next month for root touch up and I hope it will be as great an experience as my first one. The salon is very clean and well maintained and all those who work there are very nice and courteous. I recommend this salon highly. read more

I really hate just writing bad reviews but I'm honestly just so disappointed with the service I received I had visited this location and went to a stylist named Alexia or Alexis and she was rude and seemed a little annoyed I settled on a root color I didn't even want because i wanted to just leave the blowout was also not done well at all and I paid extra for styling for the blowout I feel bad because all the reviews on here are very well maybe my stylist was just having a bad day but I still think she needs a lesson in customer service it's a pandemic and me spending extra money like on my hair I want it done right I'm not asking for a refund but I am asking you all learn from this review the pros on this place the front desk girl seemed nice read more

The best salon I have ever been to ! Professional , fun , and good at what they do !!! I have been twice now and I will continue to go there as my permanent salon . Molly is an amazing stylist with a fabulous personality !!!!! I would recommend this place to all my close friends and those who are in seek of a constant place to go to get their hair done ! Ask for molly !!!!!! She did great with my color as I did want something different than just your everyday highlights and even curled my hair for me just to show how it would look. I've been going to Gordon Salon for a couple of years, after asking a friend where I might go for a great haircut. Its become my 6-week ritual and frankly, treat, to pay a visit to the Salon for a haircut and brow wax. The staff are extraordinarily welcoming, offering a beverage immediately upon arrival. Complementary scalp and hand massages have always been part of my cut -- I leave very relaxed! I finally found my new hair salon. I booked my appointment and the girl at the desk was very friendly. Holly gave me a single process color to touch up my grey roots. She worked with me to match the color with my existing low lights. She is an excellent professional stylist. I then had a blow dry appointment with Melissa. She discussed my haircut and highlights for my next visit. She was very friendly. She styled my hair beautifully and made it feel very soft. I will definitely come back. My first visit to Gordon was really nice. I booked an appointment online (convenient) with Holly and felt really comfortable in her hands. She was very knowledgeable, sweet, and enthusiastic about working with my naturally curly hair. This sort of came as a surprise as most stylists at other salons are always pushing me to go straight. Holly asked all the right questions about my lifestyle and gave me a plan for products and styling, as well as color when I shared my concerns with her about emerging grays. I always just wandered around looking for the cheapest hair cut. (hair cuttery, supercuts etc). We were in such a rush to get to a family get together and I needed a cut bad so I decided to give this place a try since its pretty close to me. Boy was I ecstatic about my hair cut! I instantly feel welcome when I walk through the door. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, and helps create an ambiance that makes you feel special right from the start. Molly and Ren have done my hair for the better part of the last 2 years, and I could not be happier. Kaylie was a good interviewer and found out exactly what I wanted, what type of styling and product usage regimen I preferred, and was careful to consider my scalp condition when she she selected products and used her tools. The new wash station, with its separation from the noise and bustle of the rest of the salon, was a welcome respite -- the quiet, water temperature, comfortable seating, and aromatherapy from the products were all delightful. Yesterday was my first trip to this salon. I loved it! The space was amazing very sleek yet also inviting. Everyone was very friendly and I was greeted with many smiles and hello's when I came in. Everyone that works at this salon is so friendly and professional and I believe some of the best in their field. Gordon Salon gives you a great treat without having to spend your entire paycheck. I chose a Rising Star stylist with an affordable rate for a haircut, but I do not feel she is lacking for skill at all. She gives me a ton of attention and I feel she really understands what I want to do with my hair. Beyond that she has ideas about what would work well with my hair. I've been going to Mario Tricoci for a long time and have gotten tired of the big Salon experience - it's too loud and not a relaxing hour. I've had my eye on Gordon Salon for a long time because I shop at the Carson Pirie Scott in the same mall and have stopped in to purchase Aveda products. I finally stopped in for a haircut with Madison. She did a great job and is a confident stylist. I will definitely be back for a second cut with her. The facts that the salon offers different levels of professionals (emerging artists, professionals, master stylists) makes it a good option for any budget because the prices are scaled based on the hairdresser's experience. Melissa has been my ONLY stylist for the past 10 years. She is creative, brilliant and, most importantly, a really good listener. She will do your hair the way that makes you feel good about yourself. She is talented and creative enough to know all the latest techniques and methods and subtly use them to create a style that really works. April assured me that all of my remaining appointments for 2026 were in the "book". Today, I arrived for my normal appointment and was advised that Ina was on vacation and that neither Ina nor anyone else had bothered to either call me or re-schedule me with another stylist. Also, the receptionist was completely useless. instead of trying to solve the problem by seeing if another stylist was available, or scheduling me for another time, she just kept babbling "its not my fault". I think this is pretty shabby treatment after 6 years as an every two week customer. I'm shopping for a new salon and will never return to Scissors Edge. I would think that Shelly, the owner would offer a comment, but total radio silence.

Also, if your feelings are easily hurt and you feel offended by dumb things then this is not the place for you. They are straight to the point and business but they also build a relationship with you over time. I have been coming to this salon for over 10 years + and there's a reason why I keep coming back for Besa, Lori, and Tonya. They are all amazing. I love them all. Besa you are the greatest and I am blessed to have found you. Anyone who gets their hair done by you is so lucky and blessed. Tonya, thank you for always making my nails Look beautiful, love you so much and the heart that you put into your work. This place is a hidden gem. Don't expect to get I. If you don't have an appointment and then don't turn around and get mad because they can't see you. They are busy and booked months in advance.
