My stylist was super nice and put a lot of thought into my hair and what I wanted. My only complaint is that she gave me a 30 minute tour in the beginning so my appointment started 30 mins later than what I expected. the website said that the hair would take 1:15 minutes and instead it took twice as long. The actual haircut experience took very long and the blowout was a little less than what I was expecting. Overall, I can tell they care about their clients but the time management was not great. read more

Consultation was rushed and stylist cut off way too much hair. She kept pushing to do a shampoo, but I kept reiterating I don't want or need it, I just washed my hair this morning. $49 seems way too much for just a plain trim. All I wanted was less than 1 inch off, which has been the case for literally every other trim I've ever had in my life, and it definitely seemed like a full 3 inches was taken off. After taking off so much hair, it didn't look even, but at that point, I didn't even want them to touch my hair and take off even more. Felt like no care or attention was given whatsoever to what I actually wanted. I've been here 3 different times with 3 different stylists and every time, it's been the exact same problem. I thought it was because it was only an apprentice the first time, and then a Level 1, but this time, to shell out more money for a Level 2 stylist and somehow get an even worse cut, I'm done. It's evident that they don't care about essential services such as regular trims for healthy growth. They only seem to care about the higher spending clients who choose to damage their hair with excessive heat and chemical treatments. There's obviously no knowledge here whatsoever of what healthy hair is actually supposed to look like. If all you want is healthy growth, don't waste your time or money here. In what universe does "a trim" somehow turn into 3 inches? Other salons have always done half an inch, maybe an inch at most. Also, pushing people to get a trim every 2 months is insane. Never had an issue before with every 6 months. My hair was not at all unhealthy and my hair did NOT have a full 3 inches of split ends. Every other stylist I've had has said it's exceedingly healthy and never took off nearly that much. Please train your people to actually DISCUSS with the clients before they get right to chopping. It does say on the appointment that it's supposed to be a 15 minute consultation, but it definitely was not. The entire time, I felt rushed and dismissed. I was literally telling her how much I was looking forward to getting an elaborate braid done soon. Now, it looks way too short to do what I was planning. Did my own braid the next day and it looks and feels like months of progress have been thrown in the trash, plus it looks choppy and bad. Thanks a lot. Checked their website for details about their stylists. "Level 2 stylist" Melanie's description says: "If you need help with color correction, modern balayage, or highlights of all types, I especially look forward to working with you!" So... guess they're admitting that they only care about the higher ticket items? Maybe don't bother to "trim" people's hair, then, if all you're going to do is give them a hack job, taking off 3 inches and still not even managing to make it even. I'm genuinely not sure if she did this monstrosity of a hack job out of spite or if she's just insanely incompetent. I deeply regret ever setting foot here. What a joke. So I am going grey, but so what! With all the cool things going on with Hair styles and coloring- I decided to try my crazy plan (lowlights with grey - I'm going for salt and pepper). Called and spoke with Shiloh who set me up with Shawna. Shawna is awesome! We had a consult first and then yesterday, went to start my new hair adventure! From Kris at the front desk, who is nice and pampered me with warm tea refills, to JLo the most impressive shampoo and helper lady to Shawna who's creativity, enthusiasm and skills (mad hairstylist skills) worked wonders with my 3-4 past colored hair and the grey, and let's not forget correcting a past cut and cowlicks-Whew! I had a terrible experience with them. I went in for my second hair cut there. I wasn't happy with my bangs but didn't want to complain. As they have grown out they seem to be even more uneven. I called to get them fixed. They scheduled the appointment. They then called back and said I was beyond the "free fix" time. They don't seem to care about their customers. I was hesitant to leave a negative review cause my haircut was ok (I emphasize ok) even though it took an incredibly long time because my stylist was juggling another lady's highlights and was just generally slow. However, there were some really not ok things about my visit. The main reason I chose Glassdoor Salon was because reviews mentioned private room which I use because I cover my hair with a hijab, according to Islamic tradition. They no longer have a full private room but use a partition. Not perfect but fine. Better than nothing... What really got me was when I was told by my stylist that the reasons they no longer have a private room are because, one- it wasn't bringing in much extra business (valid reason, I suppose) and TWO, that most of the bad reviews for the salon were coming from the private room clients, because I quote- "As you know, Middle Eastern women have a lot of hair." I was so weirded out in that moment and frazzled since I'd been there so long and needed to get back to my baby that it didn't sink in until I got home. Offensive and super not cool invalidating a group of customers' experience and blaming them for poor service because of their hair type!?! Big yuck. I guess I'm just another complainy private room client... Won't be returning. read more

Got my haircut for $49 with a level two artist. She cut my hair completely dry and did not make an effort to part my hair down the middle from the start of the session. She offered to wash my hair but said to dry and style it would be an extra $15. I left the salon with sopping wet hair. read more

