Incompetent and dishonest. I asked them to transcribe a trial where the witnesses were speaking through an interpreter. We sent them two files. One of the files was transcribed as though the interpreter was testifying during an entire trial, so it was not clear which witness was speaking. Example: Judge: Where did you go after that? Interpreter: The store. The other file was done correctly and clearly reflected the name of the witness who was talking.  I asked why, and they said it was their job to transcribe exactly what was going on. This, even where they claimed to have transcribed hearings in the past. The supervisor, Renee, could not explain the inconsistency as to the speaker labels (why one file was correct and the other was not).  And she said that because they sent it to me in a word document that I could go back and fix it myself. Not only is it not my job but it also makes the certificate of authenticity (which they charge extra for) questionable (seeing as anyone can edit a word document). To make matters worse, one of the files was sent to us a day later than promised and contained mistakes in some areas (evident because the sentences in English are non-sensical). At one point they agreed to refund 10% but not sure if they did. I strongly advise against using this service for legal purposes. read more

I have used GMR a few times, and in general I am happy with their services. The work is ready when they say it would be, and the customer service is excellent. I always get responses to my questions in a timely fashion. If there is one thing that is not perfect, it's the quality of the transcription. There are more "(inaudible)" comments than I think should be, and not every transcriber is as good. Some of them could be better. I've been using GMR since January 2012. While not a heavy user, I've had several dozen transcripts from them at this point, usually interviews I do for work, but also meetings transcripts. Some of the material I send them is pretty esoteric -- in-depth conversations about technology, medicine, etc. I'm consistently impressed. They're thorough, accurate, correctly transcribe words I wouldn't expect anyone to know. They've handled voices with accents with no problem, and when there has been an occasional question or concern on my part, the customer service is great -- real people answer my emails, and quickly. I did try another service at one point a year or two back -- decent, but not as good. GMR does great work at a fair price, and I'll be using their services for as long as I need transcriptions. read more

After paying almost $200 for transcription services for my audio files, including two that had some background noise, I received some of the poorest transcriptions I've ever seen. When asked to correct the transcripts, the majority were corrected, one of which had poorer audio than the file they refused to correct. Playing the audio file loudly to others who've never heard it indicated the audio was clear enough to transcribe. Even portions of that file with poorer audio were transcribed properly but the important sections were horribly botched and they refused to speak to me on the phone or refund my money. Transcribe with them if you're doing a junior high school project and not much else, or risk wasting your money for any serious work. read more
