One thing I like about the buffet at this place is that they're not afraid of spice. That being said if you are sensitive to spicy you may want to tread lightly here or ask questions before filling your plate with some of the exotic goodies they have. Their buffet has some standard selections like tandoori chicken, and a tikka masala dish. There are also usually some vegetarian selections to keep the meatless folks happy. No one was more surprised than my husband and I that one of our most profound experiences with Indian cuisine was found in Topeka, Kansas. We have traveled cross country moving and such no less than 4 times together, using our GPS to find Indian restaurants on the road when we are ready for lunch and dinner. I've had had Indian food all over this country, but none top Globe. I am a vegetarian and my love for malai kofta runs deep. It is hearty, satisfying ,and spicy. This dish is often my litmus test for cuisine cred. To date, no place has topped Globe's kofta in my book. I also had the paneer pakoras which were really delicious. The pakora batter was light and crunchy and the paneer fresh. Our server was extremely nice and helpful as well. Ultimately, having dinner at Globe was a tasty and positive experience. I've tried MANY Indian restaurants around the US and abroad and Globe is by far my favorite. Friendly staff patiently answered any questions I had about the menu and the food is absolutely delicious. I had the samosas for appetizer-they had a little kick of spice but oh so flavorful. I had the Tikka Masala for my entree and oh my goodness, flavor explosion in my mouth. Each bite was so comforting! I also tried the coconut/peshawary naan...highly recommend. It compliments the food well and has a mild sweetness that can also be eaten as a dessert. This is a small (apparently family run) restaurant. We stopped in for the lunch buffet. I'm a vegetarian. This is the only place I've discovered near downtown Topeka that serves vegetarian fare. My wife, who was with me, had both vegetarian and beef/ chicken Indian dishes. Buffet was excellent! For my taste, the level of spice in all the dishes was perfect, not too much, not too little. I like spicy food; none of the dishes were bland. This was my first visit to an Indian restaurant, but I guarantee I'll be back to eat at this one again! Large variety of dishes, both vegetarian and otherwise, all fresh and hot. Buffet was kept fresh even though it was around 1:00 pm. Cost with tax was $23 for 2 people, so pretty reasonable for the value. It's basically a self serve restaurant, but the staff does keep your drinks filled and used buffet dishes promptly removed. If you're in downtown Topeka and unfamiliar with Indian cuisine, this would be a great place to stop in. With so many choices on the buffet, there's plenty of room to experiment. read more

Found this place on yelp to satisfy my fortnightly craving of Indian food. After reading the reviews i was a little skeptical but as this is the only place with Indian food in Topeka went anyway. Place was virtually empty with only 1 other person eating there on a Saturday afternoon. It's either that they make their food in small batches or that i had walked in at 1:45 PM. which is around closing time - as there was only one piece of tandoori chicken and a couple of pieces of naan which they did not even attempt to replenish. The taste of the food was awesome. I was expecting them to have really toned the food down but they have remained true to the original taste that I would expect back home. The butter chicken, chicken kadai, egg fried rice were all spectacular. Even their matter paneer (peas and cottage cheese) was great. From the desert selection the Mango ice cream was delicious. Price wise i found it to be similar to what i would typically pay for a Chinese buffet ($12) so I'm not sure of the comments of this being expensive. The way i look at it is that you get limited great stuff here v/s huge amounts of average stuff in other places for the same cost. I will surely be returning here to get some more of this. What they can improve is their overall customer service experience which i found to be lacking Topeka standards - it was more of ignore the fellow that i expect in NJ, but I'm in it for the food so i didn't mind. read more

Decent indian food to satisfy that craving in Topeka. We tried the lunch buffet, and while it had all the basics you'd expect - it was about average. Chicken tika masala was pretty bland. Beef vindaloo was tough, but it did have some kick to it. Eventually I just got tired of munching on it. Chicken tandori was dry. Aloo ghobi, however, was very good and done just right. The home-made mango ice-cream that you had to scoop out of a big vat of orange goodness, was delicious, though a bit icy. I have to start off this review by admitting, in the interest of full disclosure, that I am not a fan of Indian food. In fact, you will likely never see a review for another Indian restaurant on my Yelp page again because I simply never go to them. But, a friend of mine picked this as the place for his birthday lunch, so I went along. I have to say I was a bit nervous when I saw the outside of the building, but the inside was extremely clean and well kept. The wait staff was nice and did a decent job of managing our larger group inside of what is actually a relatively small seating area. The food was likely what you would find on any Indian buffet. I will say that their tandoori chicken was so well done that I was willing to eat a second piece (and I never get seconds on any Indian cuisine, usually). The other items on the buffet left a lot to be desired in my opinion, but that may just be because this type of food is a "no" for me in general. One thing I liked that I've never experienced in an Indian restaurant before is the server asked what heat level I wanted for my Mulligatawny and my Rogan Josh. I'm glad it's here and it's a solid three star. Some dishes are well executed (I'm thinking about the "chicken tikka" - which is actually a half decent butter chicken), others leave one scratching one's head (beef biriyani?) and slightly disappointed. Seeing beef at all is weird - presumably the proprietors aren't hindu. Regulars to the convenient lunch buffet will be at the mercy of the chef. Some dishes are nice surprises, others less so. Other highlights include the fried onion pakoras and the mango ice cream. Boned chicken dishes are just fine. Biryanis generally are on the weak side, with insufficient goodies mixed in and on top (cashews, raisins, fried egg...but I digress, it's a regional thing and these guys perhaps don't have the knack). Some dishes have a nice spice kick to them, although these may not be marked. Overall, a workman-like, serviceable, and convenient lunch stop. Come early and get first crack at the food. This is a case where I wish there was the option to give different star ratings for food, service and ambiance. Certainly, the food alone is four star. My appetizer, Vegetable Pakoras, was very good and plentiful. My entree, Malai Kofta, was really delicious. The ambiance is OK, but fairly plain and unattractive. The service was speedy, but lacking. I think with a bit of training, it could easily be improved. It was just some little things, but they all added up and detracted from the overall experience. For example, they put a plate of poppadoms on the table, but didn't bring the pickle and chutney until after the poppadoms were long gone. I can't recall any other Indian restaurant serving one without the other (and I've eaten in several dozen different ones) It may sound like I'm splitting hairs, but I was the only person in the restaurant at the time, so it wasn't like they were too busy or distracted. Another issue was that I was given the check without an option for a second beer, more water or dessert. No big deal, I didn't want any, but if it was offered, I might have changed my mind. I ate here for lunch one afternoon. The restaurant itself is just a square somewhat small room. Very plain decor and not much of a hint that it's Indian. No frills what so ever. That doesn't really matter to me since it was a quick lunch buffet. Items such as Korma, Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Tika Masala and Saag Paneer were all good.
