We had originally planned to delay the full exterior repaint until spring (I was going to touch up some areas with exposed wood to protect them from the winter). But, when Rolling Sea did such a great job with an interior room, we decided to have them paint the outside now. We're glad we did. They were professional, accommodating as we made some small changes to colors once they painted some sample areas so we could see the colors on the surface, cleaned up thoroughly when they were done, did a very thorough job preparing the surfaces (and there was a lot of prep work needed!). I honestly can't understand how this company has so many glowing 5-star reviews. After my experience, I can only assume a lot of them are either fake/bot reviews or written immediately after the job when everything still looked okay for the low price they quote. Give it a year, and the truth comes out. The paint job on my house was an absolute disaster from the start--sloppy prep, visible brush/roller marks, drips everywhere, and edges that weren't even cut in properly. A year later the paint is peeling, bubbling, and literally falling off in sheets. I bought a home that the previous owner had this company paint right before selling, so I tracked Juan down myself and paid him again to "fix" the issues. He came out, did a half-hearted spot repair, and then blamed the peeling on "fog" like that's a legitimate excuse in the Bay Area. Total cop-out. The work is cheap for a reason: it's low-quality and doesn't last. Juan knows the job was bad--he admitted as much when I showed him the peeling--but he still took my money for the redo and it failed again months later. Complete waste of time and money. Do yourself a favor and spend a little more to hire someone who actually stands behind their work. I regret ever dealing with this company--twice--and I'm now stuck paying someone else to strip and repaint everything correctly. Avoid at all costs. read more

OMG, what an amazing team of house painters!! The exterior of our house needed a new coat of paint after 10 years of exposure to sun and rain. There were gaps between the wood panels and cracks in joints all over. We also had previous dry rot repairs that weren't painted with match colors. So, it was time to spend big bucks for another 10+ years of protection from elements! We also recently installed new fences on one side of the property (see my Yelp review for Super-Builders) that needed staining to match the other side. I submitted my request thru Yelp and received several bids. Rolling Sea Painting gave me a detailed work plan and a very reasonable price. They were not the lowest price, but they had the best reviews on Yelp among the bidding companies. I selected Rolling Sea because I really enjoyed their professional attitudes when I met Sam for the estimate and Juan (online) to clarify the work plan details. But, that was nothing when compared with the pleasure I had working with their painting team! Their amazing foreman, Axel, was everything you can ask for in a contractor! He kept me informed of the progress. We did regular walk thru of the work and everything I pointed out was actioned on and completed! On the final walk thru on the last day, I couldn't find anything that needed fixing! What a pleasure!! Look no further if you're looking for house painter! I have had a difficult time writing this review, and waited almost 2 months to make sure that I leave a fair evaluation of my experience with Rolling Sea. I suppose what made this difficult to write is that, during my experience with this company, I broke several guidelines that I set for myself years ago when I first started dealing with subcontractors. I met with Juan on Nov 20th to request an estimate for a 2 room (200sqft) basement remodel. The drywallers left a Level 5 (flat) new wall, and I wanted Juan to come in for prep & minor repairs on existing wall, primer/paint, and installing casing/trim. I provide this scope of work to each company (5 total) that came to bid my job, and requested that they quote the casing/trim as a separate line item so I could evaluate the price and decide if I wanted to install myself. After explaining the job, Juan agreed to do the work and quoted me on the spot at $2,400. I asked him to provide me a written quote via email. Juan stated that he "didn't come out this morning to loose the job" and would do it for $2,200 provided I agree on the spot. This is the first red flag, however I mistakenly ignored it and agreed to have the work done. Before they left, I confirmed that this price included installation of 3" flat baseboard & door casings. I also confirmed that they would complete the primer coat, and give me about a week to install flooring before returning to install said baseboard & casing. They arrived 30 mins late on the day they were scheduled to start work, which was disappointing, but they would not need the full day regardless. I paid the $700 down deposit, the first coat was sprayed and the crew left. I went to inspect the job a few hours later and noticed that they had done little to no prep work - existing walls & doors were not sanded and several holes were not calked. Expecting to bring it up when they returned for paint, I did not bring it up since the crew had left. Fast forward a week and I had installed the flooring. I contact Juan to come install the baseboard & casing, and he refuses to do the work, claiming that he never agreed to. We argue back and forth, but without written documentation I knew it was a loosing argument, so I ask him to re-bid the job since his quote of $2,200 was $1,000 more than his competition who chose not to bid the baseboard & casing. Juan re-bid at $2,000 and told me that the other prices are "impossible". I ultimately hired another company, who did the work at $1,100. They had to re-do the prep & primer, so the only value I got from Rolling Sea was meeting Juan in my home, to be pressured into buying a service he later refused to provide. Thankfully, even with hiring another company to complete the work and re-doing the work done by Rolling Sea, I still saved $200 over their lowest bid. tl;dr - Rolling Sea agreed to a scope of work for a completive price, but later refused to complete all the work. They were substantially more expensive than their next closest competitor and engage in unscrupulous business practices. read more

