Giving 4 stars for the service and the vibe. It's a small, family-owned business in a small town. They have regulars, and they have that small-town everyone knows everyone type of vibe, and it's kinda nice from this city-person's perspective. LOL. They were very graceful and patient even though we came in only an hour before close and it took us a good minute to figure out what to eat. They also were really nice about some modifications we had because someone in my party has some food restrictions. I ordered the spaghetti, and other people in my party ordered a salmon with rice and toast and their brisket sandwich with fries. Others just got drinks and fries. My spaghetti was okay; I wish it was a little bit more flavorful, but it wasn't bad. I was told the salmon and rice was really filling and good, and the brisket sandwich was delicious. This place is delicious - real Appalachian comfort food! Everything is hot and fresh, and food comes out quickly even when they are busy. Breakfast is served all day, and different specials are posted daily. They are known for their steaks and their Giovanni sandwich, as well as the most delicious homemade bread. Locals go here to visit with each other, and there is a larger room in the back for small groups. This small town diner is stereotypically wonderful. Good people and good food! read more

Pros: Clean, well-run, with very good service. Food is freshly well-prepared; we had buffalo chicken Mac and cheese, chicken tenders, and prime rib, and all was very good. They only made a 12" (probably because the crust was frozen) and the sauce had the distinct taste of spaghetti sauce. The pepperoni were those cheap, little ones that cup up and hold the grease. My Bf and i arrived in WVa, were at a hotel and were starving, we seen an advertisement for Giovannis so decided to order burgers. Figuring ya cant ruin a burger right?? WRONG!!!!! When the food came it was horrendous and totally unedible IMO. The burgers were 1/8th of an inch thin and burnt like burnt McDonalds burger. 5 of us went into this place on a Sunday evening 2/27/22 and we all got the Giovanni special. Meat seemed like some overcooked plant or soybean based piece of beef. Waitstaff got a pissy, shitty ass attitude when we explained how horrible the sandwich it was. Tough meat. Waited on the food for 35 minutes and when we got it we had cold fries and lukewarm sandwiches. If this place keeps cutting corners, it will go out of our business. Very nice Family owned cafe. Small cozy booths and tables. One waitress was all I saw but she was efficient and the lunch crowd didn't suffer. Menu has the usual appetizers and salads... Do not come here if you're from out of town. The service was not good and it took an hour and a half for us to get a hot dog, a steak and cheese sandwich, and a burger. Ive honestly never spent an hour and 40 minutes at a family restaurant. The excuse was the grill was busy but it must have been busy only for us. People who came in after us had finished their food right as we got the rest of our food (we ordered a pizza at the same time as the other food which came after quite a while of being there) I thought maybe they'd forgotten about us but I have a 1 YEAR OLD who was hungry after being in the car for 3 hours. He had lunch after 12 and snacks so no it was not about me needing to feed him and we arrive at this place around 7. He was also the only baby in there and i was trying to be considerate in keeping him quiet till our food came. Surprised it took over an hour for a hot dog that didn't even come with a bun. Keep in mind the place is small and we were sitting at the first table where we could see in the kitchen. I tried to talk to a manager in the restaurant but no one asked what i was there for so i called. They said there was no manager and didnt offer me when they would be in next. I explained the server we had seemed like she had majority of the tables so i suggested maybe she was a bit overwhelmed and they were not even apologetic. They said she was an excellent server but she did not check on us once. Then the said there was a manager there and put "him" on the phone. THEY HUNG UP ON ME. I was calm on the phone by the way because I've worked in food service and at way busier places might I add. The fact that they were struggling with this amount of people was honestly ridiculous having 2 servers and at least 3 people in the back. There was maybe 10 tables in the place all at once and we were the 3rd or 4th table in there so no we did not come in at the same time. My first time at a Giovannis was 2 days ago in HUNTINGTON WVA. Everything was amazing there so we stoped at this one. Extremely disappointed. I don't typically think this way but I can't help but think if i has something to do with the way i look. I don't know but i don't recommend. We had to food put in boxes and THEY FORGOT the hotdog along with pickles on the sandwich so i had to ask for that. The food was alright, nothing special though compared to the other one. Also the hotdog upset my sons stomach (he's had them before so its not something he needed to get used to). If I had to change anything it would be to lower the prices some, hire more staff and drivers, make the waitresses check on their tables more than what some of them do, take the booths all out and just put regular tables in there that are big enough for a family of 4 or more, make the lighting above the tables brighter and last but least maybe offer more menu items especially on the dessert side.. read more

I just moved back from CA. Saw this place moved locations, closer into town, so I decided to stop by one day. Got the Giovanni Special, which was good and full of flavor, but the bread-to-meat ratio was skewed a bit. I think if they put one more patty of meat on it, it'd be a well-balanced sandwich. The following day I forgot my lunch at home, and I was kinda tired of going to the usual places (KFC, Hardees, etc), so I decided to return to try something else. I got the pepperoni calzone (full-size), and it was huge. Not only was it a big portion, but it was packed full of meat and cheese with minimal oil....actually, besides the oil that was glazed over the bread, it wasn't too messy at all. The side of marinara they give you is homemade, on the sweeter side (my personal favorite), with hearty chunks of tomato and peppers. I couldn't even finish it, so I boxed up the rest and took it to work: One of the best calzones you'll find in Weston besides Ginos. We came here on a whim; two in my party had been here before. The service took a while, but the food was delicious. Great food, and great service! Family owned. We went on a Wednesday night and it was busy! We had yummy fried green tomatoes for an appetizer- the breading was perfect blend of cornmeal and spices. Husband had DELICIOUS pulled pork sandwich that was smoked on site. I had the shrimp that came with yummy hush puppies. We both had the best homemade coleslaw we've had in a restaurant. Don't go. The items shown are not on the menu. The entire meal for two - a sandwich and country fried steak was $35. The sandwich was 3 inches long. There was 2 tablespoons of cottage cheese for $2.95. We could eat in almost any restaurant in Atlanta for less than that. When questioned about the prices, we were told they have good quality food. I've been to Giovanni's twice in the past month. Hadn't been to the new location. Was very disappointed in the service, the food, and the owners attitude both times. I paid with a debit card felt like I was being scrutinized. I didnt leave a tip because it was a take out order. The second time I was there with my family. The owner was going in the door ahead of us, looked back at us, let the door shut in our faces. The owner sat at a table eating veggies while our waitress juggled several tables by herself which means we had no drink refills or asked if we needed anything. We do not fault the waitress. She was clearly working hard. The food came at different times and the food's quality was sub par to say the least. The giovanni sandwich was not hot, the bread was burned, the meat was burned, hardly any cheese or peppers. The fries were cold. The iced tea was fresh and very good. We left the waitress a very good tip. Not her fault. There needed to be two waitresses or perhaps the owner should have stepped in and helped her. It was given back for them to bump up, mind you medium to MW is like 2-3 mins more cook time...10 mins later after family is done again eating steak comes back and is WELL. Again, people who work/ed in the biz, would you charge for her meal? Again they did.... 2 adult sodas, kids drink, cheese stick app(4pc), 12oz rib eye w/ 2 sides, lasagna in boat w/ salad and side, triple bacon cheeseburger (3, 4oz patties)with cheesy bacon fries and kid corn dogs. Total price was $65. I will not eat there again. Food is good but not for the drama or that price.
