This restaurant is inside of a hotel establishment. Don't overlook it because the service and food was good. I ordered the Pot Roast Sliders and mashed potatoes. The sliders were teeny tiny! The roast beef was delectable! I was served 3 of them and I could have probably ate 6. The mashed potatoes were also tasty but they were served with chicken gravy instead of beef. I didn't specify which gravy when I ordered. I assumed pot roast would come with beef gravy. My friend had a grilled chicken breast sandwich. She asked for barbecue sauce on the side. She was surprised that she was charged $1.00 for a portion size cup of it. Hmmm. I would never have guessed that that would involve an extra charge. We spent the weekend in Nashville, IN. Had the opportunity stay at The Seasons Lodge. They have the Rafter's Restaurant on premise. We tried it on Friday Night and were really pleasantly surprised with the meal. We both had fried chicken with mashed potatoes/gravy and green beans. All was delicious. Very down home, fresh and tasty! I did not take a picture. However, we decided to try it again, tonight, Saturday. I took photos as we dug into the plates. Ralph has a tenderloin with onion rings. I have to knock this restaurant down a star. Lately, every time I call and ask for takeout, they say they're not doing it. Being curious, I drive over there and hardly anyone at the restaurant is in the parking lot. I called on a Thursday, then Friday, then Saturday and got the same answer. Called today as well and was met with, yet again, "no take out". Why? This restaurant is only open Thursday-Sunday anyway. Don't you want business? Doesn't seem like it. It seems like none of the "Brown County" restaurants serve fried chicken anymore. Sure, you can find chicken nuggets, chicken tenders and wings but not the down home taste Brown County used to famous for. Going to the Nashville Playhouse last night we decided to try Rafters as they serve a "fried chicken dinner with fried biscuits", what I call a Nashville tradition. We were not disappointed. We made a reservation and explained the rest of our plans for the evening. They seated us with a smile, asked about what we were seeing and got our drinks. I had a pickle bloody mary made with Pickle Whiskey. It was so tasty I almost ordered another but remembered the dinner I was ordering. Our order was taken and it seemed like no time to this delicious plate of steaming food was served. It was probably the best fried chicken I have ever had. Too much to eat so some had to come home. The mashed potatoes and white gravy were yummy and the fried biscuits were a great addition, I would go back in a heart beat. We got out in new time, had time to park and find our seats thanks to the outstanding service at the Rafters. Sorry I didn't take pictures, we began eating before we thought about it. My husband and I stopped in here quick for a drink before heading to our accommodations in brown county. It's a nice restaurant inside of a hotel. The ambience and clientele were quite nice but the views took the cake. We weren't here long but we're real glad that we stopped. Everyone seemed to like their food, so we'd love to eat here next time we come. The bartender was quite slow and wasn't overly friendly, but it wasn't a big deal at all. I just didn't think the food was good. I read reviews before we came as we were visiting the area. We had fried chicken meal and the Mac n cheese w pulled pork. Also an appetizer of queso. I didn't like the queso or salsa at all! The fried chicken was very mid. The leg looked like it had a giant bite taken out of it, but was placed on my plate so I couldn't see it at first. I think it all stuck together because there were lots of crunchy parts missing. It was also very greasy. I think it might be "broasted" and not fried. The thigh was rubbery and had not been cleaned, lots of gross parts on it that rendered it inedible. The mashed potatoes tasted like bob Evans I can buy in a container, which are good, but they're not homemade in kitchen. Green beans were canned green beans with lots of half cooked onion added. My husband's Mac n cheese was mid, frozen Mac n cheese with some heated up pulled pork and a few green onions added on top. Bbq sauce was good, tasted like sweet baby rays. Fries were extremely over done and tasted like dirty oil. Fry sauce was gross. Of all the restaurants in the area, we were highly disappointed to have chose this one. Will not be back. read more

First , I must tell you that I'm stingy with 5-star ratings. Thus, although we had a very nice experience on this, our first, visit to the new Rafters Gastro pub, I have to hold back one star. Service: superb. Liz was our server. Perfectly attentive, friendly and upbeat. Helpful without being overbearing. Atmosphere: The remodel is beautiful! All done in very good taste to create a comfortable, trend-right environment appropriate for the natural surroundings of Brown County. (See pics.) Food: Fish and chips, which my husband had, were tasty according to him. I would have preferred a bit more crunch, but the flavor was good. They use whitefish instead of the traditional cod, so that, being a more tender fish, may have made the difference. But the filets we're steamy hot, and the fries were tasty. I had the Southwest Chopped Salad and substituted balsamic vinaigrette for their avocado dressing. The salad was good but not outstanding. Hmmm... well, I did eat EVERY bite, so I can't complain about it too much. Lettuce (romaine) was fresh and we'll chopped. (See pics.) All in all, we will return and look forward to trying other menu items. Looking good are the tenderloin sandwich (a Hoosier fave, of course!) and Rafters signature pot roast sliders (caramelized onions and horseradish sauce, I think). The wife and I visited again last night. I wanted to try the Pulled Pork but was not brave enough to take on the Slap your Momas Face off BBQ sauce. Instead I played it safe with the fish and chips. Again the fish was well prepared, this time with nice crunchy edges. The fries were prepared as before. The meal arrived hot and very tasty. The wife had the tender loin, which seemed a little small compared to other places around. It looked thick and the wife said it was very tasty. She also had the ham and bean soup which she liked very much. The wife opted for a desert a peach Cobbler with ice cream, both of which she liked very much. read more

