Reluctantly I'm leaving a review to make others aware of how difficult it is to schedule an appt. I believe in not naming names because everyone deserves a second chance. First let's start with the good: The location is amazing. The stylists are talented. The space itself is super cool. There's great snacks. Heck even the prices are great. All good things right? Now the bad. However I give the reliability of actually keeping an appointment an absolute zero. Negative stars. The stylist I worked with canceled on me often and didn't return text messages to rebook. Additionally there is no receptionist desk to call so you can ask for information on other stylists to work with. Would you care do try a walk in appt? No such thing. There is literally no one at the front desk. You walk in and sign in on an iPad . Anyways. Hey they think this works for them so I'll let them keep it. Color bar, I love you but run your salon like a normal one with a front desk person, stylists that return text messages and phone calls. Stylists that actually keep appts and don't give insane excuses why they can't keep appts. Follow up with your employees and understand that if they rent a chair with you - they represent your businesses' name. And salon owner, you can reply all you want to the less than stellar reviews - but manage your people better. For the love of hair. read more

DON'T GO HERE IF YOU WANTED TO BE TREATED LIKE A HUMAN BEING. I got an awful haircut that was full of technical errors (according to the person who recut my hair) and wasn't anything like what I asked for. The owner of this place cut 4-5 inches out in layers and also (I assume mistakenly) made a huge gap toward the front of my face only on one side, where I am missing 4 inches off my long hair. I asked for a one inch trim and I LOST 2 YEARS OF GROWTH and my hair is not my style. This crazy hairstylist dried and curled my hair WHILE MY BACK WAS FACING THE MIRROR SO I COULDN'T SEE WHAT SHE HAD DONE UNTIL I WASHED MY HAIR. She was totally rude about it and refused to accept her error. The vibe in the place is also really terrible. Don't go here. I'd give ZERO STARS if that was an option. read more

DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU ARE TRANSFEM. stylist referred to me as "he- uh- they" when i gave a female name and was presenting femme, and didn't seem apologetic at all. this place advertises itself as inclusive and trans friendly but that's just not the case. look elsewhere. edit: nikki says the stylist kept apologizing. that's not true. she didn't apologize once until i brought it up later on, and then only did so one time before moving swiftly on. read more

If you're looking for someone reliable and professional, Addy is not for you. In December, and now again in September she has cancelled my upcoming appointment and completely ghosted me on rescheduling. She ignored my texts and didn't get back to me for over a month in December. This time she cancelled on August 29 and only replied today (Oct 13) when I called her out on text. Addy is a good stylist and I'm sad to have to find someone else. But if you're looking for someone to do a long term project, save yourself some emotional energy and go elsewhere. read more

Fastest balayage I've ever gotten. Not rushed just skilled. Very precise and professional. Natalia was fast and friendly. Loves her church. Nice lady. Sadly, didn't love that my haircut consisted of all my very thick and long hair being let down and then trimmed very quickly at the same length. Maybe one pass for a layer. Reminded me of how my mom used to do it. At most salons they section your hair multiple times and take time to trim evenly. Then additional finishing touches and cuts when the hair is dry. You know? A haircut? None of this was done. I told her I didn't want to take a ton of hair off, but if you're just gonna trim it then don't charge me $70 for a haircut! It literally took all of 3 minutes, all wet. Color: good Cut: so bad. read more

I started working with Jessica Peralta about nine months ago (just after we moved to Santa Fe) and LOVE her. Jessica is an artist and a consummate professional. I really appreciate the time she spends on the color of my hair, the cut, and the blow dry. Jessica spends the time, every appointment, to check in on how I am liking my color and makes really great suggestions on how to modify my color when I am looking for a change (highlights, a shade or even a half a shade lighter or darker). When we talk about cutting my hair, Jessica takes the time to listen to me and what I want and she does a great job. Finally, she does a great blow dry - Jessica uses high-level products and my hair looks great every time I walk out of the salon. As a side note, I was in the salon when Elizabeth H (reviewer from 3/30/21) and it was Elizabeth H that was extremely volatile, rude, and used language that offended all of the clients and stylists there. Jessica handled herself incredibly well and did her best to get this woman to leave. I am so glad the police were contacted - it's unfortunate but 100% necessary. read more

What is this abomination you ask??? This is what $150 for "natural highlights" got me from the color bar. I'm a subtle type and I got the cheap stripper look. Chunky, uneven, far from the scalp, overprocessed white, and then these crazy dark red sections...? Just wrong. Yuck. I'm actually glad I had to miss the initial appointment I had for a correction there because it probably would have just come out worse. So now I am counting the days for my emergency correction appointment at another salon (where the stylist who I had a consultation with today said "It's a disaster.") I've heard the owner is fantastic, but she was nasty to me when I called. Also Cindy did a great job for me once so I'm not knocking her. But be very weary of anyone else there. read more

Hours are not convenient for working professionals who need to have their nails done. I am new in town and continued to pursue this place because of a recommendation from someone at work, but I just have to give up. It is just to inconvenient to schedule with them. They don't answer the phone directly. Appointments are made by texting back and forth only on certain days. Crazy. After working hard to schedule, and then having to reschedule a recent appointment, which I did at the shop, I received a reminder text for the appointment I had teschedulThen 1 hour before my scheduled service I was cancelled with a promise they would call me back to reschedule and I would get a discount on the next service. It has been over 10 days and still no call. They must not need new customers. read more

