I came to her after a car accident and a disappointing experience with another neurologist who dismissed my symptoms as anxiety and refused to order imaging. Dr. Wingrove did thorough in-office testing, saw red flags for spinal cord damage, and ordered the imaging that confirmed severe compression in my cervical spine. Her care quite literally changed the course of my health. I needed surgery, and without her, the condition would have gone undiagnosed and worsened. She's also responsive via the patient portal and open-minded to different treatment options. I'm beyond grateful to have found her and can't recommend her enough if you're dealing with neurological issues.

His nurse is also very friendly and informative. My problem with this practice is the administration and the website stating patients need to arrive 30 minutes early, because when I did so, the staff acted as if this was completely unnecessary. When I was first contacted by CTNC to schedule my appointment, I was told to fill out new patient paperwork online and that I needed to arrive 30 minutes early. Also, when I visited the practice's website, I read the verbatim text: "We are better prepared for your visit when you arrive at least 30 minutes early with your forms already filled out. This will allow ample time for our staff to enter your medical history, medications and insurance information into our electronic medical record before your appointment. If you do not arrive 30 minutes early with your forms already filled out then we may not be able to see you in a timely manner and, in some instances, may have to reschedule your appointment." Naturally, I completed all my paperwork at home and arrived at 1:30 for my 2pm appointment. The man who assisted me at the front desk commented on how I was extremely early and seemed surprised I had my paperwork in-hand. I explained the instructions given on the website, and he shot back with, "Well I called you to confirm your appointment was for 2:00." It made me feel like I was crazy, or had done something wrong. Aside from the confusion I felt after this exchange, I was then left with an hour and a half wait to see Dr. Horvit. This is the longest I have ever waited to see any doctor. I was not called back until 2:40, and Dr. Horvit came in at 3:00. I understand that a wait is expected to see the doctor, but with the seemingly unnecessary extra 30 minutes I waited, it seemed painfully long. None of the staff acknowledged my wait time. I emailed the practice administrator, Vernon Christie, about my experience, and suggested that either the "30 minutes early" policy be changed or that the very specific instructions from the website be removed, since it doesn't seem to matter. I sent the email on June 21 and received an out-of-office response. It stated Mr. Christie was due back June 26, but I never received a response. Not that I asked for one, but it would have been nice.

I was interested in coming back to CTN, but after trying to reach their office all week with no response (nobody answers the main line, nor calls you back after you've left messages) I've decided not to use Central Texas Neurology. This is especially disappointing. Reliable communication is essential in healthcare. Patients should not have to struggle to reach their provider's office. When you rely on a physician for ongoing care, especially for chronic conditions, this level of unresponsiveness is unacceptable.

I sat and waited for Dr Cook for more than an hour on May 25, 2023. No one seemed to care how long I had been there, so I went up to the receptionist, and identified myself as a new patient again and also to let them know I was experiencing a very long wait for an appointment that should have happened an hour ago. The response was oh he's in surgery today. So although I was very perturbed, I brushed it off and rescheduled. Today is June 15th. Today as I walked in again to check in, I was approached with the same paperwork to fill out again that was unused the last time. I tried making an office clerk aware that I had already filled that out the paperwork the first time I had been there less than a month ago. She wanted me to redo the paperwork. I told her I wasn't having it and that my paperwork should be somewhere in my file. After several attempts of trying to get a few words in to this lady, I finally just buttoned up Fired Dr Cook then gave the lady a little piece of my mind. Surprisingly, there were approximately four or five other ladies at this massive counter and not one tried to take over, or try to interrupt the lady to explain to her that she was being rude and unprofessional by assuming and interrupting. It's beyond my understanding how anyone that works in a medical staff will assume anything. As I was leaving, I asked Dianne if you could have Dr Cook call me so that I could explain why he was no longer going to be my neurosurgeon, they told me that he was running about 45 minutes to an hour late again today. No one called me however in a Baroness Dianne did tell me I should call and see if he's behind schedule today. At that point, I knew that this relationship wasn't gonna last and he wasn't gonna have a job with me. I'm trying to understand, and I know that I am a bit frustrated right now, but would it be so wrong for me to think that it's the doctors staffs responsibility to place a call and say hey we're running late today. We know that you are busy as well, so we wanted to see if you could come by a little later, as opposed to being here in an office, sitting down, staring at other people that are doing the same thing. From what I understand my procedure has been estimated in about half $1 million. This is the worst medical staff in Austin, Texas and by the looks of things Dr Cook doesn't seem to give a rats ass about any of his patients, New, and I would imagine existing as well. If you were considering neurosurgery look elsewhere. Don't let the beautiful office space fool you. This is not the place if you're a busy person or keeps schedules and appointments like I do! Good Luck!

At Noon, I asked the front desk how long it would be until I was seen. They did not know but said someone would be out to talk to me about it. Dr. Horvit's nurse did come out and said he was still in a procedure and could not give me a definite time for my wait. I told the nurse I had other obligations and that I could stay till about 12:10. At 12:15 I left, and told the front desk I could not wait any longer. I was on the freeway on the way home (I live one hour away from Round Rock) when his nurse called to tell me that she had just come out to get me. I said I was sorry, but I had to go. She wanted to know if I would like to reschedule. She told me the next appt. was in August. I thought about it but said no. Later, it occurred to me that if I did come back in August, it's very likely the same thing would happen again and I would waste another 3 hours with waiting and drive time. I'm sure Dr. Horvit is a fine doctor but this was not good business practice. I will not be back. And, unless you are willing to accept that kind of service, I would not go either.

I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Horvit. I visited him several years ago for a problem I…read morewas having. Back then, his advice to me on how to alleviate the nerve pain was great. I was referred to a neurologist recently for an EMG test, and, of course, I requested to see Dr. Horvit again. I was very impressed with his positive and caring attitude towards me during my recent visit. The EMG is probably not the most pleasant task to perform, as it is a test where you subject the patient's muscles/nerves to electrical activity. However, a good conversation between tester and patient can go a long way in creating a distraction from the medical procedure. Dr. Horvit's professionalism and personality helped me feel comfortable and almost distracted from the testing at times. In today's health-care environment, it can be difficult to find medical professionals who truly care about their patients. Before the EMG test, Dr. Horvit listened to my symptoms, which gave me peace of mind and reassured me that he would consider my symptoms during the testing. Even though he had information from the doctor who referred me to him, Dr. Horvit listened nonetheless. I believe listening and understanding the problem at hand are important skills necessary for treatment of any medical issue, as is treating patients with respect and kindness. On all of these skills, Dr. Horvit has exceeded my expectations.
