However, when I arrived after 1 PM, they were still setting up, lots of empty tables/booths. I did not go for the rides, but it appeared that not one person was on that side. I wanted a Gyro ($12), fries ($5) and Pastitsio ($20) but the latter wasn't going to be ready until later on that day. For dessert I ordered loukoumades (steep price of $20) and galaktoboureko ($7). As we were leaving, some of the games/booths were being set up. The volunteers were very nice, but the "fair" itself was very disappointing.

This is my favorite Long Island Greek Orthodox Cathedral for many reasons. From what I read; the…read moregroundbreaking ceremony took place in the summer of 1957. In 1974, the church paid off its mortgage, which was incredible. St. Paul's also had added a parcel of land that provides access to the church from Hilton Avenue. In addition, the corner house on Cathedral Avenue was bought and is presently for educational purposes. The church architecture and altar are beautifully designed. St Pauls has a brilliant sound when the choir sings. A few years ago, many visited the church to be blessed by the crying Virgina Mary Icon. I was one of the individuals who stood online. First, an icon of the Virgin Mary, shed tears, then the icon of St Nicolas soon after. This is the first time this St. Nicholas Icon has begun to cry. Christos Anesti! As the ONLY one dressed in Greek theme. I definitely stole the show. Large crowd but not over packed. Amazing music, retails areas, delicious food, games and rides(for kids). The band was so so awesome and amazing. Very friendly and they all looked amazing. Great space and very well organized. I chatted to so many people. Everyone there was so friendly.

Much has been written about the church's storied history, and I'm sure there's still lots more to uncover. It was occupied by the British during the Revolutionary War, and if the walls could talk, I'm sure it would have PLENTY to say. I'm not sure if tours are available, but definitely worth checking out if you're in the area, or even making a special trip. Next to the town's "central park," Heckscher Park, and a short walk to eclectic "downtown Huntington," it's definitely worth a visit!!

Mousaka, Pastichio, Tyropita, Spanakopita, Souvlaki, and of course the famous Gyro sandwich. All delicious and freshly made by the best in the business. The dessert's are to die for, my favorite is the Galaktoboureko(custard wrapped in phyllo pastry with an orange essence). Of course there is Baklava, Loukoumades( think of these as Italian Zeppoles), and many others. Parking is at CW Post University and a bus shuttles you back and forth or you may want to walk after eating such great food. Don't forget to visit the vendor's they have many treasures.

But where are all the yia yias?!…read more I usually go to two different Greek Festivals on the Island. One is in West Hempstead, the other is in Hicksville. We just recently heard of this one and decided to give it a go. While easy to get to, the parking is technically over at CW Post. It's only a 5-10 minute walk to the church grounds and there is a shuttle if you're lazy. This festival is much smaller than the others. The food is laid out by what exactly you're getting (one line for salad, another for gyros, etc.). The prices are also a bit steep considering the food just isn't good. The gyro meat was not sliced correctly. The pita was the pita I could buy in Stop & Shop if I was REALLY craving it. The tyropita and spanikopita were both cooked as squares, rather than triangles, which was odd to me. The salad looked okay but lacking. They also have the church basement converted into "Yia Yia's Attic", this is where you can find flea market items and such. I didn't find anything too spectacular. All of the staff weren't Greek either, which was strange considering most of these festivals volunteer church goers to work the weekend. Attached to the basement is a cafe, where they serve some pastries, frappes, and Greek coffee. I passed on the frappe but tried the revani (it was good but the edges were completely burned). They also didn't know what I was asking for when I said it in Greek. This is very kid-friendly and they have a bunch of rides and games setup at the top of the hill. There are a few kiosks with knick knacks and a ring toss. Also a beverage stand where you can get beer, water, and wine. Overall, the prices were a bit extreme for something so boring. No opa here.

Not being a parish member and having visited only once, I take this time to place a 3 star review. It has brightly colored images of glass windows. The Pastor, Senior Reverend John Hopkins speaks and presents very fine and smooth. Above the pews on the next level is an organ. It was played by Henry DeVries the day we visited there; for a special service to honor the life of Mel MacDonald. They have a multi-purpose room in the back which can be used for people to have activities. As in this case, to serve food, drink and share memorable moments on a video screen. They also have a school and multiple sports and boy scout activities as well. I found Kim, one of their office staff to be pleasant and efficient in communicating and responding to my inquiries. If you are searching out the area for a place, you may want to add their website to your list to check out.
