I went to Glow twice last year for facials . Both times was a glorified face wash . My wife made me another appointment today -( my son is getting married Saturday ). my appointment was at 11am . I arrived at 10.50am and I finally left at 11.35. The person at the counter was extremely rude when I explained that I had a haircut appointment at 1pm and I just didn't have time to wait any longer ! I recently moved back to the Boston area and stumbled upon this place when looking for a brow waxing/tinting place. It was a little more expensive than my spot in San Francisco, but I really liked the woman who did my brows and it was super convenient to work. I went once and had a great experience, so I decided that maybe this could be my regular spot. Second time around, I still really liked the woman doing my brows, but something definitely went wrong. It did kind of feel like the wax was going all over the place, but initially my brows looked good and my eye area was slightly red but nothing crazy. Next morning, I woke up and my EYELID WAS BRUISED. I spent some time thinking about the right way to handle the situation, and decided to directly call the shop, cancel my next appointment and explain why. The girl that answered the phone was very apologetic, canceled my appointment, and told me that their esthetician would call me back as soon as she was done with her current appointment. And..... I was walking by this place and saw through the window that they sell cosmetic products so I decided to come in and look at what they had available. I found several different cosmetic items for face and eyes. I saw a couple of pretty shades of blush so I decided to take both and try them on. One of the two ladies who were working at the time took my to a room with a mirror and put a little of each product on me just so I could see which one I wanted to buy. I decided on one and brought the item to the front area to pay for it. The person at the register seemed very nice and rang my order in and wrapped my product in a cute little bag with the store logo on it. The cosmetic items they sell are of good quality and the color is long-lasting. I definitely would like to come back and try one of their skincare services. read more

I've been going to Glow regularly for Brazilian waxes since 2012 and I refuse to go anywhere else. Beautiful clean salon, convenient booking (online or via phone), WONDERFUL highly talented aestheticians and overall just a perfect place for getting your sensitive bits waxed! They used a blue wax which I don't find to be painful. I don't live anywhere near the area but driving through traffic on 93 is absolutely worth it to get a Brazilian wax at Glow! Had a lash lift and tint. The lift was not what I've had in the past. The only way I know the tint was put on is that I have black on my eyelids. And I have some sort of glue on my lids as well. So disappointed and a waste of money. read more

So, I came here for an airbrush tan because this place has solid 4-5 star reviews. My usual place is $70 for a spray tan, and I was finding it too pricey. This place is closer to where I live and only $40 (they were also having some other kind of promotion and I ended up only paying $30). I was ecstatic! Then they gave me a loyalty card and after 5 sessions, the 6th is free! Woot! I WANTED to love this place. It's super cute and the staff was so friendly! I even wanted to try other services. I am still on the fence about coming back here, I hate writing a review after only one visit. But here's the thing. My tan was the worst. I get it, the hands are always super hard to do. But my fingers were ghastly white next to the top of my hand, they were so obviously missed. The worst part is, I recognized it on my way out of the salon and said something to the front desk, and I was told it would blend in. It didn't, and I was leaving on my trip that next day so I couldn't even go back to fix it. Then I realized the whole back of my arm was missed too. I ended up correcting it myself with St Tropez because I had no other choice, but the damage was done. On the whole it appeared more fake, uneven and my hands were just embarrassing. I did like how you can get a spray tan completely in the nude though, my other place has you wear a G-string and I hate the lines. I also loved that you didn't have to stand in front of a fan for 10 min after. I do think it would be helpful to have mirrors in the tanning rooms, so that you can watch the process. Ultimately I just can't recommend the airbrush spray tan here. Dammit. **Glow did contact me after this review crediting my account $40, should I return to Glow. Decent customer service. Nice and relaxing first time experience for a facial but the waxing service that followed left more to be desired. I have been receiving wax treatments for over 10years and have only once before had the results that I experienced similarly to that of those at Glow Beauty. To put it plainly the wax that was used did not remove the hair at the root and left a mess of unsightly ingrown hairs. I noticed stubble and hair growth literally the day following the service. This place is great! I came here for the first time yesterday and got a Brazilian. Upon walking in, it looks like a little boutique with jewelry and products cutely organized. There's free coffee and comfy couches to sit on while waiting. All the rooms are in the back and the place was very clean which is a must. On to the Brazilian. I had Laura who was great, we had a conversation the whole time and it was as relaxing of an experience as it could've been. She made sure to apply pressure after removing the wax which helped with the pain. My favorite thing is that they use blue wax. I've only had one other salon use in Harvard Square and I can say the difference in how your skin feels after is much better than the wax strips. She went over with wax strips after to make sure everything was gone. Overall, the service and price was great. I've already made my next appointment! read more

