This library was very clean and organized. It was easy to find my book I placed on hold for pick up on the pick up shelf. There is a children's area and a teens area. There are computers for public use. The librarians were really nice and helped me find what I was looking for. A big fan of this library! It's small but has a decent collection of reading material ranging from various genres. I also love that they have a large section for non-English books to cater to the diverse demographic of the neighborhood! But with the size of the library, the stock is pretty limited. Getting a library card here is such a simple task and you can get yours within a few minutes. The staff is also very helpful in assisting with completing the application. There's several tables and computers available, so it's a great spot to get some work or reading done. Do note they have an outdoor area if you prefer a different atmosphere to read in. Plus, there's a cool life-sized chess board there! I love coming here to grab reading materials! read more

Outside of the library was a sign stating "More than a quarter of US households don't have a computer with an internet connection." This area has a large Asian population & fittingly the Ingleside Branch library has an entire large book shelf filled w/ Manga Comics. They are a small library that covers one single floor. They had a section of Chinese Fiction books in Chinese. There is a small children's section. They had DVDs in English yet also in many other languages including Filipino, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, & Vietnamese. I appreciated the DVD selection of English language titles & found the documentary "Bob and the Monster" A documentary film about the life of Bob Forrest of Thelonious Monster w/ cameos by the Red Hot Chili Peppers & Jane's Addiction. read more

It's a nice, clean library that looks relatively recently remodeled. I'm glad to see they provide a good amount of tables and seats for people to sit and read. The ceiling right at the center of the building has a sun roof providing good lighting. This library also has separate sections for kids and teens, which I like. One thing that I don't really like is they don't seem to let kids scream out loud here, which is totally the opposite of how any library should be. Other than that, I like it. read more

The San Francisco Public Library Branch Renovations are providing the best resources the city has to offer. Overall, the new facility is clean and modern. Oh yeah, I also like the fact that there are computers available and laptop rental for library use only is an amenity that is available as well. Additionally, there are also plugs and outlets for patrons to plug in the charger for their laptops, mp3s and smartphones to use it while charging the battery. The two amenities mentioned are certainly something that makes public library services even better. The library is settled in a very good location since it serves students from City College of San Francisco Main Campus and Archbishop Riordan High School very well. I came here with the poppa since I was trying to distract myself from a restless mind. The library is not marked very well and we initially drove past it trying to find it. Luckily iPhone to the rescue and I pinpoint our location, search "library," and voilà, address and success. The library is small inside. I took advantage of the ample metered parking in front of Mc Donald's to check out the library for a few. I avoided the opening day black party. The library is a 6,000 square foot one story building with lots of natural light provided via windows and atrium. There is a little garden in the center. There is a teen room and children's room. There is also a public meeting room for community use. Self-checkout machines and bathrooms. I like the selection of DVD's. I saw quite a few TV, Showtime and HBO series to watch. I liked the music CD selection and checked out a few things. I liked the magazine selection ..I will be back on foot to spend some time reading. There is also free wireless (WI-FI) access to the Internet. I used to go to the original 387 Ashton location. That was small. It had also been in that location since 1925. When so many other cities and states are cutting and closing libraries I am glad in San Francisco we are opening and renovating. read more

I tried dropping in on a Saturday afternoon and the place is packed! The library itself is kind of small but has a decent amount of books. The environment was pretty lively, more than I expected. Although quiet, the kids corner was pretty full and almost all the table space was taken. There was also a movie for the kids in the multipurpose room. Pretty convenient to park in the surrounding neighborhood. It's also right off the KT line and nearby TONS of restaurants. I was disappointed that I couldn't find some work space but am happy to see my tax dollars at work. read more

The place to go to escape an be entertained by the world of fantasy, scifi, horror, suspense, romance, etc. Libraries are cool and getting to one often is very healthy. Finding a book that you can get lost in is always a great escape from the other goings on in the world. This library in particular is very nice. While the size is rather small it offers a decent amount of books to choose from. Staff is friendly here and seem to be willing to assist if there is a need. read more

