Great little restaurant and store along the Poudre Canyon. We stopped in to the restaurant for lunch and I ordered, the jalapeño poppers as an appetizer. They were nothing special, but good. I than ordered the Chili Rellenos. They were different from any others that I've had. The peppers were stuffed with cheese, but instead of being dipped in a batter, they were wrapped in wonton wraps. They were fried perfect and the refried beans and Mexican rice were seasoned well and delish. The green chili was flavorful and mild in heat. read more

We stayed here in our RV from July 17-22, 2024. My daughter and her husband came with their RV as well and parked next to us. Here is what I know, the resort sold about two weeks prior to our arrival. The employees who stayed under the new owners and the employees the new owners brought in were fantastic! Dean is the new maintenance guy and could not have been nicer. Leah one of the restaurant waitresses was warm and inviting and very friendly. Lois, manager, was friendly, cordial and businesslike. The food in the restaurant was great! My husband particularly liked the french fries. I really liked the way they made their chili rellenos. Lots of variety for breakfast options. It was so nice to have the choice of cooking in our RV or eating in the restaurant. Several guys were fly-fishing in the river, catch and release. They were catching trout. It was fun to watch. The sound of the river was wonderful and the little bridge over to the island tent camping area was a delight. We took that walk almost every day. The new owners are wasting no time. While we were there they were already working on upgrading electrical connections and much more. My guess is the entire resort will be quite different and upgraded by the end of summer. We will definitely stay here again. read more

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad places like these exist for travelers going through remote areas, but this place gouges and takes advantage of that. $14 for a hotdog & fries $18 for a mediocre burger I've eaten here twice & it wasn't amazing. It was slightly above average, but with high end pricing. The service here is always slightly struggling & it takes a few minutes to get someone to your table. Man, I just wish this place were a little better, because I'd frequent it weekly, but I'll waste my gas and go to Ft. Collins for a better meal instead. The general store prices are also terrifying. Visit if you like sticker shock. $5 for a Gatorade. Yikes!!! I saw a small bag of chocolate covered pretzels for $8! Glen Echo - be reasonable! Come on! read more

I booked a tent spot for 8 people (4 adults and 4 kids) and they gave me the most difficult time that we could only have one tent for all of us. So I had to go out and buy an 8-person tent which was pretty annoying but nbd. When I arrived, the woman at the front desk spent 15 minutes checking me in- verifying my name, going over all the rules, giving me a map etc etc. I told her my 3 friends would be arriving later in the day. She said no problem. They gave my first friend who arrived about an hour later the HARDEST time. They told her I (who the reservation was under) had never checked in (?) and almost didn't let her come in to the camp. She had to beg them and was really upset when she finally got to our spot. I thought this was just a one-off weird misunderstanding, until my second friend arrived, equally upset, explaining they put her through the same ordeal. So I went up to the office and asked what the heck was going on and had I been properly checked in? They looked at their computer and said yes I was, and acted like they had no clue what I was talking about when I asked why they yelled at both my friends who said they were there to join me. No apology at all. Very bizarre behavior all around. You work in customer service; when someone says hey, two of my friends are on the verge of tears bc you yelled at them and said I had never checked in...just say sorry? You messed up! There is no cell service here either so my friends couldn't just call me. So be warned that they are just not very intelligent at the front desk. I was also told I got the most 'remote tent site in the whole campground' (T4), and it was not at all. There's 4 other tent spots right on top of u and the island is super small. Zero privacy. This restaurant is part of the Resort, but doesn't come up when searching for restaurants in the area as the previous reviews for the restaurant are hidden under the resort heading. This place is very reliable and well appreciated by us locals. Breakfast is the best, great home fries, excellent green chili, pancakes, scrambles etc. Top notch. Lunch/Dinner also very good although I've mainly stuck with the burgers and fries, both great. You can order a cold draft at the bar and eat dinner. Or you can hit happy hour (3-5pm at last check) for good deals on a cold one. Excellent place to eat well up the canyon. Time to get this gem on the Yelp map! read more

We were out to explore and stumbled into the restaurant at Glen Echo Resort. We were happy with our experience. It was before Memorial Day and place was almost empty. I asked if this was typical and server said no. She said resort was booked through end of May to most of July/August and many times, the restaurant line waiting to get in is out the door. It is an isolated location, so there aren't really any other restaurant choices. They are attached to a small camp-oriented store with a few basic food items, maps, books, camp-type games and a variety of fun souvenirs. Considering how empty it was, we were surprised how long it took to get our food out, but out server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the food items. They do serve alcohol. I got a flatbread pizza and it was the perfect comfort food for me on a cold, rainy day. It came with a wide choice of toppings, lots of cheese and delicious flavor. It was piping hot and obviously individually made, so maybe that why it took a little longer to get our food. Husband got a hamburger that was very large, 1/3 pound I think, and while good, he said he'd wished he'd gotten my pizza. Decor was nice. This place has been located here for a long time, but restaurant burnt down a few years back, so it is fresh and up-to-date. We hope to go back again off-season! read more