I am the type of person to only cut my hair once a year, but since I started going to Cindy for my cut and color, I will be going more regularly. The salon location is nicely decorated without being too stuffy or even "too much". Cindy asks very specific questions on my color and cut requests which is great because I know she understands the details and impact to the look. I asked for a lob, which I have asked for in the past from other stylists and was very happy how my hair turned out with her. I'm looking forward to returning soon! read more

Worst salon experience of my life. I was actually traumatized when I left. Horrible. Nikki takes no responsibility of training her staff (I think they rent chairs - independent contractors?) I went to Jessica Peralta last week for a color correction, highlights. She insisted on a haircut because she was running late and didn't have time to do a color correction. After the cut /blow out (which was good,) she said I didn't need a color correction just highlights and scheduled me in for the following week. Arriving for my second appointment she completely forgot our previous conversation where I would not need an all over color then highlights, just highlights when I reminded her of the post cut recommendations and she asked me to step out side. Whoa, step outside? WTF, I'm not a school kid needing to go to the principal's office. She then schooled me on my not being appreciative of her fitting me in - kept my mouth shut, because she was the one who had to reschedule. And that I wasn't happy enough with her scheduling an "emergency appointment" and that her clients had to be appreciative and happy. Excuse me? Note to Jessica and Nikki, if you are going to kick someone out of your salon make sure they are not wearing your smock and make sure they have their purse, sunglasses, and headband. Don't treat me like the bad guy when you are the one that didn't remember what you told me. Went back inside to take off the smock, grab my purse and things - Jessica was hiding in the back of the salon. I couldn't find my headband and picked up a box in the drawer Jessica said my headband was in and the bottom fell out of spilling combs all over the floor (which I picked up and put back,) and asked Jessica for my head band to which she replied "the cleaner probably thought it was trash and threw it out." She's the trash, and an unprofessional hack. I was shaking when I left. All in all the most traumatic experience I've ever had in a salon. DON'T GO THERE. HORRIBLE. read more

My fiancé and I went to get our hair done last week and we both look terrible after leaving the salon. We both went in as two beautiful young ladies and left looking like crazy people because Our hair is beyond messed up. I had light brown hair to begin with. My hair is a very naturally light brown with gold in it and I left with a bright orange, looking like I used a box of cheap hot topic dye on my hair. I simply wanted to have my hair dyed a golden color, only two shades lighter than my natural color. That color should have been very easy to obtain during the salon appointment. I know that because I when I was a teenager I got my hair dyed to a lighter color than the golden color during a salon visit and left that day with my hair blonde because from my hair color it's not hard to achieve. For someone with darker hair, that would of course be a different story. Also my hair was that color when younger without even using full on bleach. It was the same technique my stylist used apparently without the full on bleach. On top of that my stylist got hair dye in my eye and it was burning! She told me I could rinse it out if I wanted to and I decided to do so. My fiancé left with colors in her hair consisting of grey, blue and green. She wanted silver. If silver couldn't be obtained during that visit, she shouldn't have left looking like how she did at the least. On top of that the stylist was very rough with her neck piercings and she ended up getting them infected. The stylist was overall nice and sweet towards us so it sucks how this all turned out. When I asked for a refund, she refused. That's over 500 dollars down the drain. We are both college students and getting married in may. Now we lost money on our student budget and on top of that its stressful to hurry up and have this fixed with another salon before we get married. This is terrible and the salon should not allow this to Continue. I filed a claim with my bank today to dispute it but it could take three months. One star stylist read more

Probably one of the best, if not THE best salon in all of Santa Fe. And the prices are quite reasonable, too, unlike a few other 'high-end' salons in town. I've been a client of Cindy's for the past few years-- and I can't say enough good things about her. She's young and really on top of the latest technology and advancements in hair care, cut, and color. She really knows her stuff and listens to your needs. Nicki (salon owner) has never done my hair but I've seen some really nice cuts and color walk out from her station. They just relocated to a better location (next to Tinys and the soon-to-open Chipotles). read more

I have been going to The Color Bar for two years now. The service and professionalism is stellar. The customer review from the person who was asked to leave is a complete and utter lie. I was there and what I witnessed was a violent verbal assault on Jessica and also on her personal property. As Jessica was asking her questions about what she wanted, this customer started speaking to her with a raised voice and in a demeaning manner. It was so horrible, I signaled to the other stylists to rescue Jessica. When Jessica went to the back room to discuss it with her colleagues, the customer started tearing through her drawer, throwing the items across the floor. Her behavior was downright scary, she was out of control and I got my phone to call 911 if necessary. Myself and the other customers were then in need of a rescue ourselves. Jessica and her colleagues came out just in time and Jessica calmly asked the woman to leave. The customer then started screaming and called Jessica a f**n c**t. At this point, a few of us stood up to give backup to the stylists who were doing the right thing to protect us all from her verbal assault. It looked like she was on the edge of a more aggressive physical assault and it was terrifying. We the customers were then in unison telling her to get out. Then we agreed the doors needed to be locked; she was clearly a danger to us all. She talked about her trauma and victimhood in her review, when really all of us there were the true victims of her out of control rage. Thank you to the owner for reporting her behavior to the police to make sure that The Color Bar remains a safe and pleasant place to be. That's the professionalism I've come to expect from everyone at The Color Bar. Also, a big thank you to the stylists and other customers there that day who stood together to make it clear that such entitled and violent behavior would not be tolerated by anyone there. read more
