I'll be honest, I was VERY skeptical about this. How can I feel better after sitting on a small box for an hour? wait what?? But I read all the reviews here on Yelp, they were right! Glad I took the chance. During the process my ears popped and I really didn't feel anything while inside. But after about an hour after my session I felt lighter on my feet. I noticed I was not as swollen on my back and legs. I really did make a difference after any surgery you get. I heard its really good before surgery too. Definitely worth the $$$. After a nipple sparing flap surgery to prepare for my mastectomy at Cedars-Sinai I had come back to Beverly Hills for my post-op appointment which was early the next morning. My breast was very swollen and bruised from the surgery and biopsies I had recently had and I was worried because there was only a week between the surgeries and the plastic surgery nurse had mentioned that if I wasn't healed enough there was a possibility some of my skin could die during the mastectomy and flap reconstruction. My sister mentioned that her friend had hyperbaric oxygen therapy after her reconstruction and that it had helped her with recovery. I searched and called global hyperbaric to see if I might be able to get in that same day to prepare for my post-op appointment. Maya Volk answered the phone and was very understanding about my predicament. She had another client later that night but fit me in beforehand because she knew it would help me. If we had been staying another night she was even willing to bring the chamber to us. She recommended I get as much time in as possible, and I was able to fit in three hours in the chamber. I had never been in one before, it was a very unusual experience. Before the session she had reminded me to charge my phone completely and once I got in I realized why. If I needed to get out to use the bathroom I could text her from within the chamber, which did end up happening. The chamber is snug and requires a little bit of gymnastics to get in and out of, but once you're in there it's very comfortable. Maya asked if I needed an extra pillow or blanket and gave me a very soft comfortable blanket. She then offered to cover the window for me so it would be darker for sleeping, which I opted to do. She let me know that my ears would pop like in an airplane and recommended that I do whatever I normally do to release the pressure. Then she zipped me up and slowly adjusted the pressure while keeping eye contact to make sure that I was still comfortable. Once the pressure was adjusted and the oxygen flowing she checked again to make sure that I was comfortable and wanted the window covered. I was surprised how comfortable I felt. I stayed in the chamber for three hours except for one trip to the bathroom, and the experience was very relaxing and euphoric. I could feel the swelling and bruising of my right breast easing. At the end of my session when I came out of the chamber I felt amazing. When I got back to my hotel I showed my sister my breast and she agreed with me that it already looked a lot better than it had before I had the oxygen therapy. The next morning at my appointment the surgeon said that my breast was healing very well and looked good for my upcoming surgery the next week. It has now been a few days and I am astounded with how much my breast has healed. I was able to get a massage yesterday lying on my stomach with just a special pillow with breast cutouts underneath my chest. I do not think I would have been able to feel comfortable like that before the oxygen therapy. I highly recommend to any woman who might be going through breast surgery that they try hyperbaric oxygen therapy with Maya at global hyperbaric. I am in my last stage of breast cancer reconstruction and had nipple sharing surgery. 2 days after I had bleeding with a purple nipple that needed oxygen. Maya graciously accommodated me during New Years and made the surgery a huge success. I spent 20 hours in the hyperbaric chamber for the following 4 consecutive days, 6, 6, 5, 3 hrs and had an amazing experience. It is not claustrophobic, more like a sleep chamber and you fall asleep. Maya is an incredible person to work with, she was trained with some of the best in the field of hyperbarics and is very knowledgeable, however she does not oversell the benefits of hyperbarics and instead allows you to discover the benefits firsthand. I called on Maya for help with some constant fatigue symptoms I was dealing with but I got so much more out of the chamber. While my fatigue is much improved I also got other incredible benefits! A few years ago I was treated with a particular medication that left me with an embarrassing facial tic. The tic is GREATLY improved, I haven't noticed it all since working with Maya. Also, and very odd, I've always been a mouth breather but have noticed that I am breathing from my nose a great deal more, when I wake up in the morning I am breathing from my nose, I am so happy about this!! Maya is amazing! She is super friendly and very comforting. I had her deliver the chamber to my home and she came over daily to help me heal quicker from a leg injury. I am slightly claustrophobic but she got me over it and I would take my phone and ipad into the chamber and watch movies.
