There is really a lot of everything at the French Market. Meaning, this is a great place to get that really unique gift that you wanna get for that special someone or to find that unique piece of whatever that you will personally use. As there are numerous shops here, each business provides a unique buying experience. Each one represents what they offer, and do it from their own perspective. From this, you'll find some shop merchants that are super friendly, very cordial, and more than willing to make deals with you. Others, not so much. But, that's what makes this location truly interesting. All the personalities that make up this shopping establishment. More than simply a place to shop for gifts, artworks, souvenirs, and the like, French Market also offers some great food stalls. So, if you need a snack, drink, or even a full meal, you can find it here. As this is open air, in the summer, it can get kinda hot inside this establishment. This is not bad or good, this is just something to keep in mind. This is the same during the winter months. You can't get kind of cold in there. But, at least from my perspective, that's a little bit easier to deal with. You just have to wear a jacket. Overall, this is one of the main stays of NOLA. It's truly a must see location. And, for people who know the city well, this is a place to go to when you want to find that truly unique item. Truly, you never know what you'll find.

He sells out quickly as I found out during my first attempt (less than two hours after opening). The gentleman was very nice and served them out of a catering pan in the trunk of his car. Hungry daq goers flock to her...I fear she'll run out of tamales, but she keeps serving them up. I look about and find my chance to run over and check out what she's cookin' with. She had 4 flavors on the menu. I know that three of them were sweet tamales, with the fourth being Pork Tamales. At this point, I had tunnel vision, so the only sweet one I can recall the name of is Blueberry. I bought 2 of the pork for $5, which at the corner of hunger and convenience, I find to be very reasonable. She plates them, fork and napkins me, and sends me on your merry way. I unwrap these puppies slowly, still steaming from the pots they had been contained in. While I prefer a nice cold, crunchy or limey dish this time of year; these tamales hit the spot. Equal parts masa and pulled pork; it had a heat but not too spicy. I could've asked to borrow the hot sauce in her cart but I was good and already downing copious amounts of water. The masa came off the tamale wrapping easily and seemed to me to be perfectly cooked. I say rainbow brite because if Rainbow Brite decided to move to the Marigny, turn in the blonde locks for every color under the sun to grace her locks, rock heart shaped sunglasses and funky rain boots...well her street name would be Holly. Let's just say, you might want her to autograph your corn husk, she just looks that cool. I hope to see Holly again, and venture out to try a sweet tamale!

I didn't go looking for a particular band although I enjoyed what I heard. I came for the food!!! I went on Saturday which is day 2 of the festival. We got there around 11:30, it wasn't too crowded but they were definitely in full swing. By 4:30 the crowd had tripled in size. Lines were moving quickly and the options were endless. We tried several things and everything was so fresh and on point. A few standouts were the oxtail melt, the gumbo dumplings, and the must try alligator cheesecake. My only suggestion would be to allow water bottles to be brought in or, at least empty ones and have a fill station. Next, more seating in the sponsor lounge. The venue was large, and had plenty of space for more seating areas. Also the food in the lounge was lacking in variety, although I enjoyed the salad offering. The bartenders up there were great, and I loved the terrace overlooking the festival.
