Back again at the Glen Park Public Library. Things kind of changed since my last review. Although most of my reading content is more on the audio and digital side it is also good to grab a paperback or paper magazine and read different subjects from time to time . They have good magazine selection . You also have people double it as a remote office space ( Like the Founder of the Silk Road did before he got caught) but silence is always appreciated or the Librarians will let you know. This place has good workshops on different topics including art and culture . They also meet here for Shut up & Write group. There is a movie club for grown ups which will feature the film " Party Girl" next month. A good overall community based San Francisco Library. Consistent with improvements. What a sweet little neighborhood library! Being a short walk from my daughter's home, it's a great place to take the little grandkids on a rainy day. The children's area is fun for them - the 5 yo currently especially loves the "read to me" audio books and they have a nice selection. Although we've never gone to any of the children's programs, they appear to offer something for various kids ages. There is a separate children's playroom where the librarians sometimes have activities/crafts set-up for the kids which is wonderful as well. The librarians are friendly and helpful. The space is light-filled, airy and a peaceful space to get lost in a book. read more

No chairs for people with bigger bodies where someone can sit and work at a table. Very unusable for people who do not fit into chairs with arms welded to the side. Let's be clear, I am able to easily fit into airplane seats so the fact that these chairs literally dig into my body was disturbing to me. You have to be less than a size 8-10 women to be able to use this library. Completely unnecessary. read more

TL;DR cute little library tucked away right next to Glen Park BART station Glen Park library is easy to miss if you're just walking by. They have double glass doors that look like they lead to no where, but there are stairs on the right that lead you up. The library has a small kids space, and a pretty decent teen/adult area. The children's area gets pretty loud sometimes, but you can move towards the other side of the library where it's quieter. If you ever need any help finding a book or anything else, the librarians here are so sweet and helpful. I lost my library card and she helped me replace my old card :') read more

San Francisco Public Library Glen Park Branch is a two level branch and it is more spacious than their original Chenery St location. I do like that there is a staircase and an elevator which is definitely one of the helpful and useful amenities. It is located within a short walking distance from Glen Park BART Station. Similar to other libraries, I'd just come in to browse on the selection of books available, if the book I am looking for is not available then I can always request the book to be delivered to Glen Park from the Main Branch. If you firmly believe that it is easier for you to complete homework assignments, projects and research papers or you want to study for a midterm or final exam, then this is what the library is for. Quiet study time at the library is a good way to concentrate on any homework assignment. I practically come in to complete homework assignments or study for midterms and final exams when I firmly believe that I would get distracted at home very easily. The libraries are like a second home to many high school and college students in particular. Need a document to printed/xeroxed? The xerox machines now have a part where you can plug in your flash drive, scan the document and save it to a flash drive or print it out directly from your flash drive! Just follow the directions on the screen of the xerox machine! If you need a copy/print card, there is a machine where you can get or add value to a copy/print card using cash or credit/debit card. You'll get a receipt for your transaction in the end! Everything I've mentioned in my first review and my update are all pluses! However, there are some minuses and this location is open at 10am on Monday & Tuesday, 12pm on Wednesday, 1pm on Thursday, Friday & Saturday! Seriously? Day (s) off work? Plan on spending the entire weekend homeworking and studying? Looking for a quiet place for all this? Then come to Glen Park Branch of San Francisco Public Library. The other down side is that they are closed on Sunday! Nice spot for a library whether you are passing by or live in the area! Friendly staff members! read more

This is a cute little library. It isn't quite of the same caliber as the main one near Civic Center, but I actually like it more. It's quieter, you can browse more because it's smaller and there's less people. It really reminds me of the Marina District's Library in size and cleanliness plus it's really well located being just down the block from BART. This makes is super easy to swing by and drop off/pick up a book for the day on your way to work. Great little library if you live in the area. read more

