Oooh this egg ranch is so cute, and the chickens are raised humanely. The store was much bigger than I expected, and it was filled with local giftable items. I bought some delicious honey made from bees in Watsonville, but I wanted to buy 10 other things that I didn't need, like bbq sauce with sh*t in its name for the heck of it, fun tie dye soaps, and chicken plushies! Oh, and of course we bought lots of eggs! My teen HAD to watch the vending machine show ($4) for 16 eggs that is outside the building. It takes crisp $1 bills, but note that these eggs are size MEDIUM, not Large, XL or Jumbo like you'd find in the stores. It wasn't a big deal to us, except when I boiled them for a topping for ramen, and they took way less time than our usual time, which I forgot about because this size was so much smaller! Just fyi. Glaum Egg Ranch is wonderful. Great little store where you can purchase a variety of size eggs (organic or not/ white or brown), plus local sausage, bacon, honey, and other food items. They also have some household and jewelry gifts. When the store isn't open you can bring you crisp dollar bills and purchase eggs from the automatic vending machine. If you have children they will likely love the music and dance shows the animatronic chickens put on. Be sure to bring CRISP bills and some patience as the machine can be a little temperamental. It's all part of the charm. If you are looking for a "farm" experience for your children, this isn't it. I don't think that's a reason to dish the farm. It would be like me expecting to pet cows at the Harris Ranch. It's a working farm and they don't advertise that as part of what the farm offers. read more

I've been to Glaum periodically throughout the last few years. They use to have the large eggs in the vending machine but must've been because of the bird flu I'm assuming it is now the medium eggs...which still isn't bad for $4 but you use to be able to get 18 and at one point 24 eggs. Either way still cool. For now it's just 1 flat per person & I believe inside it was 2 dozen per person? I could be wrong. But it is labeled. Inside you can purchase more eggs and different sizes and colors. The people inside aren't generally the nicest at all times but it's whatever. Good eggs for a good price and can make do with the not so great customer service. The barn is pretty spacious and carry a variety of items: seasoning, meat, candles, egg containers, clothing, etc. read more

When prices were out the roof for eggs, They offered & provided healthy eggs without jumping on the bandwagon of exorbitant prices. Their egg barn is attractive and sells a few other items like local honey and homemade fudge. Their egg barn staff is friendly. Even when prices started to drop, I continue to go to this local business where people are willing to help rather than just focus on profit over community. They even have entertainment with signing chicken puppets at their outside window where you can buy Medium sized eggs after the store closes on Saturday. Very cute for the kids to watch. read more

We went to go see the chickens and how they are fed and their environment. There is a large store in a barn. We were created and then told that there are no chickens to see because they have to "keep them safe" and we were welcome to view a robotic chicken outside . This worries me and tells me these chickens are likely caged up and not free to roam. I won't be back and I won't be buying their eggs just in case. read more

We stopped by Glaum Egg Ranch on a Saturday afternoon. The place was empty, easy to park right in front of the egg vending machine (which closes at 6pm on Saturdays). No people in sight, but there were a lot of deer in the area, just walking around us, minding their own business... we loved it! We brought a couple of empty egg cartons, since we knew they provide a bottom egg tray without any cover. A couple of our dollar bills got rejected, but eventually the machine took 4 of them. We got 16 eggs for $4 (there's a sign explaining the rise in prices, as it used to be 18 eggs for that same price). We enjoyed the show (which still had Halloween decor in November), and it was longer than I expected, but fun and cute. Best part, we made omelets for breakfast a couple days later, and the eggs were delicious! :) read more

Her friend lives in Aptos, think it's a word of mouth kind of place. Went during COVID times, it was just the shop that was open to the public. Well spaced and safe. We did put crisp one dollar bills into the vending machine for 18 eggs at $4. For $4 you get the best chicken show. Made us smile ear to ear. Nothing like eating farm fresh eggs. Fun little diversion when you're down in Aptos. The draw here is the egg vending machine, which mercifully does not disgorge the eggs down a chute one by one (although that would have been more fun, right?). For $4 you get 18 farm-fresh eggs in a tray, and then you are regaled by a mini-animatronic show in the window nearby. Good entertainment for kids and adults alike. I'd recommend bringing empty containers to take your eggs home, as the trays would be a little awkward to carry home. There's also a little gift shop with the typical variety of things you'd expect at a place like this - locally-produced granola and honey, various knickknacks, etc. Prices are about on par with other similar places. A quirky little stop if there ever was one. I mean, a vending machine for eggs! Remember to bring cash and use the machine outside then enjoy the chicken show! It was weirdly fascinating! We even checked out the inside- a spacious store where you can buy local and organic products. Definitely recommend to check this place out if you're driving by this area! (Tip: We got 18 ct eggs- make sure you have somewhere to store them in your car and/or something to secure the eggs because it only comes with the bottom carton. We asked for another one to cover it but wished we had rubber bands or something so I didn't have to hold it in the car until we got to our destination.) read more

