One of the big jobs was getting rid of our ugly 1980s oak cabinets. I had Home Depot come out to quote re-facing. I had another company quote custom cabinetry. Both were close to or way over my entire kitchen remodel budget. When I finally hired a contractor, he told me about Customcraft Painting and Jeff, the owner. My contractor said Jeff can paint over my entire cabinets to make it look French Country (the look I was going for). I couldn't imagine my ugly oak being turned in to a French Country look. I called Jeff and he brought over samples. I'm pretty good with first impressions and I was really impressed with Jeff. He knows his stuff and I just felt really comfortable but bottom line was despite what a nice guy he is, I was concerned about how much this was going to cost me. Imagine how thrilled I was to find out he is VERY reasonable so I hired him. Customcraft Painting was professional from Day 1. They make sure the rest of your home is protected from any dust and they make sure they don't 'inconvenience' you in any way. Communication was wonderful, too. They showed up when they said would. I can not tell you how many compliments I get on my kitchen and the fact that my friends and family can not believe my cabinets are the same oak cabinets. The job we had for Customcraft was to repaint our patio Arbor (shading). The job was done better…read morethan I expected, Jeff really had gone for an extra mile in finishing the paint job! Before the job was even started, I thought this is not a big deal, my son and I could do that over the weekends... but once the job started, I realized this painting job is bigger then repainting a kitchen Cabinet doors! Jeff explained to me, the old paints needed to be stripped, sanded. Not only that, the original installer didn't properly prime the wood and didn't seal any joints, so over the years, some woods were damaged by water and need to be repaired...all these, Jeff was telling me not because asking for more money, but he was telling me what the problems he had found out, and suggested to me what would be the best solutions and options... How I met Fernando: My wife and I bought our house in the year we got married, which meant that our budget for home improvements was... lacking. We did most of our improvements as DIY in order to save some cash. My dad and I went to a local paint store after church one day to get items to paint the outside of our house. There was a line for the cashier, so we waited in line with all the professional painters. One of them calls us out, "you guys are too dressed up to be painters!" We strike up a conversation with him. We ask him for tips and he gives us a run down on how to prep the house. This was how we first met Fernando. Then my dad had an idea, "We should ask him to give us a quote to paint the house!" I reluctantly agree. Sounds like a lot of cash. Fernando comes over, takes a look, and then gives us a quote. I whisper to my dad, "Uh, that's a good price, I think that is how much the materials + paint would cost". Really, it was a good price. Plus, the risk of me falling off a ladder would make my wife very mad. Then I thought, is this guy bonded and licensed? I go to Costco to buy those Kelly-Moore gift cards to paint our house: 69.99 for 100 bucks. My wife and mom tell me, "Call Fernando!" Now, you know the story, I call Fernando, get a quote, then realize I'm better off having him paint. Do yourself a favor and get a quote from Fernando. I should have done this in the first place. Five stars for fair price and attitude!…read more Fernando has painted two houses for us inside. Spent about 1.5 weeks on one and 3 weeks on the other. He truly cares about the end result and works carefully on details that we'd never notice (inside closets, polishing up the hanger bar in the closets, etc). While he may not seem polished on the outside, he is professional, comprehensive and knows the tricks of the trade from more than 20+ years painting. Example: he painted a door to the master bedroom which was actually an outside door with weird glass panels and made it look like a solid wood panel door. He has a really good eye for color, too. He also helped us pick colors and did a better job than the 2 designers we had hired. 1 star minus for some needed touch-ups (which he does without complaint if you notice it) and lengthy conversations about each room. (which are kind of fun as long as you have time). Also, while he speaks flawless english, he has trouble writing/reading english so you need to be patient and clear with written instructions. I paid Hank Garcia $60K to paint the exterior and the interior of my queen anne house in 2018. His…read moreteam did not properly prep any of the existing doors and trim and the paint started failing immediately. I noticed the failing paint while they were still on the job, and had to point out that they actually had to remove the old paint before painting the new. Apparently that was not included in the price of my job. The paint on the back of my house, which I paid around $20K for, shows primer on the edge of the siding all the way down the house. It was not completely painted. Also - the paint started bubbling immediately. I live in the Mission and it is hot here, but my neighbor's paint does not bubble. The front steps also started bubbling and failing immediately. They have had to be repainted. Problem is, Hank's team did not sand or prep the front stairs. They just painted new over the old. I was told by an architect that a paint job of this price should last 20 years, mine in places has had to be repainted after 2 years. Hank's team missed obvious finishing areas around most of our light switches and vents. We paid $1,500 to have them come and correct it, and were disappointed to inspect the areas after his second team left, only to discover multiple areas that had not been corrected. I have reached out to Hank and to my general contractor to remedy the quality of the work, and they said that it was the quality of the paint, which was 100% Benjamin Moore, which I paid a premium to use. So you yelpers know, if you have a quality issue with Hank, it is the paint's fault. I am posting one picture of my $60K paint job, and there is more where that came from if you want to ping me directly. Hank you should have just fixed the work that I paid you to do.