I love books. I love libraries. When I was little, my mom would bring my sister and i to our local library as a "treat." When I moved to the area one of the first things I did was find the closest library. I love that this library is a five to six block walk from my apartment. The building looks fairly new and the interior looks as though it's been remodeled in the last 8-10 years. It doesn't have the funky odor one associates with older libraries so that's a big plus. It's on the small side, but every time I've put something on hold it comes in way, way, way faster than the website says it will. Yay! If you have tweens and teenagers or you are just young at heart, they have a fairly large young adult section. read more

Only across the street from the Glen Park BART station. Be careful when reserving a computer/laptop here. My mom made a reservation for 11am one Sunday. She arrives at the library 10 minutes before her reservation and discovers that they don't open til 1pm! Their reservation system does NOT coincide with the library schedule so check the library's hours prior to booking so you don't waste your time like my mom had. Besides that, it's a decent neighborhood library where she takes my little girl for some book reading and burrowing of children's music and DVDs. read more

Like the other SF Public Libraries the Glen Park location is useful and clean. A decent selection of books. What they do not have they can bring in from other branches. This reflects the smaller size of the location. While ordering can be a pain if you need the book quickly I have found the wait time is usually only a day or two. The Glen Park is usually quite and good for study work.However, the hours of operation for this branch are different than some of the other branches. Opening anywhere from 1-3 hours later in the morning and closing 2 hours earlier. Plan your time accordingly. A copy machine is available to duplicate what you need. Accessible for people with kids or people in wheelchairs. Plenty of internet access with computers on site and wireless for people who bring their own device. Lots of outlets for power. Close to public transportation of all kinds. Close to a few good coffee places like Bello Coffee & Tea. Something else I recently found out For those people who follow courts and crime to real-life places. This branch is the arrest location for Ross William Ulbricht who is a staffers associated with the Silk Road online black market site. Obviously neither the Glen Park Branch Library nor the City of San Francisco would be involved. Just an interesting topic. A quick internet search will tell you more if interested. read more

When you are a poor graduate student looking for a place to work on your thesis outside of your home for FREE, where does one go?! The public library, of course. But WWHHYYY?! 1.) Free internet. 2.) No pressure to buy anything (i.e., coffee, tea, pastry). 3.) Outlets galore. 4.) Peace and quiet. PLUSES: + Super friendly staff. Even one that will poke fun at you for not using your library card for four years. Oops. + The new books section actually carries new-ish books (i.e., books that are still on the NY Times Bestseller list). + Decent sized. + Wheelchair accessible. + Wheelchair accessible bathroom. + Kiddie changing table in the bathroom. + I always, always, always find a spot to sit. + Conveniently located across from Glen Park BART, away from busy-ness. You won't have to fight hipsters off a seat. MINUSES: - Limited open hours. Seriously, how are you going to open at 1pm Thurs-Sat?! That's just rude. - Not open on Sunday. - Meh to the DVD and CD selection. Don't bother canceling your Netflix account. P.S. As I have made this library my home away from home in the past two weeks, I have noticed the "regulars." And these library regulars wait for the library to open up at the nearby coffeeshop. Fairly new library with great facilities. The location is ideal; just across the street from the Glen Park BART station. Decent operating hours and a book drop out front. For a small, neighborhood library this is ideal. Decent selection of books new and old with loads of DVDs and CDs. I'm also very excited to see droves of kids anytime i enter. The new location of this SFPL branch is really great. Bright and spacious, it holds the requisite books, computers, magazines, etc that are standard in most libraries. For kind of a small branch, it has a great variety of materials. I'm partial to the graphic novel section along the wall, I discover great new books every time I come here. The hours aren't as good as the other branches, especially since it's closed on Sundays and Mondays, but it also tends not to be as crowded as other branches during the week. While I'm closer to other branches, I prefer this branch overall. read more