Ok, I am not sure why this place has such a bad rating. I think the previous reviewers need to realize where they are.....in the middle of no where. This place was not overrated with a big omelet with hash browns and toasts for $9.99. When you're in the middle of the mountains at a lodge you need to expect to pay a bit of a premium. That being said, the place was still very affordable. There was only one waitress but she did a great job and took care of us really well. Bottom line is, this place is a really good place and definitely a four star. Check it out. It's a fun local place with great food. read more

This stay and restaurant deserves more credit than it's given on this page. The food is on the higher priced side because, it's up the mountain. If you have ever managed anything, you would know how cost works. Same with perfectly fresh food.... If they had to drive down the mountain every morning and open late to have fresher ingredients it would cost more. People need to be more reasonable about mountain service on roads that don't end a ski resorts or big campgrounds. Give them a break. Every time I have eaten here the food is amazing and as expected as well as the service. We have eaten here over the past 3 years and never had bad food or bad service. read more

I have eaten at the restaurant here many times over the years. The food is typical mountain diner food and usually pretty good. A recent experience has soured me a bit though. The restaurant closes their kitchen at 8 pm during the summer. Its one of a very few places where folks can grab a relaxing meal in the area. Myself and four other photographers recently came in at 7:30 pm one evening. All the chairs were stacked on the tables and nightly cleaning was underway. They took our orders but the waitress was irritated to have to serve us. After 45 minutes, barely enough time to finish our meal, we were politely asked to leave. Okay, I understand. They wanted to close up and go home. We interfered with their desire to get out of there, but we didnt walk in with 10 minutes left. We were nice about it and didn't complain. I told the guy who asked us to leave that we planned to eat there again and would try to finish up our work and arrive earlier the next evening. The next evening we did indeed finish up our days work and arrived earlier, shortly after 7pm. We were greeted by the same waitress who was obviously unhappy we were there. The restaurant was busy but there were still open tables. Her demeanor suggested they didn't want to serve us. I suppose we fouled up their plans for getting out early again. I took the group to the closest alternative which was another half hour drive away, Basil at the 181 in Red Feather Lakes, who btw were happy to serve us close to their closing time without blinking an eye. What I got from this experience is they aren't very experienced in operating a restaurant and that providing their regular customers with a pleasent dining experience isn't on their agenda. I've never before eaten at a restaurant who wanted to chase their customers away with open tables available an hour before closing time. If your advertised closing time is 8pm and you want to chase out your customers for interfering with your need to get the heck out early, you don't know how to manage a restaurant. Perhaps they should hire more staff or better train the existing staff to serve your customers without complaint or subjecting diners to a nightly cleaning while still open for service. If you want to close earlier, change your hours and close earlier. I found this quite rude and unprofessional by any measure of restaurant service standards. I will take my photography groups somewhere else in the future when we head in for dinner on evenings after a long day of working in the field. Trying to have a quiet dinner there with my friends turned into a negative experience for all of us. We were not a group of mountain bums, just a small group of older wildlife photographers who generally eat well and tip well. I would recommend Basil in Red Feathers over this place now. Get your act together Glen Echo. You have chased off a steady repeat customer. read more

Not sure what its like saying in the hotel but the restaurant is awful. The food is bland and boring tasting. No fresh ingredients. The waitress was okay, nothing above and beyond. My grandma didn't like her soup of the day, they weren't generous about the serving they gave her, she couldn't even eat half the bowl because it didn't taste good. My supreme nachos were bland and boring, didn't like whatever they did with the ground beef and the canned refried beans was really meh. The cheese was hard and not a melty goodness. Can't believe they charge $12 for that crap. My 14 year old cousin got a blt sandwich and said the bacon was really hard. Can't believe whoever was cooking (I think some old man) can't cook as something as simple as bacon... My 9 year old cousin said her burger was just okay. I asked my cousins what I should rate this place, either 1 or 2 star and they said 1 lol obviously they didn't like it. Never eating at this place again, I would rather take up more time trying to find elsewhere to eat and starve longer then eat there again. Didn't stay long enough to check out the gift shop. Glen Echo is the only place to eat on Hwy 14 between Gould and Mishawaka. This fact has not apparently escaped the owners; as this near-monopoly gives any guests the choice of underwhelming food, indifferent service, and high prices. Not too surprisingly, most people either keep driving, or turn up County Road 69 to the Potbelly. Either option would be a good idea. A few years ago there were three restaurants in the Canyon. Now that there is one, locals stay away in droves. If you stop here for a meal, you'll discover why. read more

