First time coming here and I opted for the orange chicken combo with comes with fried rice and your choice of crab Rangoon or egg roll. I enjoyed the fried rice and the Rangoon was pretty standard like other joints. The orange chicken was different than other spots in that I've never smelled so much orange before. The sauce itself had orange peels within it. I did I could say I liked the chicken but sadly it was really chewy. Other places, the orange chicken is on the crispier side which I prefer. Pretty good Chinese food, just did pickup so didn't eat in the actual restaurant. Was honestly pretty good food, a bit better than the place on 10th St, but not as good as some places in KC. Ordered the Sesame Combo which came with fried rice and a Egg-roll. Pretty good tho the sauce on the sesame chicken was a little bit too sweet for me. Overall it's pretty good food for the money and was prepared rather quickly. I was in and out in about 15-20 mins? The restaurant itself was pretty clean too. I've been coming here for a while. Probably since it opened. Today i was particularly glad to hear the proprietor getting on his help about maintaining high standards when avoiding cross contamination and appropriate glove procedures. The person he was talking to said he was "tripin'," which he wasn't. It's good he's getting on them. I love coming here because it's clean and I never get ill from the food, and it's always fresh, and typically made when I order it, and is well worth the wait. Maintaining high standards where cleanliness and so forth is concerned, comes through in the quality of the food and service. My food today in the H5 dish was spectacular as usual! Must try!! I hadn't found a place in Topeka until we tried this gem last night. It's worth the drive whatever side of town you are. Here is the run down - everyone asked us if we wanted the hibachi...but we decided against it....but will say it's a definite try next time. Empress Chicken - get it extra spicy if you like it spicy it's worth it. Chicken Lo Mein - nice blend of chicken, veggies, noodles and sauce. Good side helping. Crab Rangoon - these don't come in the traction style they are triangles. Get a side of Asian hot mustard (the real stuff) and sweet and sour for dipping. On point. Egg rolls - nice thick and crispy - again the hot mustard (not the packet) and sweet and sour sauce will make your nose sting but oh so good. Hot & Sour soup - this would be the go to. Full of veggies, mushroom galore and spice. Throw some of the crab Rangoon in and you have a tasty dinner all in the soup Egg drop soup - thick and good. Don't know about the service because I didn't go in but the food was questionable and really nasty. The fried rice was alright, not the best but alright. The eggroll didn't taste right and tasted like a poorly microwaved frozen walmart brand mishap. Wok & Grill is a hidden gem of an Asian cafe in Topeka. I have been to Wok & Grill several times, and I was initially led to the location based on positive Yelp! reviews. Wok & Grill is a small, unassuming restaurant tucked into a strip mall on the side of a parking plaza. The set-up is as a fast cafe with orders taken at the front counter with table delivery based on a number-tent. The menu runs the range of midwestern Asian food, with several items that I think really stand out. 1) Hot & sour soup -- This was mentioned on several reviews, and it is a real star of the menu. It's a hearty thickened soup with loads of button and wood-ear mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and tofu. Easily the best hot & sour soup I have ever had. The most amazing part is that a good-sized bowl is $1.69, and a large bowl (nearly a quart of soup) for $1.99. I always order hot & sour when I go here. 2) Fried spring rolls -- These are the traditional crispy-fried rolls that come accompanied with a light sweet and sour sauce. What makes them special to me is the substantial ginger content. So long as you don't burn your mouth by biting into them too quickly (they come out HOT!) you will notice that there is a great ginger flavor in them that really enhances the overall experience. A solid item that I get frequently. 3) Plain lo mein -- Along with the hot & sour soup, an element of a cheap and hearty lunch. This is another item that is sold in a generous bowl for $1.69, or a big bowl for $1.99. As the name says, it's plain lo mein noodles, quickly stir fried with soy (and maybe a little sesame oil). It's a lot for a little price. I got the big bowl once, and it's a lot of noodles, so now I stick with getting the small bowl to go with my hot & sour soup. 4) Seaweed salad - I admit it, I really like seaweed salad. I think that seaweed salad sometimes suffers from being overdressed with sesame oil, and this is no exception, but I will eat it all the same. I know it's not for everyone, as the sesame oil can be a little overpowering, or the somewhat-slimy texture of the cold sliced seaweed is something that some folks do not enjoy, but I am in the pro-seaweed salad camp. As for the other entrees, I've had a couple and generally had good experiences with them. What I have had generally falls into the category of Midwestern Asian, but it comes out piping hot and is generally pretty good. They are also good for take-out. While I've been enjoying lunch, I have seen several people come in and get to-go orders, and I've ordered a second bowl of hot & sour to take home to Mrs. R, and they packaged it up for me in one of those quart to-go liquid / soup containers. Overall, I'm really happy with Wok & Grill, but I do knock it down one star because a friend of mine found a long black hair that clearly came from one of the staff in his food. I had a craving for some hot & sour soup so we stopped in here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. My friend got the General Tso's chicken and I got the jalapeno chicken, something I had never seen on a menu before. The General Tso's chicken had good spiciness and generous portion. I had enough jalapeno chicken left after eating the soup to bring home leftovers. Both orders were for the combo which came with fried rice and an egg roll or one Crab Rangoon. There's not much else to say about Wok & Grill other than the fact that this establishment is hands down the best Chinese/Asian food in Shawnee county -- and dare I say the state. Went here for the first time tonight for carry out. Got the food home and about 7 pieces into my chicken, I notice it's pink inside. A little time passes and my stomach is gurgling and I ended up puking. My wife's fried rice was soggy and was not very good. The crab Rangoon were pretty good though. Needless to say, we will not be going back. And now about an hour after posting the above review, my wife tells me she is throwing away the 1 1/2 containers of the fried rice we have left. So all in all, this was just us throwing away $30. 30 freaking dollars wasted. I am not too happy about that. Also, my stomach is still gurgling...uh oh. read more