Had an appt that I thought was at 8:30a. I arrived at 8:22 and was told I can't be seen because I was late. My appt was 8a. So rather than taking me and doing what they could for the 45 minutes, they canceled my appointment and charged me $50 no show fee. I totally understand policy's but I was there. I went to glow 6 weeks before my wedding to try dermaplanning. I tried everything---visited dermatologists, sephora, ulta, other salons and was incredibly desperate. I have terrible facial eczema caused by stress and anxiety. At the beginning of my visit Laura did a facial assessment and made the decision that dermplanning was not going to work with my skin, it was too dry (note: this was the more expensive treatment). Instead she gave me an express facial for sensitive skin and wrote out directions and gave me sample products to try in the morning and at night. I was amazed by the results! She mentioned she has been working in the skin care business for over 13 years-- She REALLY knows her stuff. My skin has never been so smooth and I keep showing "before and after" pictures to my family and friends. I am so grateful she tweaked a skin care routine just for me! read more

I was looking for a new place to get my brows done that's a little closer to home and someone recommended Glow to me so I decided to try it out. I was so impressed, the customer service was great and the atmosphere was cute and comfortable. I saw Laura S. and she was great, really quick and friendly but did a great job cleaning up my brows (they were a total mess). It's now two weeks later and they still look like I just got them done. The staff members (Laura and owner Shellie) are great at what they do. They make sure you feel comfortable, provide quick consistent service, and are satisfied with the service before you leave. When you first go here the staff member provide tips on aftercare and how long to wait for your next wax. Not impressed. It's your stereotypical salon full of unprofessional catty women. Keep your conversations trashing your friends, clients, and coworkers to the back room not the front desk!! The service is sub par, not the best and not the worst, but the persnickety fake demeanor of the staff proves to be effort lost when true colors are shown. They boast their online system but don't trust it, you think you will have appointment but instead of contacting you to make arrangements when your appointment request is declined your left putting in all the effort trying to get in with your "glow girl." You are often given an attitude if late for your appointment, but don't expect to be seen on time either! There are far more other high quality salons with similar pricing that I'd rather due business with. read more

Waiting .... half- naked I sat there wondering if this was really how I wanted to spend my Saturday morning. Let me start with I had been working an overnight shift when I must have grown a brass set , and was just loopy enough from mild sleep deprivation to think that getting a Brazilian wax was a good idea. So after doing some yelp research I decided that Glow was the place for my inauguration into one of women's most barbaric beauty rituals. Plus one star for the fact you can go to their website and self schedule your appointment at 3am, for the next day!! Cut to eleven hours later, I stroll into the salon for my 2pm appointment with Jen; receptionist very nice to me when I check in. The waiting area is cozy and filled with women awaiting their various means of beautified torture. I sit down and my name is almost immediately called. Plus another star for being on time. We entered a small but cute room, and I stood their anxiously. Jen decided we would start with my eyebrow waxing ( yes a short reprieve from the inevitable). Jen was awesome she made small talk, and made me feel more comfortable. My eyebrows came out looking great. Then she said to me the dreaded words " OK so just remove everything from the waist down" and left the room. Nervously I sat on the table, she entered and got to work. Once again she was great, she explained what she was doing what I needed to do. Before I knew it, it was over; yes it was painful but not nearly as bad as I imagined it would be. She was so cool it totally made me feel less horrified about being half naked in front of a virtual stranger who I had only met ten minutes before. All in all great experience, or as great as that experience could possibly get. I might just become a convert. read more

