Doing these types of roofs takes specialized knowledge and there are not many craftsmen (and women) left that know how to do these kinds of roofs. Since my house was built in 1840 and I'm slowly restoring it and replacing all of the beautiful, quality pieces that were removed over the years, I knew I wanted a historically accurate roof. I knew that this house probably had a metal roof when it was first built. I called other roofing companies before I found Stillwater Metal and was told by other companies that they could do standing seam roofs but then when they got to my house, they'd try to sell me on a asphalt shingle roof and wouldn't actually give me a quote for the roof I wanted. I'm so glad that I found John and his team at Stillwater Metal. Our roof looks great and has a 35 year warranty, although it will probably last many years beyond that. Stillwater Metal uses Drexel Metals which come in a variety of colors. I'm so glad that I stuck with what I wanted and got the standing seam roof. It looks great and will last so much longer than an asphalt shingle roof.

Like I said, very talented. However, his integrity is to be questioned. We had what was thought to be a trusting relationship established over a number of years. Shared faith in God, among other things. And this trust was despite a similar scenario that happened to me happening to a couple in Vermont (look it up, the VT AG sued and won against John). John was extended trust despite this. (my bad) In this case, he billed the couple for the job (50 percent) and never did the work. Similarly in my scenario, he was paid, in advance, for agreed-upon work that he ultimately did not finish, though indicating he would be back to finish it. Email exchanges acknowledged the work would be done and I would hear from him. That never happened and the work was never was completed. In fact, he did more damage to the house, pulling things apart as a part of the job, that were left in a demolished state. This type of integrity affects all other contractors that do work and are honest.

I received the call from Oleg not more than 30 minutes later. He was able to schedule a visit later that same day. When Oleg arrived, we reviewed the work that needed to be done. Taking advantage of his presence and knowledge, I pointed out a less urgent problem with the soffit in a different section of the house, and a concern I had with some siding at a third location. He assured me that the two soffit problems could be fixed and that I did not need to be concerned about the siding issue. We then agreed upon a price to do the soffit repairs. I was next actually surprised to see that Oleg was prepared to do the repairs right then and there. He unloaded the necessary ladders, tools, and equipment to safely scale the garage roof and fix my major problem. With that section of soffit resolved he moved to the other side of the house and realigned and secured the other soffit. We got prices from three contractors and they were all within a fairly narrow window. We chose Saratoga Roofing primarily based on the quality of the roof inspection. Igor appeared to know what he was talking about, and pointed out both positive and negative things about our old roof that other estimators either didn't see or didn't think was important. We had originally agreed on a date for the work, but then that called to ask if they could move the work forward a few days to avoid a possible weather situation. The crew started arriving at 6:15am and were hard at work by 7am - and they completed the project by 7pm and did a great job of cleaning up. And that was on a day that got well into the 90s. They brought in a large crew - I didn't actually count heads, but there must have been at least 12-15 people. And the way they worked together was amazing to watch - at one point I noted to my wife that it was almost like ballet as they complemented each other. Our roof is complicated - peaks and valleys, and fairly steep. So the bottom line is that we were very pleased with the work they did. I'm sure that there are contractors who might have been less expensive, but this is a job that hopefully we never have to get done again, so I would rather pay a bit more to get it done right.

There did not seem to be any oversight by Rich Home Exteriors to keep track of the work and quality of work being done. Many of the windows that were being wrapped were improperly done and had to be redone, as well as an exterior door and some trim along the garage. We had asked them to remove some existing solid wood soffits along the garage eaves and install ventilation. Initially they simply covered over the existing wood, which did not allow for ventilation. It took a few attempts to get it properly ventilated. The threshold on our new front door was very unstable and flexed every time it was stepped on. We had to mention these issues a number of times before they were remedied. We had a number of other minor issues as well. We chose Rich Home Exteriors because of the positive reviews we had read online. However, our experience was very different from what we had read. We decided to put up an honest review of what our experience was like. It was a very stressful situation for us. We had to continually monitor the work that was being done ourselves.

However, he was not licensed and insured so I wouldn't use him. Called Rich's, who is licensed and insured, and they came by to look at it. There assessment was that the door was fine (and it was), and the rotted wood was just a kick plate. All flashing and seal around the door was fine. Just a couple of dollars to replace the kick plate and all is fine. Plan on using them for some additional repairs. I would highly recommend them.

We hired Blue Bird Roofing (formerly known as Kornerstone Roofing) after our neighbor's tree fell on our house. The tree damaged our upper roof and caused extensive structural damage to our back porch, so we knew we needed a roofing company that could repair more than just our damaged shingles. After calling several local roofing companies I was feeling a little overwhelmed - some wanted to just repair the shingles and subcontract the needed structural repairs, others tried to upsell me on features I wasn't looking for, and others told me they weren't willing to work with the insurance company on our behalf to get the needed repairs covered. They put a new roof on our porch, repaired damaged rafters and beams, fixed cracked and water damaged trim, repaired torn screens, replaced a piece of damaged aluminum siding on our house, installed new gutters and guards, installed new siding, really they did everything that needed to be done so our porch looked exactly like it did before the tree fell. The Blue Bird Roofing team worked all day and came back the following evening to do more repairs. The owner even spent several hours on a rainy Saturday doing detailed repairs inside our porch because he wanted everything to look perfect. Not to mention the repairs we needed for our 2nd story roof - new shingles, new gutters and guards, opening a ridge vent that had never been cut to ensure our roof had better ventilation, new flashing around our chimneys, new trim - new everything. He even installed missing cross beams in our attic (at my request) so our house could have more structural support under the roof.
