Came across CaptinK9 and had the opportunity to meet the man behind the operation - Kevin. Kevin is…read morea professional individual who gives great care to dogs big and small. He is a pet training couch of 20+ years and is very knowledgeable in his field. At CaptainK9, they offer a variety of raw goods for your pet such as snacks and meals. I signed my husky up for a 5 days boarding with CaptainK9 and the care Kevin put in for my dog made me feel at ease to know that my dog is in the hands of a trained professional with keen eyes, and a big field for him to roam around and have play time interactions with other dogs. Kevin even sent me a video clip of my dog interacting with other boarding dogs. I could have signed my dog up at a big brand pet hotel where he would have been walked daily in the parking lot, and had interacting play time indoors with other dogs, but I'm glad I made the choice of going with CaptainK9, so my dog gets to have playtime outside and enjoy the great outdoors with trusted supervision. I mentioned to Kevin that I've been wanting to switch my husky over to raw food, so he provided raw food to my dog during his boarding period and I am happy to know that he wolfed it all down very quickly. Needless to say, I picked him up today with bags of raw goods for my husky to enjoy at home. Couple key points I'd like to mention: 1. It's my first time EVER doing dog boarding and Kevin made sure he was present for my dog's drop off and pick up time to go through the details with me so I feel at ease. 2. From Kevin's description during my dog's stay, I know he gave great attention to my dog and it's nice to know I can leave my dog in trusted hands. 3. When I picked up some raw food from their store, Kevin knows it's my first ever trying out raw food for my dog so he quickly explained certain mixtures my dog can have to better his digestive system.

I bought a baby conure here about 2 years ago. They really care about their pets. The baby conure…read morethat was sold to me was hand trained, meaning the birds are use to going on people's shoulders, hands and being petted. I bought my baby conure for about $300 which included the cage and a bag of food for it which i think is a pretty good price compared to other pet stores. The baby conure I bought was about three months old. I come back to this store at times when I need to get my bird's nails trimmed. The person who trimmed and sold my bird really cares for his birds, when I brought my conure back after a year for a trim, you can see by the way he calms my bird that he really cares for the safety and health of the birds even after it's sold. You can also get your birds feathers trimmed here as well. The bag of conure food that they sell is only for conures meaning this store actually measures how much sunflower seeds is needed in a conures diet. They also sell other exotic birds hence the name of the pet store like cockatiels, ring necks, finches, parrots etc. I really would love to adopt a ringneck here one day!

We were interested in a Sun Conure and we came across this shop from our online search. We called…read morethe store from Ottawa to inquire about whether they had the bird and the price. The sales person confirmed that they had it and that it cost $400. We explicitly asked for confirmation about these details because we were coming all the way from Ottawa to purchase the bird. When we arrived at the store. The sales person was trying to convince us to buy baby green cheek conures. When we asked about the sun Conure, he kept saying they are in the back of the store because they were noisy and that we better buy the green cheek baby, which my son didn't like. When we asked about how long will it take until the green cheek baby can be weaned. One time he said 2 weeks another time 3 weeks. When we asked about other birds, he keeps changing the prices. Also he was trying to convince us of buying a bird with broken peak. My kids insisted that they didn't like the green cheek conure and wanted a sun Conure. So we called the next day to ask him to show us the sun Conure, but then he suddenly said that it cost $1400. So we decided not to deal with that store because they were not honest, keep changing the information they provide to us, didn't honour their word, not trust worthy, since they made us come all the way from Ottawa for nothing and to take advantage of us. All this made us even doubt the info they provided about their birds. Hence, we wouldn't recommend dealing with this pet shop.

**Based on memory, not a recent visit**…read more This place is a pillar of my childhood. I used to take public transit and walk escorted as a wee child uphill both ways, yes, literally; in the blazing summer heat and in the dead of winter just to get here. I'd sing "The Ants Go Marching" on the way, out loud, and I loved every step of that mission. The store came up in a conversation recently and suddenly--boom--my whole childhood flashed before my eyes. A few days later I happened to drive by. I didn't go in this time, but just seeing it still standing after all these years gave me chills. It used to be a wonderland of fish tanks... walls of fish... and if memory serves, maybe there were bunnies or ferrets at one point too (I might be wrong on that, but hey, memories blur). Knowing it's still there means I have a chance to walk in again one day and revisit that magical space with grown-up eyes. If you're in the area, especially if you've got kids or a love of aquatic life, maybe go check it out and keep the spirit alive. Here's to places that stay standing, even when the years rush by. I'm 40+ now, and this little shop is part of what built me.

My recent visit to this Big Al's Aquarium was my second time in my lifetime. My usual Big Al's…read morelocation that I frequent is in Thornhill, on my way home from work. It's interesting that I never wrote a review for this Scarborough location. Perhaps I didn't know how to react to my experience walking from the parking lot over to the store the first time I was here. A woman with her army of children were taking up the entire sidewalk as they walked to their minivan and there wasn't any room for me to walk. I politely said excuse me and she yelled at me as if I were one of her kids. And, yes, she was yelling at them along the way. She was obviously having a bad day. I was in the area last Sunday and decided to stop by. My betta fish likes lounging on a leaf hammock that suctions to his aquarium. A week ago, this leaf broke and I needed a replacement. Since he lost his lounging area, he has resorted to hiding behind larger rocks at the bottom of his home. Parking is limited at this store. I actually parked in front of Blinds To Go. Even though there were signs that said that it was for Blinds To Go customers, I decided to break this guideline and park. Seriously, this store wasn't busy. How often do you buy blinds?! I had a different family experience last Sunday. A woman was coming out of the store and calling her daughter to roll their cart out. Her husband went to fetch her. There was a couple ahead of me. The man held the door open for the girl to roll her cart out. Her mom thanked the man. We all went into the store after the coast was clear. I like that the betta accessories are pretty much in your face when you first walk in. I found a new leaf hammock for my pet fish. The leaf is larger. There were also aquarium accessories on sale. There was Popeye, for instance. I managed to text my boyfriend at the store and said that his bicep was bigger than Popeye's. He laughed. There was one guinea pig who looked so sweet and adorable. I don't know if it was male or female, but a bunny kept it company. I also liked looking at birds next door. Big Al's has a rewards program. What I found out through the young woman who cashed me out that the points system doesn't carry over from one location to the next. It sounds so odd to me. Each store has its own points system. Why? How convenient is that to everyone involved? It was also weird that she didn't ask if I wanted to sign up for this rewards program strictly at this store. In a way, I'm glad that she didn't. I don't come here all that often. After installing the new leaf hammock, my fish is back to lounging on it. I'm glad that he likes the larger size. Anyway, this store is huge. You can spend a good hour or two looking at everything from iguanas to goldfish, and all accessories for them to thrive and love. (39)