So my first time here and I was very happy. The salon itself is great, clean, and everyone is very friendly. Suzanne greeted me and gave me a tour of the salon. Great lady and knowledgeable. I've had a lot going on in the last few months which is extremely stressful which in turn makes me feel like my hair is falling out much more than it should. We went over different options to help stimulate my hair and I believe (hope) between the products and doing my best to de-stress myself my hair will bounce back. I had a lovely head massage with my shampoo from Jlo who took great care on not getting my sweater wet. Suzanne listened to what I was looking to have done and gave me a cut I love and darn near close to the pic of what I showed her. She went through it step by step and showed me how it looked scrunched up if I choose to air dry and then, with my okay, blew out the cut. I have seen Noah for a haircut a few weeks ago, then came back last week for a color service by Tati. Shawna washed & styled my hair, waxed my eyebrows, and I couldn't have loved my experience more. Both visits, I have been made to feel very welcomed. They all seem care about the small details. The salon manager/assistant is very hospitable and attentive. The owner is engaging and friendly. So! Let me tell you how bad my hair was! I had about 5 HUGE tangled knots in it. So bad I was about to cut them out of my long blonde hair. I went there for two reasons: they have private room and Suzanna does a great hair cuts. But I made a stupid mistake and excepted the Advanced Apprentice service because when I called to book appointment they told me suzanna is on sick leave but when I arrived there I saw her at the salon she said I just came back and I don't do private room. Okay I need a hair cut so bad and I thought the apprentice will be good since Suzanna is supervising her. What made me so upset not she took so long to finish her job or the result I got which was ok. but that they asked for extra money for the time I spent there which wasn't my fault, the Advanced Apprentice took sooooo long to cut and blow dry my hair (5 hours ) for medium length hair. how this is something I should pay for it. They didn't say anything about that neither the stylist , and she was working so slowly. I'm her first curly hair client ever I didn't know that too. And when I asked if Suzzana can fix the cut they refused because she don't do private room. They were dishonest with there advertising about how having private room is so great and convenient for who ever want to have a good service at the salon. I'm willing to pay for good quality haircut I wasn't looking for cheap cut though. I got so disappointed going back home after spending half of my day there with bad experience to share with my kids. read more

I never write reviews about honestly anything but I really wanted to bring up the fact that I did not have a good experience here whatsoever. If you go here and are paired up with the beginner hairstylists, you are absolutely wasting your money and I really believe you're also wasting your time. I'm not trying to be so negative but I just blew 150 bucks on a haircut. I could literally going to Walmart and get a better haircut than the one I got today. Not happy and I'm sorry by being negative but the overall experience was not worth coming back. If you go here, you have to pay premium. My 4 year old daughter has very curly hair so I got recommendations from a Facebook moms group and chose this place. The main reason I chose it was because they offer a private room for haircuts if you wear a headscarf or for any other reason, I loved seeing that they offer this. The first time I brought my daughter we saw Suzanna and she was amazing with her. We loved her and did really well cutting the curls. This time around, because of price and availability we saw Mary. How cool. I was telling a friend about where I grew up, where the next-door neighbor "did hair", as they said in those days, i.e., had a salon in her house. That was when I said that I was looking for a place to consistently get my hair "done" (cut/shorn/whatever), and was tired of barber shops. Thanks to Yelp, and its Yelpers, I found this nearby (walking distance) place, which is literally in a garage. (Once you're inside, you don't realize it's a garage, however.) The place is small, of course, with (as I recall) two chairs -- or maybe only one. I provided a minimal amount of guidance ("I'd like my hair to be shorter than it currently is", or words to that effect), and walked out with my best cut in years. And not terribly expensive either, $25 (plus 20% tip), which isn't much beyond the typical barber shops in the area, and apparently better haircuts need to be done less frequently. read more

When Suzanna's previous gig was sold & imploded, she took her scissors and went home. Literally. GDS started in her kitchen, and as of 2015, now has its own space in a converted garage. The space is intimate, bright, and fits like a glove. A chandelier in the bathroom says it all. A very friendly, neighborhood salon awaits behind the white door. Hours vary quite a bit by the day, which makes flexible scheduling easier. Esther is the salon diva. She's a very curious basset hound that spends time in the shop with Suzy and Corinne daily, and can be friendly at times. With a 90/10 F/M client split, this place may remain a hidden gem for good mens cuts and very reasonable rates. I'm happy that GDS is going to be successful, even when that means it'll be more difficult for me to get an appointment. I'll keep sending new folks there until they tell me that they aren't accepting any more clients. read more

In the spirit of full disclosure, one of my friends works there at the front desk. When I told her that I really needed a hair cut, but I needed to find someone new, she told me about Glass Door. Finally, the annoyance of my hair overcame the reluctance of me to just find the time to get my haircut. I live in fear of a bad haircut. Honestly, my experience was just as good as everyone else's. The salon was absolutely beautiful inside - classy and unique but still down to Earth. Megan, the receptionist, is lovely, and my hair stylist, Nancy, was a great listener who cut my hair exactly the way I wanted while still offering her expertise. For months, my boyfriend searched for the right salon/stylist/barber to get his hair cut just the way he wants. This was harder than I thought. It took eight months and several fails. He found about Glass Door Salon while searching for a tailor (Azar Tailoring-AMAZING! ;)) and decided to give a try. He loved it!! So I wanted it too... I walked in and was received by a big smile and a welcoming tone. I was offered a little corner of self-indulgence heaven! This is probably the best hair experience I ever have. Emma was great! The shampooing was so relaxing, and my hair looked amazing!! The lady at the desk, (my apologies for no remembering your name), was so welcoming and sweet. She offered me a coffee, and I was in bliss when she said it was a french press!! (sigh.....) What a magic place!!! My boyfriend is now a regular client, he goes ever 4-6 weeks and treat himself to a "hair-experience" (this what he calls it now). They even sent him a Thank You card for recommending other people. I went to re-shape my pixie cut and walked out the first time in forever with my hair done just the way I wanted! The hair stylist took her time to talk with me about what I wanted and how my hair texture would work with it. And it didn't stop there- we continued to analyze and discuss the process as she was cutting- involving me in whole process from start to finish.
