I brought a color I love, on my second visit! She is experienced, and a masterful professional and artist! I found it tremendously easy and welcomed to be my authentic self, on both my appointments. She had me there for 3 full hours of pampering and smoothing down my unattended rough edges, with salt scrubs, and filing the ridges off my nails. She's lovely, attentive, kind, real, and fun. Her personality compliments mine, and she's a very dear being and a treasure. I work like she does, as a hypnotherapist, giving extra time and attention, valuing my clients and learning from them! She is full of love, and I am too, so we get along famously. If you just want to fade into the rafters and have a quick, uneventful boring manicure in a sea of foreign manicurists, go somewhere more generic. Yesterday afternoon, I had a manicure and pedicure at Petunia's Place. It is a bit difficult to find the location as it a bit off of Cerrillos but there is adequate parking and easy access. It is just down the road from the Whole Foods and across the street from Allsup's. The small salon doesn't allow for groups but the individual attention to detail and hydration is an oasis. Over many years, I have been to several sub-par nail salons in Santa Fe and this spot is far and away the best I have experienced. It is a bit difficult to get an appointment--no walk-ins and because it small and good, they fill up quickly. But the service is excellent. She takes her time, is methodical, and she attends to the details. The salon is clean and hygienic and she focuses on each of your digits and nails to ensure that the shape is correct, the cuticles are clean and the polish is not merging into your cuticles. She carefully inspects each finger or toe. The massages and oils are quite nice as well. She is pleasant, friendly, and positive in a high desert, new age kind of way. It will fit your Santa Fe experience and expectations. I will be back and plan to recommend this spot to family and friends in Santa Fe. read more

I moved to Santa Fe in 2017 and found Petunia. She gives the best mani and pedis that I have ever had. This is a lot coming from someone who lived on the San Francisco peninsula and Chicago for the previous 30 years. Her pedicures get all my dead skin off and are not for the faint of heart. It was very weird and awkward and I would not recommend this salon to anyone. I rate with 1 star because of unprofessionalism and weird personality and do not recommend this place and person to anyone. 1. First of all, Petunia was late. I arrived timely, the door was closed, and I was walking around the building wondering whether any other door is opened and whether the owner is out there. She eventually arrived about 10-12 minutes late with the Starbucks things in her hands, apparently stopping by at Starbucks, knowing and OK'ing being late for my appointment. 2. The room was very cluttered and filled with personal belongings. (Yes, I am picky when it comes to do any cosmetic procedure, and expect and appreciate clean, fresh, and stylishly furnished professional looking place). But this place looked like a mixture of the someone's cluttered house with the outdated nail salon. Yikes!! 3. To my surprise, she could offer only regular pedi, explaining that all other techniques are "not healthy" and she does not support other than regular techniques because she is "pursuing healthy life style". What??? 4. After all, she tried to convince me very hard to do hot wraps and massage, and I agreed for the massage alone, and immediately regretted - again, she did it so awkwardly, closing her eyes and moving her body from side to side, like she is doing some mantra or meditating or whatever. It looked crazy! 5. By the way, I was charged $$$ for regular pedi and 5 min massage (I could not stand it any longer). Please note, the appointment was about 1 year ago, so, perhaps, she improved since that time, I do not know, and really do not want to know. read more

Petunia"s place is an awesome establishment! My mom and I got pedicures from Petunia for Christmas and she was sweet and kind and funny. Took an ingrown toenail off of my mom's foot perfectly! We went for a 4:00 appointment on a Saturday and Petunia immediately welcomed us. She took my mom for a pedicure first and then I was sitting in the waiting room waiting for it to be my turn and she invited me to come sit with them. My mom loved her pedicure job by Petunia and then while my mom"s toenails dried Petunia took me up to the chair for a pedicure and she did a wonderful job with my pedicure too! Her buffs and foot scrubs last a long time! My toenails just recently grew back. I would highly recommend Petunias place! And men don't be afraid to go in for a pedicure. Very bad experience tonight. Petunia seemed nice - but left me in huge pickle tonight while having a manicure & pedicure. I told Petunia I had a cracked a acrylic big toenail when I booked my appointment 4 days ago. She asked that I take the polish off to see the damage. I complied - she saw that I cut the acrylic at an angle before she started my pedicure. She was filing really aggressively - I told she my nail was hurting it she continued and broke the acrylic below the cuticle. She threw her hands in the air and told me to go get more acrylic. This is 6:30 PM and I have 2 days of big appointments which she knew about. She basically had a temper tantrum after she damaged my big toe. I have a mess thanks to trusting her - big mistake on my part... She continued to NOT accept any responsibility and said she was not finishing the pedicure. It is easy to be nice when all is going well. You really see a person's character when they can't or won't finish a job. I told her that her business integrity was not good. She repeated she had not done anything wrong. She apologized for breaking my nail but offered no resolution. VERY POOR CHARACTER IN MY OPINION! Hopefully Nothing goes wrong if you go to her for a nail services -because she will not take care of you. read more