The books are checked out Silence is boring and so I wrote a haiku The Ingleside branch reminds me that I will continue to be dissatisfied with what I perceive as reality if I insist on comparing that "reality" to the ideals manufactured in my imagination. I associate libraries with dark woods, rickety ladders, dust-covered texts, dim lighting, and mousy women with glasses. In truth, the closest I've come to a library fitting my description was when I was caught in the frustration of the game Myst, which I played on my Mac Performa before the thing began to stutter and eventually became a nuisance. But somehow, despite the absence of a musky place to read a novel for hours on end, I still walk in to libraries hoping to be bombarded with charm, instead of blinded by fluorescent lighting and irritated by sniffling teenagers during the height of the flu season. I have had bad luck with finding what I'm looking for and would be reluctant to take a minute with it if I did happen upon it, due to the lack of comfortable seating and space. In the event that I do end up checking out a book, I will be thankful that this branch is close to my house, as I, without fail, never bring the materials back on time and always end up having to cough up the change. read more

Adequate but for the good of the public! I'm sorry to have to rate a public library as thus, but at least I'm being honest. Given that it is a public library, I would have given it a 5 star rating, but the somewhat lack of materials plus the desks that are of the picnic variety (the legs can be folded away for storage and every time I typed or the other person typed, the table would move ever so slightly) not to mention the lack of plugs other than the ones hidden in the floor. Positives, is that this one has a good open schedule of hours: Sun 1-5* M Closed Tu 10-6 W 12-8 Th1-7 F 1-6 Sat 1-6 The layout of this library is typical, but lacking in books. The literature section was only one shelf. Wi-Fi, however, is free. But, I'm not complaining. I'm all about public access and books/educational materials for the public. In spite of the grey clouds that resulted from the thunder last night, a good crowd came out and Mayor Newsom gave a speech. I am so proud to see my neighborhood moving in a more modern direction, and the new location is airy and spacious (unlike the Bank of America location). Cool building, good addition to the 'hood... but it does suck if you go to a library and can't find a single place to sit. The desk/chair real estate market in this library is very tight. Loudmouth high school kids and the indigent make up a large percentage of occupants. Again.. I do wish there was a bit more space... when you walk into here you will immediately be surprised by how small the place is. I walked around the perimeter thinking I was missing a room or staircase or something. Their hours aren't all too extensive either... but hey... cutbacks are hitting libraries everywhere. read more

Went to the grand opening of the *new* library this weekend. Very well thought out, and designed specifically for the local community. Lots of teen and kids' books, plus a big section of Chinese/Mandarin books and periodicals. I personally would like a beefier adult fiction and non-fiction section, but it is certainly adequate for a local library. I saw plenty of books and periodicals of interest to me, to keep me reading for a long time. Local libraries are not meant to be major research institutions... this is where I will stop in after coffee nearby, and read some papers or magazines, and pick up a book or two to pass the rainy evenings. Nice space, good integration of light and outdoor space. read more

Just a head's up as I dont have a lot of time to type up a full review. Ingleside branch is opening it's new location TODAY! 1pm Grand Opening Ceremony 2pm Ingleside is open to the public! Luckily, since they are moving to a new location, the branch was only closed to the public for 1 week while a transition team moved all of the materials from the old branch on ocean & faxon to this new location. The old branch was a former bank of america building, and as such, you had easy access to the atm's outside. It was also across from a nice cafe, walgreens, rite aid, ups store, and 24 hour fitness location. This new location is across from a dim sum / chinese food shop, a mc donalds, and right by kragens. It's significantly closer to Bart @ Balboa, and City College's Phelan Campus. While it doesnt offer easy atm access, this will further encourage patrons not to accrue fines =) And the staff will no longer have to worry about people stumbling in; asking if it's a Bank of America, or whether they can make a deposit. I have a feeling this new location will get a lot more traffic compared to thet old location, but parking may be trickier. Maybe you can sneak into Kragen's parking lot for a few minutes! In any case, I'll try to make my way down here on Sunday to take a look at the new digs, but from looking at the floor plan, I can tell this will be a better building for library-ing. They have an actual seperate childrens room, teen room, adult reading room, an outdoor garden/reading area, and is purpose built to function as a library. The only thing I'll miss is the Air Conditioning in the old location. I have a feeling the new building won't have that built in. Cheers and happy reading! read more

