I was like ouch and yikes. When it was time to get my manicure, she looked at me and said "money". I understand that there may have been a language barrier. I asked if she wanted me to pay. She nodded her head. I left less than a 20% tip...and she acted upset. I don't feel like I received a 20% tip service. I need to find another place.

There were a few other people ahead of me and she did a great job of getting us sat down for our service. The place seemed to be pretty nice visually, with nice lighting, decor, and chairs to sit and wait. The first issue I had was with the sign in tablet where you have to select your service while checking in. The selections are limited so it didn't cover all specific services so you are forced to pick something that matches as closely as possible. Then I asked if they had a menu, which they did not. The lady mentioned having ordered menus but not yet receiving them. Menus come in handy so there are no surprises on expectations and the customer knows if prices are reasonable or not, giving us the opportunity to stay or find another place. I thought this was odd. After waiting 30 minutes, I was sat down for my feet. They seemed to give them same service to everyone with the hot towel, massage, and pedicure. They charged $32 for this with regular nail polish. Not bad. The lady did an awesome job. I went to get my nails done with a different lady and she did an amazing job too (Annie). She took my original acrylic nails off as a soak off per my request, and gave me a full set and charged $53 for the full set and $7 for the nail removal. I thought the full set price was more expensive than I usually pay but it was not a huge deal because she did them so nicely. I left very satisfied with the service provided. All in all, I like this place and their staff. I will be returning. I hope they change the tablet checkin and get menus for customers to see ahead of time.

I was looking for a place to get a gel pedicure and was shocked that very few nail places in SF had anything above 3 stars. A lot of places weren't open on a Saturday which i also thought was odd. I called ocean nails a few minutes before they opened. They answered right away, had availability for anytime i wanted to come in that day. I made an 11am appointment they sent me a text confirmation which i liked. I walked in right on time and was greeted immediately by a nice man, and was seated 2 minutes later. My tech was super sweet. Friendly. Did a good job. Was quick but not too quick. In LA you get asked what kind of pedicure you want and are pressured to upgrade from a basic pedicure to all kinds of other things and your pedicure goes from 35 to like 85. I wasn't asked anything which was nice, it was all included. I paid 45 for a gel pedicure which i thought was great and super reasonable. I will definitely be going back.

First let's start with the good: The location is amazing. The stylists are talented. The space itself is super cool. There's great snacks. Heck even the prices are great. All good things right? Now the bad. However I give the reliability of actually keeping an appointment an absolute zero. Negative stars. The stylist I worked with canceled on me often and didn't return text messages to rebook. Additionally there is no receptionist desk to call so you can ask for information on other stylists to work with. Would you care do try a walk in appt? No such thing. There is literally no one at the front desk. You walk in and sign in on an iPad . Anyways. Hey they think this works for them so I'll let them keep it. Color bar, I love you but run your salon like a normal one with a front desk person, stylists that return text messages and phone calls. Stylists that actually keep appts and don't give insane excuses why they can't keep appts. Follow up with your employees and understand that if they rent a chair with you - they represent your businesses' name. And salon owner, you can reply all you want to the less than stellar reviews - but manage your people better. For the love of hair.

Furthermore, I want someone who is concerned with the long term health of my hair. I had a fabulous hair stylist in San Diego so I know I had high expectations. I came to Mary with damaged hair from my last stylist, here in Santa Fe. I've been to Mary 3 times now and my hair and my hair is getting healthier with each visit and that's not easy to do when you're recuperating, yet still coloring, damaged hair. Mary also does a great job with precise hair cuts. The cuts keep their shape and fall nicely into shape even when I'm due for my next hair appointment. The color is really what I wanted, it looks rich and has dimension. She really listens to me and does a great job of making it happen. I HIGHLY recommend Mary, she is very skilled, well trained and clearly has a passion for hair.