Ok so I've ate at Wok & Grill 3 times now and I can say that all 3 times the food was awesome, I've gone at peak dinner time, lunch time and mid afternoon and the food has been consistently wonderful, very tasty and piping hot and they do not use MSG. This is what I had today along with a drink for $11 and some change which I don't think is unreasonable, I asked for it to be spicier but I think I could have gone spicier but I wanted to be able to enjoy. The cashier/server today was awesome, very nice, hospitable and thankful. So if you are looking for a great Chinese place you should definitely check out Wok & Grill!! read more

I was pleasantly surprised at the flavor from this new place. It's a tiny, little restaurant (seating only 20, but perhaps they removed tables for social distancing), but it's very clean aside from the strong fried food smell (maybe it has poor ventilation) and the staff were sweet and kind. We got fried dumplings, General Tso's and Beef Lo Mein. Everything was delicious. Would definitely eat there again! read more

This is now my favorite Chinese/Japanese restaurant. These dishes aren't drenched and floating in sauce (which you sometimes find at other local restaurants). I've stopped in three times so far and the food has always been exceptionally fresh. Since this is the case, you can expect it to take a bit longer than what you're used to at other local restaurants. I recommend ordering an affordable soup or appetizer which you can enjoy before your meal arrives. As other reviewers have stated, the combo and entree on the menu seem "backwards" to many. Visited wok & grill at 400, sw, 29th st, topeka, ks between 12:50pm-1:30 pm on 10/28/19. Parking is in front. The place is rather small, seats about 28 people maximum. The place is very clean, table tops as well as floor. Did not check the rest room area. I was the only one eating customer during my time except 3 people for to go orders. One has to go to the register area, order the food from selections at overhead on the wall, pay for food, get own plastic glass and water nearby and sit down at the tables. They will bring the food to the table. There also four seats for people waiting for to go orders. I ordered combo, hot garlic sauce and vegetables with chicken that comes with egg roll. Food was brought in a plastic container with napkins and metal fork. In the container, on the right side rice and on the left side chicken and vegetables. Amount was moderate to large amount. Price was $8.23, right on the money. Food was good which was ordered extra spicy, so that they put jalapeno slices. I would give a rating of 3 1/2* out of five. read more

I had a hankering for some good food, I stopped by for only to see it was under new management. I place my order - pepper steak onions only, onions only in my fried rice. I went next door to another store came back in and the woman at the counter asked me what do I want to order. I explained I just gave you my order ( now keep in mind when I walked in the shop, the two guys were out back on smoking or on break. no one was in the kitchen) Long story short the woman basically told me that she had a call come in, their food was easier to make, if I wanted something to order from the menu and she's not going to make any special food for me. I replied how do you know I'm not allergic to the items I didn't want in the food. Her response was good bye have a nice day, and she repeated that continuously. I took a picture of her (but the file is to big to upload) then she threatened to call the police on me. I will never step foot in that establishment again. I went downtown to Golden Dragon and had a great meal with good service. The service and food that she didn't want to supply. someone other establishment was willing too. ! Tried the place tonight based on ratings. I would give it 2.5 stars. Tried Sweet and Sour Chicken and Wok Steak. Chicken was chicken, limited vegetables and no sauce so no sour or sweet. Steak had more veggies but still not many. Steak was tender but no body to dish. The entree is served with steam rice only, the meal would have allowed other types of rice plus a spring roll. The food was just ok. We got pork lo mein, the happy family, mongolian beef and egg drop soup. The pork didn't have that characteristic red ring or smokey flavor and there werent very many veggies (onions, cabbage, carrots ect.) in the dish. The happy family was the worst ofnthe bunch. All of the seafood in it tasted horrible and just wasn't worth thw price. The mongolian beef was pretty tasty and fairly spicy. We didn't much care for the egg roll or the crab rangoon the fillings weren't tasty/had an odd flavor to us. I really enjoyed the egg drop soup, it had pretty good flavor.