Glaum Ranch Eggs was a cool discovery while cruising in the hills above Aptos near Freedom Blvd one weekend. Glaum is the brand we've being buying for years anyway, seeking their eggs at local grocery and specialty foods like New Leaf Community Markets. I have to write this review sooner than I had planned, because my tips posted on the spot wouldn't stick to the board - they don't show on the listing despite my best efforts. It's no use to collect likes from my friends on my feed without anybody else seeing the posts. I've heard of similar vendors in secluded countryside locations in Germany, but haven't seen one myself when traveling back there, until now - and at home, of all places! You see, there is a cool vending machine dispersing eggs in exchange for your four crispy dollar bills. No credit cards needed, nor are they accepted, and best of all, for you geeks out there, no human interaction required. Even though The Barn closes early at 2pm on Saturdays, you can still purchase the eggs from the vending machine until 8pm. Now, I call that convenience! My friend has said she'd go as far as to call it hot, but that would make for all hard boiled eggs (credit to Alicia). I love the concept of vending machine for eggs both amusing and reminiscent of the dot.com era of early 2000s, when eggs.com by mail killed all other tangible startups in one and the same bursting high tech bubble. I love getting my eggs directly from Glaum by the flat and I've been buying Glaum organic eggs at the grocery store for more than 10 years now. But lately all the yolks have been getting paler and paler. I've kept chickens and a diverse and nutritious diet produces beautiful dark yolks. What are you feeding these organic hens?? First time to Glaum Egg Ranch on Fri 11/25/11. We got there late so I didn't get to see the inside of the store, but their egg vendor aka Egg Vending Machine is open Daily 6am-8pm! There's some parking in front of the one egg vending machine. Make sure the Curtain for the show is down before putting in the $3 Bills. No coins or Credit cards allowed for the machine so bring 3 crisp One Dollar Bills. Show will start & eggs will slide out. Show is 2 minutes 13 seconds, so if you miss the beginning because of the eggs you can see it 2 more times! It's cheesy & cute, you can also see it on You Tube. Tip: Bring your own egg cartons. I saved 2 egg cartons because I wanted protection for my eggs. They only have an open flat for the 24 eggs. They also sell organic compost. 1 bag (30lbs) $4; 10+ yards = $25 per yard; 1-9 yards=$30 per yard. Sign said they see free range organic eggs; cage free white eggs; & cage free brown eggs. I saw the Happy Thanksgiving show on Fri 11/25/11 the day after Thanksgiving. They supposedly change it often. I hope to visit at least once a year when I need 2 dozen eggs. Eggs are definitely not fresh or free range. I have raised chickens myself and from my experience fresh free range chickens lay eggs that have healthy yolks that are good color and are strong enough that they don't break easily. read more

My problem with the owner claiming their chickens are not debeaked is that no one, outside of the owners and workers, ever see their chickens. They are cage-free, not pastured, so are in large buildings together. Having worked with a local chicken rescue group I know FIRST HAND that Glaum Egg Ranch will not allow any of their chickens that are being culled (killed, because egg production has dropped off usually) to be rescued. Their chickens never have a chance, even when they don't want them anymore. read more

Overall I was hoping for a much more "chicken" experience than I actually got. I have chickens in my back yard so a large part of the reason I went was to see how a larger operation does things, try to get some ideas. I did not see one live chicken there. I didn't even see a picture of a live chicken. I didn't even hear any clucking. The vending machine is ok but the dancing chickens are pretty cheesy and the carton they give you doesn't have a lid so the eggs are pretty precarious on the way home. I ended up with three stars because it was only $3 for 24 eggs but tempered by the fact that there is no proof of any live chickens in the area. read more

OK. First off, the people are super nice. The chickens are waiting to dance in the CHICKEN SHOW! It is super cute for kids and adults. They change the clothes and decorations per the season. But lets talk eggs. They have the best EGGS ever. I love the flats at the window. The different varieties are sure to meet anyone's budget. I get a variety of sizes and types but no matter what I can guarantee I am getting the best tasting, freshest, and most healthy eggs in town or anywhere. Glaum has the best eggs and the shells are solid and thick. They are not flimsy and breakable like the store bought processed eggs. The Glaum eggs are simply incredible. I dont know if they have them running free outside and happy like we would prefer but I do know they are some good eggs! :) read more

We have gotten our eggs from the vending machine for about 6 months now. We absolutely love it. I'd give it a 4.5/5 stars if I could, but I'll round it up. A few things to know: It used to be $4 for 22 eggs. (About $2.25 per dozen). I had an unpleasant surprise that as of last month, it was switched to $4 for 19 eggs. (About $2.50 a dozen) Still a good deal, but sad that they was no explanation. Wondering if the new laws had something to do with it, although I understand they are already cage free. While I rarely get a cracked egg, it still happens on occasion so now I guess it will be a bit more frustrating. It's a bummer they are not open on Sundays, as it would be perfect timing for my family. But oh well, it is not too far out of our way to go on another day. Almost every time I have gone when nobody is there working, but the last time the window was open and unfortunately I did not find the employee very pleasant. I asked her a few questions but I got pretty snappy responses. Again, oh well. Not enough to affect my patronage. Overall, I still prefer this place over going to a grocery store for eggs. They generally have every type - organic, free range, colors & sizes of eggs in flats and cartons at store prices with a selection of local produced and unusual condiments, sauces, honey, knick knacks and wearables in the new metal barn structure. I drive by for fresh eggs every two weeks on my way from Santa Cruz to Salinas and when friends drop by, we see the singing diorama too. Nice people!!! read more

Went here with our friends from Santa Cruz. They are regulars, and rarely buy their eggs anywhere else. Go there, get your eggs through the vending machine and watch the chicken show, which comes with your purchase. Little kids will love it. Found the staff, to be friendly, hard working group. We would go there all the time if we lived closer. I grew up on a small farm, so we always had fresh eggs, and most of the time they were great, but sometimes not so much. Just writing this, because just like anything else, you may get a set, that is not up to par. When you think about it seriously, most every kind of food is that way. If that bothers you, grow or raise it yourself. BTW, the chickens were performing Boogey Woogey Bugle Boy, the day we we visited.