I have both stayed and eaten at the Glen Echo Resort, so I have mixed feelings in this review. Let me split this up into 2 portions. Restaurant: 2 stars. Quick version: if you're traveling highway 14 and you're really hungry or you're camping in the canyon and need a place to duck out of the rain for an hour or so, then check out Glen Echo's Restaurant. The staff was very friendly to us and accommodating to our almost 2-year old. And trust me, this is not lost on me. Like many mountain places, though, the service is slow. As for the food, I'd say it's average. I wouldn't expect much from any rural restaurant, so I can't say I was really disappointed by the food. I had a chicken-fried steak that was ok. They ran out of mashed potatoes, so I opted for french fries. My wife had nachos that looked ok but not great. Prices were too high, but also to be expected. It's a resort and it's the only restaurant on Highway 14. Resort: 3 stars. Quick version: quaint cabins in a scenic setting, but a bit overpriced and outdated. We stayed here in the winter for a one-night getaway in their "honeymoon cottage". It was anything but. It was a cute, quaint little cottage that had ample heat and a kitchen, but they didn't leave us any firewood for the wood burning stove (bummer). It was also a tiny cabin with a very bare-bones kitchen that we paid over $100 per night for off-peak rates. We've stayed in B&B's for similar prices and gotten MUCH better accommodations than this. I can't say I would go back here, but if you're a tourist and looking for this sort of thing, you might check it out and be happy. All in all, I guess the best way for me to describe Glen Echo is that "it's there". Nothing spectacular, but also nothing horrible in my opinion. read more

We stumbled on this campground looking for a last minute escape and I will never go back. It felt like a gross mobile home park with the sound of water in the background. The sites are jammed together and the prices are outrageous! The park is run down and very dirty, the store is extremely overpriced and the staff was rude. I was in shopping 15 minutes before close and the cashier was having a conversation with the liquor store cashier in the open loft saying how they hate last minute shoppers and if whoever is in the store doesn't leave by 7:50 they won't let them purchase anything. Looking to camp? Pick Archers down the road or find a random dispersed camping spot..don't pick Glen Echo. read more

We spent a couple nights near this place (Kelly flats) had to grab ice along with a couple simple items totalling 63 dollars, not only is that ridiculously over priced, but they were not friendly by any means, looking at my wife up and down with judging eyes. The following day, we had to get a few gallons of gas to get back down the mountain, and their gas pump was hardly working, but sure did fill up the vehicle without notice totalling 98.47 dollars (I have receipt), they thought it was funny and threw attitude about it. Finally made it back to civilization only to find out that they charged 118.16 for my 98.47 sale and my 63 dollar purchase was charged 81 dollars and some change. I would not recommend this place to nobody due to the fact that they are either racist or discriminate against city folk for whatever reason. All I know is the vibe was way wrong and If I could give them a ¼ of a star I would, but barely. Horrible people! read more

Since my old horse has retired in Livermore, CO we travel in the area on a regular schedule to check up on him. Sometimes, the husband and I make it a play day as well. The husband loves fishing in the Poudre and fall is the best time to fish, so on a beautiful fall day we decided to visit the old boy and then spend the rest of the day fishing. Around lunch time, the husband said he knew there was a place to eat somewhere in the canyon. Glen Echo provides a nice respite for a bite to eat; it is a small river resort which includes cabins, camping, general store, restaurant, lounge, and liquor store. They promote their green chili and I agree it is the best chili in the Canyon; it is the only green chili in the Canyon. Friendly service, A-OK food, and the only place in the Canyon to eat rates 3 stars from me. read more

This place is under new ownership and well worth the drive. We came back two days in a row all the way from Fort Collins, it's that good. Hands down, BEST burger within a 100 mile radius. Hand made, perfectly cooked, crispy fries and onion rings, free toppings included (sautéed mushrooms, onions and jalepenos). Pair that with a fresh draw beer in an icey mug and we were in heaven. Adorable, rustic charm and lovely area gives this place all the more character. Met both of the owners who were friendly, welcoming and genuine. Happy to support a local business and see this place thrive. We will be back time and time again. There are a handful of iffy reviews about this place, but I have to say I did NOT experience any of the things those reviewers posted. My stay was nothing short of an amazing experience! I stayed at the tent campground for two nights, two different sites because of availability, and had great experiences for the duration of my stay. The campsites were clean, quiet and safe. Yes, the sites are a bit close together, but I didn't find that to be a problem because of the way they're staggered and positioned with trees in between, it's just not a problem. Plus, as always, the neighbors camping near us were like-minded, very cool people. The backdrop and general vibe was amazing! The bathroom and shower facilities were clean and always available. Within walking distance on the property is a laundry facility, general store, liquor store, restaurant, and pub. Although I did not eat at the restaurant and therefore cannot speak to the service or food served there, I can say the rest of the one-stop-shopping amenities I had at Glen Echo were perfect. I would highly recommend the campsites at this place and will definitely be staying there again! read more