Overall I would give 5 stars to the SFPL library system because it's free and you can request for a book to be delivered from any SFPL library to any other SFPL library. I feel happy that my taxes are going towards giving free access to books! But talking about this particular branch...It's a small library and they don't have a huge collection. This place is always bustling with activity, so if you are looking for a quiet lonely spot with leather upholstery and huge bookshelves surrounding you, this is not the place. So, I don't like sitting in this library, but I do like going there frequently to pick up or return my books. The people at the desk are really very friendly and in a way make up for the lost ambience. read more

SFPL is the best library in the world! This branch has a cute outdoor play space for kids, a nice indoor one as well and of course the best selection of books! It can get crowded on weekends but hey that's because it's an incredible free, public service. The staff are amazing - friendly and easy to talk to. read more

I used to go to the Main Library in Civic Center because it's the biggest library and "The city of Angles" was shoot there long time ago. But hauling back and forth few big books using public transportation getting pretty tiring for me. So I decided to go to this library. This library is new, maybe just about 4 years ago? Still pretty new to me. They used to share parking lot from the Kragen next door, but now that space now are becoming a building for apartment from the Avalon Bay group. What a greedy greedy people they are. Anyways, the staff are very helpful, I never have a negative experience while asking for assistant to look for my book. They are very knowledgeable and efficient. There was this guy name (I think) Richard Lee, he was the one that was very helpful and patience with all my requests. He was also held classes for online job searching and it's FREE. He also taught me how to find and reserved books online even from out of town. I don't know where he went, but I don't see him anymore working there. No worries, there's always somebody that more then happy to help you find your book. Another plus that I like, this library is very bright. I mean I like the interior design. It has many windows and skylights (ceiling windows) that helps with natural lights. I feel somehow relax and cozy, just like my house.... But maybe not exactly like my house, since recently, in this library you can't even sit down and read, let alone relaxing. You tried to find a spot to read and everything else was full, too many people walking back and forth, to add that, you can't really use the the conference room. This library used to be empty, but now, it has so many ppl here all the time! I can't wait to get my books and get out. The area for sitting is very limited, and to sit in the discussion room, you must have an appointment (kinda useless i think). Parking is terrible. read more

The branch itself is quite small so it lacks room to hang out and read. There's one public computer and two available for reservations. BUT my four stars is for the fact that I can just stop by on the way to school and pick up everything I requested online at that branch. Kudos to the employee who cut my late fines in half when he found out that I forgot about the books before I took off for the holidays. I am looking forward to the new branch! read more

I really enjoy this library and love how neat it is. The staff are very approachable and kind every time I have a question. Sometimes, I cannot fit heavier books in the drop off location outside so I take it inside. I always forget where to drop it off and the ladies always take it for me. Sweethearts! In the same location, you have yogurt land, whole foods, mcds, mighty vikings (cash only). Take the k or 29 here and remember to return your books so I can read them :) read more

So this is my first time visiting the new library after the small crappy one that was next to bofa. I love the location of this place, right by the K stop, by a BOFA Atm, good places nearby to eat. BUT THIS PLACE IS SOO FREAKING LOUD. I thought libraries were supposed to be QUIET. I came this afternoon to concentrate and do homework, and theres kids running around everywhere AND they're talking so LOUD! They need to work on being more quiet! :( read more

This library is a decent enough library to go in, read some books, get your work done & leave. It's great that it's in a local area nearby some cafes. They have an outdoor area next to the library for some to sit outside and do some reading or enjoy their lunch. Little things that bugged me a bit was the seating inside. This place isn't too big to begin with so there isn't much seats. Plus, the seating area isn't closed off so that you can focus and do your own thing. It's in a wide open space shared with others. They do have lovely sofas that you can sit on. Although this library isn't as spacious as others, they have a good amount of books that's good to work with. read more