Nice restaurant located in Nashville Indiana. They have a spacious bar with plenty of drink selections and beers. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Service was good (and they were busy on this Saturday evening). Friendly staff in a rustic setting. My only disappointment is they close at 11 pm even on weekend nights. We attended a concert just down the street that didn't end 1045 so the place was closed when we got back there. Would recommend staying open until 1 am on Concert Nights to accommodate those staying on the property. I know, easier said than done due to staffing issues. Anyway I would recommend both the restaurant and the Inn. Four stars only because of the hours open. read more

I got the southwest salad without cheese and some steamed broccoli. It was ok and fair for the price. My one star is not for the food as we didn't eat! Do NOT, I repeat Do NOT waste your time. We decided to try this place on Saturday night. We walked in and waited at the hostess area as the sign stated wait to be seated. As we stood there, three waitresses walked by not a word and the bartender looked at us probably four times. Nothing. I could see if they were busy but there were many tables empty and someone should have at least said we will be right with you or SOMETHING. The line behind us continued to grow. I guess they are not concerned with ensuring the businesses success. Needless to say after 15 minutes of NO ACTION from the staff, we left. Management obviously has no clue or doesn't care. We love this place! It's become an almost weekly stop for us. You just need to watch who is playing at the music center. It's impossible to get in before a show without a reservation. First visit and likely our last. I didn't have any personal objection to the food I ordered (pot roast sliders). They were very good. But others in my party had problems with their orders. One ordered pulled pork tacos and said there was no sauce on them at all, and they were dry. There were significant issues with the service. We could tell the staffing was low but were willing to just go with it. We were seated and had menus for at least 20 minutes. Someone came and got our drink order, then quickly left, even though we were probably ready to order by that time. At least 10 minutes went by before the drinks came out. The person who brought them was a different person than the one who had taken our order, and she set down a few of the drinks, then left our table to drop off another drink nearby and came back. Because she wasn't the original waitress, she didn't know which drinks belonged at our table. Quite some time went by, and a third person came to our table with two orders (of four), but they didn't belong to us. Our original waitress showed up and tried to intervene and the person carrying the orders stomped off back to the kitchen with the food looking upset. At least another 20 minutes passed before our orders finally showed up. All told, we waited more than an hour from the time we were seated until our orders came. Like I said, I had no trouble with the way my food tasted. But service should count for something too. It was just odd the number of different wait staff who kept stopping by. read more

We came in here shorty after they opened for the day. The menu online looked promising along with a couple of good reviews. We stopped in on our way to do some shopping. It's very clean and the person that seated us was nice. Our server Janet seemed a little irritated when my wife asked for Splenda and lemon but other wise was fine. I got a grilled chicken sandwich that didn't look like it touched a grill and They may have sprinkled a little pepper on it but that's about it, it definitely lacked flavor. I had to cut a lot of gristle out of the chicken which for me wasn't appealing. Probably won't be on our list to come back when in the area. read more

What a disappointment! While the atmosphere was nice, the food was definitely lacking. I ordered the grilled "wild caught" salmon with lemon dill sauce, which was pale pink and soggy, so I have a hard time believing it didnt come from a fish farm. It was tasteless and soggy, even with the drizzle of lemon dill sauce. I actually asked for additional sauce since the dish was so bland. Then meal came with a small bowl of mushy canned green beans and a dollop of mashed potatoes with some kind of commercial tasting gravy. I'm not sure what flavor the gravy was supposed to be and I'm not sure if the potatoes were real or if there were flakes. Almost seemed like they were half real and half flakes. Odd. Unfortunately, my meal was just sad. My friend ordered the southwestern salad, which was nothing more than lettuce drenched with dressing with a miscellaneous black bean and kernel of corn thrown in here and there. Again, pretty sad. She sent the salad back to the kitchen and ordered the fish fry. She was told the fish was cod, but the texture was mealy and strange, not meaty like cod should be. My husband ordered the Applebutter bacon burger, which was basically a bacon burger with a light smear of applebutter on the top bun. My husband said the burger was pretty good, but there wasn't enough applebutter to taste. On a good note, we all enjoyed our cocktails. We are locals and will give Rafters another try in a few months, but if the quality doesn't improve on our next meal, we won't be going back. read more
