Gaius was mischievous and made the walk interesting. We got to love on their unique personalities for the entire walk. The walk was well worth the small fee! Then we got a chance to visit all the females and they are feisty! I had one spot in my face as they were all bombarding me for treats - and it was hilarious more than anything. The tidal river is easily accessible within a 10 to 15 minute easy stroll from the parking lot. Horseshoe crabs can be seen spawning in June. Plenty of fish fry hatching in July. Great place to wade, but be mindful about disturbing the horseshoe crab grounds where there is sand. Clams can be gathered at low tide. But make sure you get a permit from the county clerk before hand. The daily clam bag limit is generous. Lovely views of the river, tall grasses and wildflowers. There is even an Osprey nest that gets used in Spring through Summer. A magical way to drink in midcoast Maine without a lot of driving and hiking.