I had never gotten a Brazilian wax before and after reading positive reviews on Glow and thinking that the price was cheap, I decided to go. I have to say out of all the decisions I have ever made (in terms of spas), going to Glow was the worst ever. I made my first and only visit to Glow back in October of 2012. I got to my appointment on time and was taken into the room right away. The esthetician I had gave me what felt like 10 seconds to get myself on to the table. She wasted no time getting to work. She used a hard blue wax that apparently was supposed to be better than regular wax but it hurt like crazy. She didn't wait for the wax to dry and seemed like she was struggling to get it off. When I looked down to see what she had done I was bleeding everywhere to which she said was normal. -___- Mind you, I had done my research to the full extent before I went into this appointment. She didn't explain anything that she was doing to me. When I did ask questions she gave me short answers. When she was done she dumped baby powder on me and told me to meet her out front when I was dressed. I STILL had blue wax on me when I jumped off the table. She didn't use anything to clean up the blood. I was so upset that I paid the $50 and left as quick as I could. I checked the time when I got in my car I realized that the whole process had taken 15 minutes when I had read that a good first Brazilian wax took half an hour. When I got home I found more wax stuck to me and I still had a massive amount of hair left behind which I decided to just shave off. I could not have been more disappointed with my experience. If anything I felt embarrassed and was very skeptical about getting another Brazilian wax. Thankfully, I have found a spa closer to home that does a MUCH better job. I have been going to Glow faithfully for the almost 7 years now and I must say that they are great at what they do! They have expanded over the years, always improving their image. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. They are always on top of their game! The salon's decor is modern and homey. They have a quiet sitting/waiting area with an array of reading material. Glow carries an assortment of skin products, jewelry, and make up found on their walls and a cute little make up station. I frequently buy their PCA Skin products and their Mineral Tint foundation (obsessed!). Glow offers online booking that you can access through their website. I almost always use their online booking system. I have never had a problem with booking, even when they first started. They also send out email confirmations to ensure/deny appointment requests. Jen F. is my esthetician and she is a waxing pro! Her brazilians are virtually painless and my eyebrows are finally normal again! Glow uses a special blue wax for brazilians that is much more gentle (especially those with sensitive skin) than the tradition wax strips. I also ask to use the blue wax for my lip which is also sensitive. My skin was in a troublesome state when I began getting facials at Glow. Jen helped me through the years and has gotten my skin looking great. She has taught me proper skin care, benefits of products, and helped maintain my skin through her fantastic facials! Whether it's a quickie 30 minute session, or a full 60 minutes, you come out feeling so refreshed! I like to get glycolic peels integrated with my facials. I have also recently began getting Microdermabrasion, which is a polishing treatment to clear off old skin cells and promotes new healthy skin cells. In the past, my experience with Micro's had not been pleasant. The procedure felt like sandpaper to the skin! But now, at Glow, their Microdermabrasion machine feels like the complete opposite. It's feels like a light buffing and totally not invasive. Now I can relax while getting my Micro's and still expect awesome results in the next weeks. You have to try it to see for yourself! Beauty doesn't have to be painful after all.. Thank God! I highly recommend everyone to try Glow Skin Care Salon. You won't be disappointed. Very convenient for people in the South Shore Area. Terrible service. At the busiest time of year and directly before an international trip for me, Glow mixed up/misheard/wasn't paying attention to the time and day I needed my appointment. As a service to their customers it seems the beauty salon was keeping itself open the Sunday prior to Christmas. Ok great, following a lash consultation, I stood at the front desk and read the sign that Glow was going to be open on the 20th and booked the Sunday appointment for eyelash extensions. I stated several times how it was convenient for me given my schedule and I appreciated the extended hours and the Sunday appointment. My consultant, KK, and the receptionist both agreed and we booked my appointment. Lo and behold something ended up mixed up and my appointment was booked for the wrong day. Please know that I am not a flighty or disorganized person. The exact opposite. I know my days of the week, my appointments and my own schedule. Since I booked the appointment in person, I was confident the day and time were correct. For heavens sake, I stood at the front desk and made the appointment. Glow does keep a great business practice in that they email appointment confirmations. It is my fault that I did not double and triple check my email. However, I should not have had so much faith in the business that they would book my appointment correctly. As a long time customer at another well known south shore beauty boutique, I think I'll keep my business there and avoid the confusion at Glow. Perhaps some improvements can be made at the front desk at Glow for the sake of other customers. As for this review, I think I am most annoyed at the lack of sincerity with the mix up and lack of enthusiasm to make up for the mistake and get me into the schedule. From other reviewers it looks like Glow does nice work, but buyer beware, your appointment may not be as scheduled. And they don't care if they made the mistake. Good luck. read more