I have tried multiple times to write the review that would adequately express my fury at the horrible experience I had at Petunia's. When you read this please, bear in mind I'm actually showing restraint. I was impressed by her glowing reviews here and so eagerly booked a pedi. The multiple $$$$ gave me advance warning that she would be spendy -- on par with the most exclusive spas in town. $65 for a pedi, which is the first thing she wanted me to know, along with the fact she doesn't take credit cards, which she will informed me without lifting her eyes from her cell phone. When I made the appointment I told her that I'm handicapped, can't walk distances and need convenient parking. She assured me that there is a handicapped spot right at her front door and there is plenty of other parking in the large lot. When I got there, the parking lot was full and the handicapped spot was occupied by a non-handicapped car. "No one has parking in Santa Fe," she shrugged, again not looking up from her phone. She told me to "park behind that silver car over there." I obeyed, figuring it was a neighborly arrangement. Come to find out, it's not. Luckily the driver caught me while I was still in my car. I don't know what would have happened had he found himself blocked with my feet in warm, sudsy water, or with wet polish on my toe nails. Things went from bad to worse from there. By the time I very painfully climbed up to the pedi chair (the tub, by the way, bone dry and not lined), she decided that she didn't like MY attitude and kicked me out. She stood in her open doorway and hollered at me as I painfully and very slowly walked to my car (which I had finally parked). Not exactly what anyone would call a high end Santa Fe spa experience. If you decide to believe these other reviews and ignore mine, that's your prerogative. Just bear a few things in mind: 1. You can get an actual world-class spa pedi experience for the same amount of money. Elsewhere. 2. Wear sturdy walking shoes because parking is a roll of the dice. 3. Bring cash (or check) 4. Come either high or in a deep level of Santa Fe detachment, because she considers it YOUR job to keep her frame of mind just so. Have back-up plans for that period of time. read more

I've been Petunia's client for 4 or 5 years and highly recommend her. She spends at least twice the time that other salons do on your nails. As a sole practitioner she doesn't rush, adhere to a strict time frame or to set product quantities - if your feet need more exfoliation she'll spend the time and energy; if you need extra moisturizing or even a dip in wax, she provides it. Petunia was amazing! She spent a little over an hour on my manicure...probably 2/3s of that time using salt scrub and lotions on my poor dry hands and doing an amazing massage from elbow down to fingers. She doesn't cut cuticles unless one is hanging/ragged, which I really appreciated! You are the only customer in the salon (she books strictly by appt) so you have all her attention. She's friendly and funny and an all around joy to spend an hour with. She gave this new transplant to Santa Fe lots of ideas for restaurants to try and day trips to make. Very good customer service, excellent technical skills, a clean and comfortable setting, and best of all, fun! Besides being considerate, polite, and impeccably professional, Petunia is also delightful and quite funny. She appears to have appropriate levels of self-esteem, and probably would not put up with rude clients -- but I've never wanted to be a rude client! For my first appointment, I took a New Yorker along in case I needed something to read, but she kept me entertained and we chatted like old friends the entire time on my first visit. My magazine sat untouched! You have her full attention, as there is only one client at a time. She allows plenty of time per appointment. There is no rushing, so you can really relax in her chair and enjoy the quality experience. My rough heels were smoothed beautifully, and my cuticles and nails turned out beautifully as well. I will definitely be a steady customer! Remember to call ahead, since she works by appointment only, no walk-ins. One reviewer described this salon as a "tourist trap," but that is impossible since you need to make an appointment and she is tucked into an out-of-the way little location near downtown. read more

If we didn't live 12 hours away, we would absolutely return twice a month. Petunia gave us the most extraordinary, caring, professional manicures and pedicures we've ever experienced. Due to limited travel times, I've only been able to return to Petunia's six times -- always feeling welcomed and pampered. I received a very warm welcome in a clean, sunny salon and a really great mani/pedi service that looked and felt great. I received a really great massage along with good foot and nail care. The location makes this a "tourist trap". Close to the Plaza and lots of walkers. I tried Petunia's based on the Yelp reviews. The mani/pedi was not different than many other good shops in Santa Fe. We have lots of choices. I thought Petunia to be a bit condescending, could not work on a broken acrylic nail and very pricey. I do not have Martha's courage (thank you) for speaking up.