They took the proper COVID precautions and were very thorough and careful throughout the process. They carefully moved my furniture and covered it, along with my floors, to keep everything protected throughout the painting process, and they cleaned up my place and wiped down all surfaces when they finished up. We hired Rolling Sea Painting to paint the interior of our four bedroom two story home and are very glad we did. They came in about mid-way between the lowest and highest bids we received. Working with Juan was wonderful in getting the job scheduled at the best time for us, and he kept in touch daily during the work to inform us of progress and any changes in the start time (they wound up finishing a day early). The work team was wonderful - with particular thanks to Axel and Sam. They were careful in moving, covering and taping windows, covering floors, and then cleaning up thoroughly at the end of each day. Our windows have divided lites, and so there was a lot of prep work before they could work. Not a drop of paint on the windows. The crew worked efficiently yet carefully and at the end when we did a walk through there were only a few minor issues which were taken care of right away. We did have a concern at the very beginning with the trim color they had chosen to match the existing color. This is where Rolling Sea really shined! Instead of trying to convince us that the color was right, they stopped the work, listened to our concerns, tried a few different colors in several different locations with different lighting conditions and got it right! What a wonderful experience to feel listened to and well cared for. Lastly, there was a small area of chipped paint and slightly broken wood siding on the exterior of our house. I asked them to provide a quote for this extra work, and Sam went ahead and fixed it without charge. 5 stars for Juan (owner) and his crew at Rolling Sea Painting. We moved into a house over 5 years ago and felt it was time to repaint the entire exterior of our house. I cannot say enough good things about Juan and RSP; I consider them the gold standard now, especially with communication. We contacted a few companies to come out to the house, do a quick survey, and provide an estimate. Juan answered the phone almost immediately and we coordinated a time which was two days later. He had to delay by a day, but texted immediately and kept in contact, confirming the appointment, and then letting me know he was "on his way". During the initial visit, we chatted a little bit, he asked about paint colors, and suggested a few things here and there. Two days later, received his full estimate via email and text. He was mid-range, not cheapest, but by far not the most expensive. He told me that if we went with his estimate, he would throw in a few extras like repainting our metal handrails, etc (and he lived up to that). After signing the contract, which we did in-person, on-paper counter-signed, we talked about paint color. We already had an idea of what we were going to do with colors, so it was easy. As a quick aside, the only improvement opportunity for us would have been for Juan and his team to go through a full color consultation instead of agreeing to what we wanted, given his experience. A few days later, I get a call from Juan. He's at the paint store, and wants to confirm what we talked about. 20 minutes later, his crew rolls up pre-planned and put some big swatches of color on our house to test. After we picked colors and set a starting date (which was a month later - we were totally fine with this schedule, he told us in advance he couldn't get to our project for 1-2 months initially), we just waited. A few days before our scheduled date, Juan texts us to confirm that he'll be there. Sure enough, that scheduled day, Juan texts me first thing in the morning to let me know he was on his way. Then the usual process: 1.) Crew spends one day power-washing the entire house INCLUDING WASHING OUR WINDOWS!!!! YAY!. Since it was warm but not hot out, he suggested we wait an entire week to let it dry. 2.) Next week, crew comes by and starts to set up. Spends a few days stucco-patching, changing out exterior attic vents (an additional fee), and patching holes here and there. 3.) Following day, our house is covered in plastic. 4.) For the next 3-4 days, the crew is painting. No issues whatsoever. 5.) After the project is completed, Juan and his crew cleaned up everything. Again, no issues. I want to emphasize that Juan texted me on a daily basis, letting me know updates, when the crew would return, if there were any additional issues or decisions that would need to be made, etc. He even texted me over the weekend to let me know what to expect. In the end, we love our new house colors. Many compliments from people on our block. A few neighbors even came out one day to get Juan's business cards. In Summary: Juan is amazing; great communicator; he and his crew do a fabulous job; very timely; last minute switches accommodated; very respectful, and very professional.
