I guess during my first free days while being in severe pain I somehow made a nurse cry a young RN. If you can believe that. Now remember I'm in severe pain I had to have the hospital patient care assistant come to my room and talk with me. Now remember I just got done and having a nine and a half hour surgery on my neck. While she was sitting talking to me another nurse walks up to my door and yells how dare you make so-and-so cry. I had a look at the patient care assistant and said I don't even know who this woman is I looked at the patient care lady and said who is this person I don't know her is this how Mayo Healthcare treats their patients. She made the woman apologize to me and I just looked at her and said this is crazy maybe they need to go back and graduate from kindergarten before they become a RN and deal with with people who are in severe pain from a surgery. Horrible Hospital!

I feel as though they think because they are the only hospital for approximately thirty miles that…read morethey can treat you how they want because you have no choice. This hospital has many issues from disorganized staff to rude nurses and doctors. It sucks that they are in any way associated/affiliated with Mayo Clinic because that may in some way conn people into thinking they have a standard of care equal to the Mayo Clinic. They don't. If I were dying I think I would try to make it to the next hospital and if I could at all wait I'd make the drive to Rochester. Wouldn't take an animal here. Ask around to the people in town they all seem to have their own horror stories.

I delivered my baby here and they based my care off of anxiety and pain management. I walked into…read morethe surgery room for a c-section, hormones were all over the place just like anyone else would've gone through, lights blaring, 10 staff members standing in a circle, sterile environment, of course my anxiety was through the roof considering soon enough I was going to have a c-section. I have never had one done, anesthesiologist was great and so was my surgeon, quite a few people in training which made me feel a little uncomfortable but we both made it through the surgery safe. During recovery I had severe gas pains, nurses kept attempting me to start walking the next mid-day when I was still having severe gas pains and they looked at me like I was a joke as well as maybe acting? Or scared to walk?? Of course I would love to get up and run a marathon but it's difficult when you are experiencing horrid gas pains. Pain was not managed well, nurses wrote in false progress notes. 2 days after my surgery, my gas pains were still terrible, pain was still not managed correctly and I was also having muscle pains. I asked the nurse if there was anything else I could take such as a muscle relaxer to help with my pains along with the narcotics I was taking to help ease the pains. She talked to a lead RN and recommended vistaril.. it barely helped with muscle aches like a regular muscle relaxer would and it also knocked me out completely. I couldn't take care of my 2 day old baby... I was SO out of it like I was given a horse tranquilizer. I was pumping/breast feeding at the time so as you could imagine it was DIFFICULT to even hold up the pumps, I kept falling asleep and had to be woken up WHILE pumping.... I simply asked for a muscle relaxer or something else besides ibuprofen and Tylenol to help manage my pains considering 2 days prior I had a c-section. She based my pain on anxiety and pain management. Didn't give me the narcotic unless I asked for it because it was a prn (as needed) when again, I was literally just sliced into.... It should be common sense to just give it when it is available.. she was sassy when I asked another nurse that came in the room if I was able to have the narcotic and came in shortly after and said "I can't just give you the medication unless you ask for it so next time please ask and I will get you one". I was speechless. What was supposed to be a non stressful delivery experience, was very stressful, mentally exhausting/draining, the list goes on. Lactation ladies were amazing, don't get me wrong maybe like 2 nurses were AMAZING. 2 nurses helped me set up my pumps, watched my baby so I could rest for a few hours, helped me in the bathroom/with transfers with no hesitation and were very heartwarming good souls. I just don't understand why people work a job where there job requirements are patient based care. This one specific nurse that over drugged me, put in a progress note that I was "knocked out from the vistaril" and how I asked for something to help me sleep so she gave me that???; had me in tears. I did not expect to not be able to function. But I guess in her eyes "this was distressing" for me. (I blacked out the nurses name and the dates due to having respect for others) I highly suggest if you are getting a c-section or go into labor and delivery not to tell them you have anxiety. In short they might hit you with a sleeping pill and tell you it's a muscle relaxer and your muscles won't feel a difference! You'll get great sleep tho and feel so drunk when you are woken up to take care of your baby! But don't worry. They did their job???

They are so good with kids and my son did very well with them. I wish I could say the same for the ER staff. Most are nice enough but they have no clue how to handle epilepsy. They airlift my son almost every time he goes in because they don't know what to do. They act like we don't know our son best. And twice they had him airlifted to the wrong hospital. The last time we were there, it was all new staff attending to my son. They were "concerned" and had child services talk to us because they didn't know anything about my son and didn't trust us when we explained what his seizures are like even though he's been there multiple times. If there were another hospital to go to in the area, I would take my kids there because the staff at RAH doesnt know how to handle anything more than the flu.
