This is a small museum collocated in the Administration Building and in front of the fire station…read more It does not have a designated parking area, but there is metered street parking available within a reasonable walking distance. The museum is locked, but all you have to do is press the button at the door during normal business hours and someone will come down and let you in. The museum has old memorabilia such as ladders, water bombs, toys, helmets, radios pictures and decorative hydrants. They also have an old pole that was removed from one of their fire houses. It is not operational, but still cool to see. The woman working there during my visit was very nice and helpful. She answered any question that I had. It is free to visit and for me, it broke up visiting the same old stuff. There is merchandise such as t-shirts, hats, and patches that you can purchase there. There is no apparatus on display, but I was told that if they were not bust that I may be able to see the apparatus in the real firehouse behind the museum. This is not a big time consumer, but is neat to see and could be coupled with visits to the firefighters memorial, the Alaska Law Enforcement Museum, and other nearby attractions

Clean place. You have to go through security and place things to get scanned, but it was a quick and painless process. Once I saw a vagrant passed out in front under some bushes. I had the pleasure of staying her a few days while in Alaska on vacation at the Air Force TLF (Temporary Lodging Facilities) as a home base between stints in Seward and off base Hotels. I'm going to butcher a lot of the specifics because I'm not military. I was a dependent as a youth and this trip was planned for by my sister (Air Force) There is some redundancy on gates due to a combination of bases, but as we were still getting used to the 10:30pm summertime sunsets, most gates close early and without schedule/warning making entry slightly more difficult. There was an airshow when we arrived so the road closures and road blocks to keep public to certain areas of the base made a lot of back tracking. The main roads are well maintained, but parking lots are pretty much at the mercy of the extreme weather with some deep potholes. It's a pretty flat base and you can see planes take off in the distance from almost anywhere. The PX/BX is cool, reminds me of a Fred Meyer, but with a dedicated food court and some outside vendors. Commissary it's pretty basic. Gas is cheap probably due to the oil Alaska produces. The Burger King on base closes early even though we stocked the fridge at our housing. What I did make use of was the recreational facility. You can rent a hot tub there? Coolers, rain gear, bikes, fishing gear, archery gear for hunting, kind of whatever you need. It all was really cheap, if not free. I didn't explore too much because of the 100% security check and it's a big base and I didn't feel like biking around it too much. There was a bowling alley and a bar that's got limited schedule. It's a pretty cool base, but we had some issues with TLF and quality, but rec facility made up for it.

But most everything is is woefully lacking. The materials are very out of date... stuff dating back to before the 70s that isn't valid anymore. So I don't know how students can be expected to use it. I suppose most research is done through the online portals.

There are lots of tables and seating all over the place! The second floor has a quite area on the east side for those looking to get away from the noise. There always seems to be computers available and there are a few printing stations and copy rooms available. Good luck finding parking if you come any time Mon-Thu during the day time classes. The thing I hate about the library is that the entrance is no where near the parking lot. You can be on the east side of the building and see your car and have to walk forever just to get to it. I gotta hand it to this location…read more I voted early. The line was massive. But it moved swiftly and efficiently. All the people that work here were friendly, efficient, and "knew the drill". Street parking was easy. Last but certainly not least: LOOK at their amazing "I voted" stickers. They are works of art! They made me wish voting 8 times wasn't illegal, so I could, y'know, collect 'em all...like Pokemon.