I tried Glow because I just moved to Quincy and it was kinda ridiculous to go all the way back to Allston for a wax. It had been months since I had a brazilian so I knew I was going to be in pain. I'd only ever had experience with strip wax before and I have heard wonders about hard wax being better so I was excited to find a place that does the hard wax inexpensively. I do miss paying $30 though. I had a great experience there. Despite all the snow, I was able to find parking pretty easily and I think it was just my luck. All and all, this was the least painful wax I have had not counting the initial shock of the first strip (since it had been so long). This place was a bit confusing to me though. I had never been there before but I wasn't asked if I was a first time client so that the layout could be explained to me. I wasn't sure where to wait and I just kind of wandered til I found the waiting area. The other main concern is I didn't know how to tip. I went up to pay and they charged my card for the exact amount and told me to have a great day. And my aesthetician was no where in sight so I didn't know how to get her a tip at all. I was too embarassed to ask because they treated me like I had been there plenty of times before. So if anyone knows how to leave a tip here could you share? I have another appointment coming up at the end of February and I would like to double tip this time to make up for it. Bonus points for telling me that if I booked a return appointment at the end of my visit I would get 20% off my next visit. and even more of a bonus is February's deal is have a brazilian and get a free eye brow wax. read more

This is my favorite salon of all time! I started coming here in 2004 when I discovered they charged half of what my old salon charged for a Brazilian. They also advertised their use of a "special blue wax", which was supposed to hurt less than the traditional strip wax. I thought that was a load of bunk since getting the hair ripped off extremely sensitive parts of the body is going to hurt no matter what, but it actually was less painful! The blue wax doesn't adhere to your skin like strip wax does, so there's less of a chance of getting skin ripped off along with the hair. The staff here is great. Everyone is extremely friendly, and they treat all their clients very well. The estheticians know the names off all clients, not just their own. It's very clean, too. I had a facial once which was so relaxing I fell asleep. I understand they just added spa mani/pedi services too, and I can't wait to try that out. In addition, they were also recently voted number one on CBS's A list! read more

I had been going to Glow for years for both Brazilian and eyebrow waxing. __Jamie I saw for my Brazilians; Super nice, makes you feel comfortable and does a good job. As mentioned in other reviews they use a blue wax. This wax is a hard wax meaning no strips and is easier on the skin. __I still occasionally come in for my eyebrows and will only see Jen. She is the best, no question for eyebrow shaping/waxing. __Parking is awful as this is located on a busy street in Braintree. If your lucky you will get a spot out front, but usually you have to park out back. __Know they will try and sell you makeup and products. __Prices are average for the services offered. All in all one of the best salons for waxing. read more

I love everything about Glow and always have! The girls are personable and knowledgeable and I am 36 but because I've invested in Glow for 15 years I do not look it! They're my go-to for makeup for weddings and events and I wouldn't trust anyone else to wax me or give me a chemical peel! Sue M has taken great care of my face and brows and Jamie is fantastic for body waxing! Marisa is a doll and Jenn always makes me smile! Bottom line I've never had a less than fantastic experience and encourage everyone I know to go to Glow! You can't go wrong! I LOVE this place. Karen is SO fantastic and sweet and makes my brows look perfect every time. I'm always impressed when she remembers exactly what we were chatting about the last time I was in or what's going on in my life. You can conveniently book appointments online and everyone is always very friendly. I've also gone to Sue and Marisa and been completely happy with them, too. A brow wax is $16, bikini $24, brazilian $40. A little pricey for the 'burbs, but worth it for the pleasant and painless experience.
