Amazingly good. We ordered delivery late (which I usually don't do and felt guilty about), but they knocked it out of the park! This is the only place in town where I've been able to find Saag Aloo, and everything else was on point as well. Paneer Tikka, Dhalhi Chana Dal, butter naan, spinach samosas, their mint (green) chutney, and more. The mango and guava juices were a nice accompaniment to our meal as well. The food here is fantastic! The spices are very fresh and more complex than the other Indian places in town. I am vegan, and their options are extensive. They will also make you the vegan option of most of their menu items. I ordered tofu tikka masala and baingan bartha. The baingan bartha is the best I have ever had, and the tofu tikka masala was delicious as well. As I said, the spice complexity is dazzling and intriguing, and everything I have eaten here has been exquisite. I highly recommend this to everyone who loves Indian food. Enjoy! read more

We chose this place because we were visiting Lawrence and craving Indian food and it was the only one open after 2pm. Bad mistake. The place had just opened so I was willing to overlook some things but it just got plain ridiculous. The place does not have a restaurant flair and is mainly a grocer. The kitchen is separated from the restaurant grocery space by a thin half wall so you can hear everything going on in the kitchen and there was no music. There was only one girl there to wait on our table and cook and we were the only customers in the place. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Tikka, Chicken Biryani, chicken samosas, and naan. After our order was taken our server went to the kitchen and we heard the microwave beeping and out came our chicken samosa microwaved. The stunning part was that she served the samosas with catsup packets!! She then disappeared back into the kitchen not to be seen again for at least 30 minutes. The samosas were a little spicy and we drank our half cups of water in minutes never to have them refilled till after our meal was half eaten. The 30 minute wait for our food was full of kitchen sounds, mostly the microwave beeping on and off the entire time. The food came out and I did not care for the Chicken Tikka as it was dark meat and something I am not fond of. Our server/cook brought out one small dish of rice for both the tikka dishes and it was barely enough for one person. The Chicken Biriyani consisted of rice and a chicken leg. When I asked for more rice and I was told they were out of rice which was funny being that we were in a grocery store full of rice. She left and came out about 10 minutes later and rudely served me rice. I was already done with my meal. Giving this place one star is too much. When I went up to pay their scanner was broken (yes they use a scanner in a book to scan the meals) and it took 15 minutes to pay between the phone orders she was taking and calling someone for help. At the end of this nightmare the meal for three people cost $46.00. The cut throat style of this place is definitely not worth restaurant prices. What a disappointment. I wasn't even going to mention the spider in the bathroom sink and lack of something to wipe your hands on but what the heck. read more

My husband and I decided to try Cosmos and ordered delivery through Eatstreet.com. After 1 1/2 hours we still hadn't received the food so my husband called the store to check the status. (I wasn't overly concerned about it taking this long since I know Indian food can take a while.) A woman answered the phone by saying "hello?" which was a little odd since most businesses answer the phone by saying the business name. She said she would check on the status of the order and that was the extent of the conversation. About 15 minutes later the delivery driver arrived and apologized that it took so long and said that there wouldn't be any charge for it. I had already paid with a credit card through Eatstreet and no refund has been issued (I will update this review if I do receive a refund). I'm guessing the driver got lost because the food was not hot. My husband had the chicken tikka masala and said it was good. The naan and vegetable samosa were okay, but not very hot by the time we got them. I ordered the vegetable korma but received something that was definitely not vegetable korma (I think it was dal makhani). I was pretty bummed because I love vegetable korma and was looking forward to trying theirs. The Eatstreet menu said it was also supposed to come with dal soup but it was not included. I didn't bother calling the store because I didn't want to wait another 1 1/2 hours. Both of our entrees came with lentil/papad type chips but they were soggy and cold since they were in the same container of the once hot food and the condensation had gotten them wet. I like supporting local businesses but I was pretty disappointed by this experience and won't be ordering again. read more

When the store was in Topeka I used to shop there regularly for spices and other ingredients. When I shopped there I always received amazing service. Very nice and polite. Unfortunately eating there in Lawrence was one of the worst experiences I have had at a restaurant. Eating in the front of a grocery store was weird. The service was lousy. The food was not right. Some things were stone cold and other things were extremely hot, like out of a microwave. My family and I eat Indian every chance we get. We were very disappointed. We have tried all of the other Indian restaurants in Lawrence and Topeka and all are better options. I will not be going back there. read more

I ordered delivery the other night and I can't wait to order again! I ordered the kothu paratha, spicy chicken roast fry, dal soup, some masala chai and an order of naan for a couple's night in. Even though it was cold and rainy, the food was still warm when it arrived and the delivery lady was sweet as can be. Everything was delicious, the naan was perfectly soft and the chicken was cooked perfectly. Can't wait to have it again! read more

This place is great! Just realize it is a restaurant in back and a store in front. I was able to get spices, a Father's Day present AND a bunch of delicious food! 5 stars! I did not hear a microwave - I heard her chopping and cooking. The lady was extremely pleasant and helpful, especially considering I am vegan. Highly recommend! I rarely take the time to write reviews, but I just felt a dire need to state how much I absolutely love Cosmos. Seeing that it has anything less than 5/5 stars from anyone else is not only confusing, but after tonight's feast it is actually a little heartbreaking. This is only the 2nd time I've had the pleasure of eating from there, but it is hands down the best Indian food I've ever had - and I mean no offense to India Palace, whom I'd always enjoyed, but Cosmos is definitely the best Indian restaurant in Lawrence that I've had the good fortune of sampling. The spices are full and robust, the papad is melt-in-your-mouth flavorful with just the right amount of seasoning (some places tend to over-salt it)...even the rice (particularly the veg pulao) is so succulent and full of flavor I could eat it as an entree by itself. Don't even get me started on the dosa, which was about as authentic as I've ever seen. And the personal touch provided by the people at Cosmos makes it all the sweeter. And while I imagine it's unlikely that enough people will read this review to make a difference, it simply must be said that the experience was enough to drive me to go out of my way to write as many reviews as I can. They absolutely deserve it. read more