I really enjoy coming here after reading one of my fellow friend's review about this library. In fact, I'm at the library right now, using one of their computers in the Teen section! The books here (for Teens/Young Adult) are pretty new and updated. The manga... not so much (not to my taste); it looks very clustered since there are a lot. There's a large selection of dvds and music (at least, to me). The modern look gives it a nice feel and touch. The people here seem pretty chill too. I love the little benches by the windows. I wish I could sit there forever and just gaze out the window. Plus the library's location is very lovely and convienent too. There's a BART Station just across the street. A Citi bank is located right on the corner of the street too. Little cafes and shops surround the area giving a chill but upscale feel. I think it'll be hard to find parking here. I will most def come back to check out more books or to just relax. read more

Glen Park Branch Library - Libraries Near Me - San Francisco, California

Honestly.. I'm a sucker for hipster cafes, but when I need fast, reliable wifi with outlets, libraries are the way to go. Glen park branch is one of my favorite libraries to study at. It's located right above Canyon Market on the second floor. They have two tables in the youth area, and three/four more tables in the back by the windows. I've never had a problem finding a seat, and there are plenty of outlets to use. Lighting is bright and they turn on the central air. Bring a jacket, as it can get a little cold sitting there. The size of the library is on the smaller side, but they do have a good selection of audio, DVDs, new books, etc. They section off a small area for children's books by the back corner. If you're lucky, you might even catch an arts and crafts class held in the separate room! I made a tote last time with the instructor, and they provided all the materials free of cost. Definitely something to look into if you like these kind of activities. Overall a great place to study and get your work done. I really wish they can extend their opening hours! read more

My favorite library to go to in the city. Not too many people know about it so it is usually easy to find a table to study. The library is smaller than most public libraries but it is super clean and still very new! It is usually pretty quiet because most people who go there are the elderly or students who go there to study. However, there is a play area for kids and a classroom where kids often go to so it usually gets a little louder towards the end of the day. What I also like about the library is the area itself. It is in the vicinity of many restaurants, coffee shop, and a market in case you're hungry! Also, super close to the freeway and Bart station as well as plenty of meter and 2 hr parking. read more

Good library, terrible hours. I feel like it's never open when I want to go. I get that libraries are not well funded but it's frustrating. 1-5 on Sunday, 1-6 Saturday? Couldn't they at least open at 11 on one weekend day? My old neighborhood library (Potrero Hill) started opening at 10 on Saturdays and it made all the difference. Hours aside, this is a better library than Potrero in terms of book catalog. The kids section in particular is really good. It's a lot bigger than Potrero's was, and I enjoy sitting there looking for things to read. Libraries are the fundament of civilization. This is a really nice, clean library. In the small town I'm from, the library is a de facto homeless shelter, and just generally feels grimy. I was pleasantly surprised to find the restroom very clean and well maintained. So, work on my computer all day here, or in the coffee shop next door? Ever since I was in elementary just a few blocks away...I'd visit the glen park branch back when it was in its old spot on Diamond St.( the current Bird and Beckett). Since 2007, I always visit the Glen Park Library on a weekly basis. Now as a working adult, walking the 20 minutes to get to this library is comforting and relaxing as it takes me back to my childhood visits. This location is organized and with a large selection of books MANY CDs and DVDs/bluerays. Their materials are easy to locate and everything is very well-labeled. They have the new items shelved bear the entry way so it's easy to browse and see what's new! This is a nice place to bring small children as their children's section is probably my favorite part of the library. It has a nice reading area for toddlers and the shelves are children's heights so even they can have a fun time browsing! I enjoy looking for books to read with my niece and nephew and usually walk away with something special. There's a vast YA section for the school kids in the area and lots of adult fiction for the older readers too. I recommend their travel and cookbooks sections --those are so fun to browse through to get my wheels turning. There's something special about holding a book nowadays, especially with the rise in Ereaders so come visit and get lost in a book :) read more

