I think they strive to offer as much local as possible, whereas these days WF does not, so kudos to them for that. I don't want my tomatoes from Mexico if they are in season here. That said, you may not find everything you're looking for as the selection varies, but I can always count on finding an organic baked potato and I'm not going to find that at Robert's, the neighborhood supermarket. I used to think pricing was super high here, but I no longer feel that way. In fact, they are often cheaper than Robert's, as it seems like they are just pricing for tourists looking to stock their vacation rentals. They have a good selection of vegan items, even locally-made cheeses and meats, in addition to the commercial brands. And if you hit it at the right time, there's locally-made vegan baked goods, too. They have a modest wine and beer selection but still convenient if you need it. I think the neighborhood should support the Food Co-op. When it first opened, there was all this strange begrudgement around it, "we wanted a real supermarket," but when that so-called "real" supermarket opened it was a bit of an eye-opener for most of us ($7 for OJ five years ago was unheard of, but of course most of us wouldn't bat an eye in this economy).

This review is on the service deli sliced meats…read more Tuesday afternoon shopping. Store had a reasonable number of people but not crazy busy and no one waiting at the sliced meat counter. Decided to purchase fresh, unique cold cuts for husband's lunch. Opted for Rosemary Ham and Sweet Chili Turkey Breast. Sounds great, right? Not so much. Employee behind the counter was emptying one container of a liquid into another. She didn't see me. I walked away, came back and made a point to get her attention. I placed my order for 1/2 lb each and said I'd be back. I returned in about 5 min and the order was on the counter. I thanked her; no response. Made a sandwich for my husband the next day with the ham. Tasted it and was surprised by the underwhelming taste of rosemary. He remarked the same when I asked him that evening. The ham was fatty, and didn't have any visual evidence of being rosemary seasoned. I even tried a different piece with no luck. The sandwich the next day was with the turkey. It was so shredded I took a picture of it in the bag and out, because I couldn't believe someone expected me to make a sandwich out of it. If it had been my deli counter, I wouldn't have sold it. And since it was a bit dry (maybe it had been unwrapped for a while?), I added extra mayo. Husband commented that evening he didn't get Sweet Chili out of it and it was dry. Turkey was $15.99/lb and ham was $16.99/lb. Husband said next time just buy something in the commercial cold cuts section.

I wasn't here to do anything else but buy a pack of cigarettes. My turn and I get to interact with the employee finally. I'm not going to lie, he was looking like he was having a bad day and could quite possibly rip my head off. But it was all a facade. I had a pleasant interaction and ended up chatting with him a bit. Even cracked some jokes back and forth. Of course I was floored by the fact that cigarettes were cheaper than back in Pennsylvania. Almost made me want to buy several more before I headed back home.