A nice little library for the locals, except for a Caucasian staff librarian with very poor customer service. The first time I was there, she was standing the information desk, I asked her "can you help me" since there was no one else around. She gave me a flat "No" and then walked back to the room behind the information desk, and start talking to a couple of guys who were arranging stuff inside the room. While I was waiting to be helped by someone else, she walked out of the back room and turn around went back in there again. Maybe she saw me still standing there waiting for help? I am not sure. Anyway, she never bothered to check if I need help still. This morning, I went in for a family pass, and she was there. I happened to ask her a question-"What is this California Historical Society? Since that was one of the attraction choices that are still available for check out. All she said was "We don't know anything about these attractions". It might be true, but the way she said it was neither friendly nor professional. Later, I called the library and wanted to talked to the manager about my experiences at the library. First, I was told that the manager was on vacation, and then the lady who answers the phone said that there was no Caucasian staff member working at that library branch except for the manager who was currently on vacation. Eventually, she said that she knew who it was, but all of sudden, the phone reception was so bad that she could not hear me. So I called back, and wanted to continue my conversion with the lady, to my surprise, this was what I heard on the line" I am the person who you dealt with this morning". As you can imagine, she could not recall stonewalling me neither could she have any info on the Historical Society. Since the branch library manager not on duty, I called their regional branch manager office about my experience, and was told that she had been a very good employee, and had been known for providing good service to customers, and the employee I was complaining about felt threatened by my conversation with her over the phone because of my abusive language. I asked what was exactly the language I used during our conversation, he could not tell me. I am VERY disappointed about the Library, that is all I can say now. I hope they can improve in the future. read more

If you want a book....go online. Pick your book. Tell them which branch you want to get it at...and they'll notify you by email that you're book is ready to pick up. Or DVD. The new library looks really clean and polished! I like that they have chinese below the english signs as well because there are a lot of chinese people living in this neighborhood and I'm sure it helps those who can't read english. I can't say anything about the selection as I never really browse the library but I reserve books online and pick them up here. I like the electronic checking out system, its much faster and its very convenient. I'm in and out very fast. This may not be the best place for studying as it is not that quiet but other than that, its great! read more

I can't give a public library a bad review, but this one's not my favorite. I came here to do some studying and quickly realized that the space was not designed for that. There was very limited seating, and the few seats were taken up by people who had obviously been there for hours. I finally snagged a seat in the "teen" area but it was a little awkward since I'm pretty clearly out of that age range. I was confused why the library looked so large from the outside but was so cramped once you got through the doors. Upon poking around, I found a massive room behind the bathrooms that was full of tables and chairs. Unfortunately the door was locked and the lights were out. I found out that the room is reserved for events and stuff. Whoever planned the use of this space needs to find a new career. Anyway, I needed to make a copy but the librarians couldn't make change, so I now have a $19.85 copy card. Still I can't really complain about a library. Free bathrooms if nothing else! read more

Great place to study, but it's really small; which means a really small selection of books and hardly any seats or tables to study on. The best way I can even rate any potential study areas is to tell you about the environment. All the times that I've ever came here, the place was packed with people; I only get lucky with seats most of the time. And I can tell these people stay for hours or even the entire day because you can see that literally almost everyone is reading a chapter book. So I suggest that if you don't get lucky with a seat, don't even bother because it's least likely these people will leave anytime soon. In all fairness, this library is fairly quiet (compared to the CCSF Rosenburg Library) but it's the kind of quiet that is easily broken by an annoying person who doesn't wanna leave their seat to answer a phone call outside, so instead they "try" to whisper while talking on the phone (which doesn't help, because everyone ends up hearing the conversation anyways). They do have computers, but every time I go, they're always occupied, so I only come for the silence. They do have an adorable children's section, so definitely bring the kids. read more

libraries remind me of the good o' days when i would bust out my green library card and carry a stack of books taller than myself. exaggerations aside, this is a great neighborhood library that closes later on Wednesday nights so i can stop by and pick up a book or two on my way from the gym. selection is not that great, but i always utilize the online feature that allows me to request a book, put it on hold, and get an email notification when the book is available. i know this location also hosts special events for families and encourages reading amongst kids, so definitely check it out if you're nearby. read more

This is a very cramped and small library but the planners manage to include a Children's area near the one big table that they have and a reserved Teens Area for Non Profit members only. There are no dedicated space for those who like to do library research. The library is not quiet at all. Dumb planning. read more