It's quiet, clean, and smells good. Yes, that actually matters when you are trying to read or study, trust me. Have you been to SF Main? Enough said. Although the main library has some amazing resources, the overall building has some of the most yucky bathroom stalls. Ewww. The selection at this branch definitely reflects of the type of folks in the neighborhood. If you have kids, it's great. Nice place but it's not for those who want to look at more scholarly texts. It definitely is a neighborhood library. The GP branch definitely makes me want to go to all of the branches and look at some ethnography of libraries. You know, to prove the point that library selection is contingent upon the types of individuals that frequent the library. I mean, I've never seen such a big 'large format' section in a library. Not a bad thing, just interesting. Also, as I already mentioned, the kids selection is immense at the GP branch. Overall, when I popped in on a weekday morning, I found it to be pleasant but keep in mind, you only have 30 minutes on the computer and you need to enter your library card and pin to use them, which is smart. You want to prevent computer hogging! Besides, most people have laptops and just bring them in to study or write. I'll definitely return if I need a place that will force me to work on my writing! read more

I love the new GP library. This part of town keeps getting better and better and the Library hasn't let us down! ;) This place is always full of bright, smiling children. I'm amazed at how quiet it is. The hold shelves are easily accessible, pretty straight-forward, and the self-check stations are a breeze. This branch makes it easy to find what you're looking for--and I like that. The staff are friendly, mostly the same staff as before. This branch has a great selection of language books compared to other branches I've visited. It's easily accessible to BART and is near the Canyon Market, and Wells Fargo, Bank of America and Citibank ATMS. Yay for GP! read more

I've been to this library a few times now. They have quite an extensive movie collection (including Bollywood flicks) which surprised me. I have a Netflix subscription, but this was a cool addition to the library. The Glen Park library is the closest copier to my home on Monterey Blvd. I was working on consolidating my cookbooks and this was a quiet and cheap place to get it done at. The staff is really friendly and helpful to newbies and the folks visiting aren't weird or scary like at the main branch. read more

I always find parking here. Its easier to find and i'm inbetween 2, kind of 3 sf libraries. Great thing is you can pick and choose your dvd or book online...put it on request and they'll send it to the building library of your choice. FOR FREE! I mean, you can't go wrong, other than lose or keep the book and get charged. I haven't had too much of a problem. Once and a while, a popular dvd might be scuffed up or damaged because someone is UNCARING about the FREE PRODUCTS the SFPL.ORG provides FOR ALL OF US...FOR FREE!!! Super convenient for me, I can hop off at GP Bart, hit the library for free movies and books, then stop by Bello for the best coffee and back on Bart to go one more stop. Up until a couple months ago, I would just buy whatever books I needed for my research (I am a graduate student), or that I wanted (I am a huge book worm). Then, like most people I know, my 401(K) became valueless, and I had to begin saving every cent I had (all over again). Enter the Glen Park branch of the library. I LOVE IT. I go on-line, order what books I want, and, usually within a couple of days, I can roll over to the the library and pick them up. The library itself is totally clean and new. The staff is overall really friendly, and always laugh at my strange assortment of books. I would totally suggest that EVERYONE get a library card, and start using it! read more

The only thing I like about this library is its location. It's a 2-5 minute drive from my house. I like how clean it is as well. What I don't like is that they aren't very helpful. I know how to find a book in the library since I religiously go to the library (in Sacramento but I've gone to the Excelsior/Main Library a lot before I moved) but my gawd, coming to this branch.. their setup is just awful! I was searching for a fashion design book that had the call number, so I checked in that section and I asked a worker if that was their only section for that category. She said yes, and she knew I was struggling as I circulated the same shelves over and over, which caused me to get frustrated. I knew it couldn't have been there because it was only fiction books located there.. so while my boyfriend looked it up again on the catalog, I was looking at the shelves nearby that had NO name saying what books were located there, so I just started looking at the call number just hoping that it MIGHT be there. No luck. I finally asked another worker for help, and she was really helpful. She told me that since they don't have a lot of categories, they put some call number books in the same shelves despite the category. And where'd she take me to? The place I was looking while my boyfriend looked at the catalog. It's either I was blind or the book was incorrectly placed by number. I guess it was just a bad first time but I do plan on spending most of my time at libraries since I moved back and the library is pretty much my second home. I just don't like their library hours.. they open late and close early.. makes no sense but whatever. read more