This was my first time staying. We went in winter so there were no other people around. We stayed in a modern cabin. The bed was comfortable. The cabin had everything needed to cook with and clean with. The staff was super friendly and we even got to meet the new owner, very nice lady. The cabin does have some out dated things, but this is a cabin not a fancy hotel. We were very please and would love to go back again. I would recommend staying here. read more

We would not camp there again. The campsites are so close together that the gooseneck beside us had his pop outs touching our travel trailer awning. The playground is falling apart and littered with trash. There is one bathroom for the entire "resort." The campground is tiny, yet they allow people to ride their ATVs and dune buggies around all day long. The kids just go round and round on them, spinning in circles and kicking up dust. There seem to be a lot of permanent residents there. Not our idea of camping or enjoying nature. read more

READ and PAY ATTENTION to all the negative reviews on Glen Echo "Resort"! I wish I would have done this before making my reservation. The reservation was made June 21, 2017. Due to circumstances had to cancel on July 3, 2017. When doing so I was told by owner, Denise Anderson that they would not refund if I didn't cancel within two weeks. Well it had only been 12 days since I booked so her verbal two week requirement was a mute point. I explained that there are no cancellation policies posted on their website, nobody disclosed this information during the telephone reservation and no email confirmation was sent with this information. Denise said "too bad that is our policy". She did offer to credit the money toward another date but I told her that since my first experience with her was less than desirable, I would not be making another reservation. (Doing so would have only been asking for more of her nasty attitude). She said it didn't matter and she didn't care if I contested the charge on the credit card. The promise of leaving negative reviews or a BBB complaint didn't faze her either. Denise will try her best to hold you hostage if you make a reservation. I have since read reviews about the same attitude with anybody who complains. Some complaints include insects, rodents, obtrusive neighbors, filthy cabins, broken furniture, dirty dishes, extra charges for towels and cleaning, filthy bathrooms, windows that don't open, overcharging, and the list goes on and on. If you want to pay top price for lousy accommodations, nasty attitude from the owner and non-existent customer service, this is your place. If you want the nice setting in the mountains with an owner who appreciates your business and has pride in their business, look elsewhere. Denise Anderson and her Glen Echo "Resort" has earned my lowest recommendation which is much lower than what this web site has available. read more

I was going to give it a 1 star but the new owners were very friendly and welcoming. Bar and food was great. We rented a cabin and all I have to say is thank god it was only for one night and that I brought my own bedding. The cabin had cobwebs everywhere, dead and live bugs/spiders everywhere. Carpet looked like it had not ever been vacuumed. When I removed their bedding there were dead bugs. Worst,dirtiest place I have ever stayed. I know it is supposed to be rustic and old, but does that mean it needs to be dirty too? Maybe the travel trailers you can rent are better? We tried to let the lady at the front desk know our concerns, but she just blew us off. Guess they already had our money so who cared. read more

This place is a true mountain get-a-away. The bar is a rugged little place that provides for all your mountain drinking needs. They've got any drink that you'll need and plenty of good beer all at reasonable prices to boot. The late-night pizza is pretty darn good if you don't make it in time to eat something from their kitchen. Their chicken fried steak and breakfast burrito (covered in green chile salsa) are both very good meals, no matter where you're from. All the reviewers that give this restaurant a bad rap must have unreasonably high standards. The worst part of my truly bad experience at the Glen Echo resort was the resort's failure to enforce their '10PM quiet hours' rule. I was placed in a spot across the street from the 'penthouse' rental and had several people and kids making noise, playing music, and slamming doors until midnight - then had it start up again in the morning. I paid for an additional night, but after such an awful night I packed up and headed home early. Additionally, I was placed next to some kind of maintenance building that had a generator or something going on at various times all night - apparently also an exception to the quiet hours rule. This isn't a 'resort' or a decent place to camp - it's appears to have a lot of permanent or seasonal trailers and clearly has people show up intending on partying. Save on the $36 a night 'camping' fee - use one of the many National Forest campgrounds in the area! read more
