The tight roads and that one car in front of you at the light by cvs and the bci that drives 20 mph less than the limit. After going through all that without having a little bit of road rage. I know that I am going to be driving pass Gnaw mart and I can get a cold drink, tender loin for under $10.00. Have a good and positive experience with the cashier. Go and get in my car to drive the rest of the to Columbus. That sandwich is the only good thing on that entire highway other than the brown county inn. Recommended on Yelp, we were anxious to try their highly rated pork tenderloin. We had a hard time finding the place until we read that the "restaurant" is inside the Country Mark Gas station. When we pulled in, two really nice ladies were outside enjoying a smoke on this beautiful morning. They bantered with us about being from out of town. We indicated that we heard they had awesome tenderloins. One of the ladies told us the sandwiches were ready inside. So the food is prepared, packaged and in a heated case for pick up. The pork sandwiches can be purchased half or whole. For $2 additional, you can get any side. We chose poppers. Fixings are available at a little counter on the end. The sandwich was hot. The breading on the sandwich was nicely spicy and flavorful. The pork was very juicy. The bun was a little soggy from being wrapped and sitting. The poppers were good. There is a room in the back with banquet tables to eat at. The tables are clean. Unfortunately, there were unsupervised kids running around screaming that made eating challenging. So we ate outside. All in all, super friendly service and a very good sandwich at a great price. read more

Our neighbor across the street recommended this place for their tenderloin after I hiked the Laura O'Hare Preserve Nature Trail. I think I counted 12 tenderloins go out from the time I ordered until my dog and I finished it off at the picnic table out front. Their reputation is well deserved. Nice and thick and well breaded and seasoned and they had the classic lettuce, tomato pickle onion, and condiments to the side. Crinkle fries and a drink made it a combo and my drink was free. Regular tenderloin sandwich is generously sized enough to share between modest eaters. Mon-Fri, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., lunch special gets you a side and large fountain drink for $1 more (fries, chips, wedges) or $2 with upgraded sides. Fries are crinkle cut (but you get a lot). The food served here is fresh and mostly homemade. My main concern/complaint is That the Tenderloin they serve is not the recipe that made Gnawmart famous. They are advertising a product that they don't have. The original owner did not sell them the recipe when he sold them the shop. The fish is really good! read more

The Hoosier pork tenderloin is the state's contribution to the culinary arts and, while the state does not legally have a state food, it does at least recognize it in the tourism brochures. In fact, the Gnaw Mart is recognized as the reference implementation. The State of Indiana website actually links right here to the Yelp reviews. If you've never had a Hoosier pork tenderloin, the basic premise is that a mallet is used to spread the meat as obscenely wide as possible to where you will eat a sandwich worth of meat from the outer edge before you even encounter the bun. It's then breaded and fried up and served fresh to you. The Gnaw Mart has seating for about 25-30 but despite its rustic charm, it's never too busy on the weekend. In fact, despite being about 15 minutes from any town, it is always packed at lunchtime midweek. It's worth it to make a stop if you find yourself coming off of I-65 and heading for Nashville or Bloomington. Experience the real Indiana. read more

Excellent Breaded Tenderloins. These business has been located in 3 areas here in Brown County. But the quality and quantity of their Breaded Tenderloins have never changed. And their following has also only increased. We are usually in the area visiting our niece and grand niece as we were 2 weeks ago and always stops by for a visit and great sandwich as we did recently. We saw this place on yelp and wanted to try it. on a visit here from California and was driving this way through This little town to Indianapolis. We love to try local spots. It was delish, and big We got the lunch combo. We split a sammie, fresh chips and a Dr. Pepper. They have a condiment station where we put pickles, mayo and lettuce. It was crispy and hot. The Gnawbone Tenderloin is the center of the Tenderloin Universe. Hand pounded and breaded daily using locally purchased pork, this is the best tenderloin I've ever had. The meat is thick and it is pressure cooked so it's not greasy even if you get it to go and drive all the way back to Indy. My ususal strategy is to buy the full Gnawbone, cut it in half and eat half there and take the rest home for dinner. It re-heats nicely in an oven or toaster oven. If you are looking for a fine dining experience, look elsewhere. You sit at long tables in the back of the store, eat off of paper plates and drink from styrofoam cups. But if you are looking a truly great sandwich, THIS IS IT. read more

So this is a little gas station. You would drive right passed it, but don't. The pork tenderloin is fresh made to order and by far the best I have ever had. I grew up on them so I know a pork tenderloin. You can add fresh lettuce, tomato, pickle, jalapeño mayo, mustard and spicy mustard. As much as you want. The onion rings are really good to no minced onions. They have fried gizzards, livers and a bunch of other yummy deep fried treats. It's a must stop. read more

Coming from Louisiana most recently, eating awesome pork products in an uninviting gas station in the middle of nowhere is nothing new. That being said, I've now traded my weekly link of boudin (Cajun rice sausage) for a deep fried pork tenderloin, typically in the form of a sandwich. All the guidebooks say this hole in the wall in Gnaw Bone (outside of the beautiful tourist town of Nashville) is THE place to go for this signature Hoosier dish....and now I understand why. This place serves a delicious tenderloin that was tied for the best I've ever had (I've had about 10-15 so far). BUT, it was the best value by far, and everything was made fresh (I'm not sure if this is the case when they get busy, though). Highly recommended for those in search of the perfect pork tenderloin sandwich, and you're only a few miles from some of the nicest parkland in the state. Next time I swing by SR46 to/from Bloomington or Nashville, I'll definitely be going back for more. read more

Stopping at the Gnaw Mart while in Brown County came highly recommended by a friend. I was reluctant at first to dining at a gas station, but being a fan of the Hoosier Tenderloin sandwich, I just had to give Gnaw Mart a chance. I was a bit fearful of a recent rating that claimed that the tenderloin was a frozen, mass produced version of a classic. Nothing could be further from the truth! Even though we entered the station shortly before closing, the attendant opened up the grill and quickly prepared us a few of the famous tenderloins. These monsters were battered right in front of us and fried to perfection in some sort of pressure fryer. A short time later the tenderloins emerged ready for consumption! Some mayo and American cheese was all that was needed to compliment the perfect-pork! All I can say is that this is one of, if not THE best tenderloin I've ever ate! 5 Stars is no bull!!!
