We chose Go Driving School for our 14 y.o., based upon friends' recommendations, and we couldn't have been more pleased. We drove from Topeka in order for our teen to take this course, and found we weren't the only ones driving in from surrounding areas to enroll in this excellent school. Our teen felt such a sense of ease and accomplishment in completing this course with Go Driving, and we wholeheartedly recommend it without any hesitation. Registering online through their website, and scheduling both the classroom and driving portions of the course was easy. Communication was absolutely excellent between Go Driving and students/parents throughout the course- via e-mail, handouts, brief parent orientation, and face-to-face instruction. Walter has a true gift for teaching--he's funny and friendly, engages the students and quickly learns their names, makes excellent and memorable points, and is a real pro. You couldn't ask for a better teacher, in any subject! Our teen loved the classroom work, learned a lot from Walter, and was able to recite back word-for-word the important information and lessons Walter taught the class. For the driving portion of the course, our teen drove with both Alan and Diane, and thought both of them were excellent: friendly, knowledgeable, relaxed, and able to teach the hands-on portion in a way that built confidence in a new driver and helped important lessons stick. Go Driving Lawrence provided an amazing experience for my mother-in-law. She is 57, a recent immigrant (hardly speaks English), and had never learned to drive. Walter provided engaging and thorough instruction with my wife acting as a translator. My wife was so impressed with the ease that he made the class engaging for the younger drivers and the couple of older first-timers. Apparently, many international students at KU seeking local instruction have honed his ability to teach to wide range of learning styles and situations. Administratively, the web site scheduling is a breeze. However, I found Walter responsive to both email and phone communication when I wanted to make sure that this driving school could accommodate our situation. It was surprising to us that Kansas law allows the school to administer the driving test, so there is a lot less stress than the idea of going to the DMV to take the exam. Walter ensured that we had all of the necessary paperwork so that our trip to the DMV for the license after the course was very easy. The entire experience makes this school a bargain (it was already cheaper than a couple other schools I checked--I actually think they should charge more for the exceptional service and instruction that is provided). I feel it would be unfair to not write a review for Go Driving School LLC because I know there are people who are searching for a driving school but can not decide which to go, just like me 2 weeks ago. As an international student without any driving experience, I went to my first class with a lot of doubts, however, as I saw my instructor, Walter, everything that I concerned about just disappeared. Overall, the classes are iterative so that even though tons of information was delivered, you still can catch them. I missed only one question in the 2 writing test combined and I was also able to complete the program and get the licence at a minimum time required. Knowing that I had no experience or knowledge about driving before, this is how impressive the driver education offered by Go Driving School is! In a word, Go Driving School provides a fantastic driver education and would defiantly be a good choice if you are still looking for a driving school. As an international student at KU, I was a little..okay, well A LOT nervous about learning how to drive in Lawrence, KS a college town, or in America in general. But Mr. Walter Olker, my driving instructor was a gem of a teacher. He made sure I and my other friends (other international students) always were understanding everything in class and comprehending the rules- was sensitive to differences in driving cultures and courtesies between here and our homes. The documentation process was made easy and explained very clearly by him. But what was most important, was that he always made you feel at great ease behind the wheel, gave constructive and honest criticism and humoured you with silly jokes and cookies! I was recommended to learn from him by 3-4 of my townie friends and only then did I decide to learn from him- I would definitely then recommend anyone else to benefit from a comprehensive driving school experience from GoDriving! read more

We had such a great experience when our first son was learning to drive a couple years ago that I didn't hesitate or think twice where our younger son would take Driver's Ed. Walter provided an environment that made both of my kids feel at ease while driving. I was extremely impressed with the amount of tasks that my kids completed during their drive time. With the completion of the course Walter emailed me an itemized list of what was covered, specific to each of my children. The list also included how much time was spent driving with one of the instructors, and the amount of miles that were covered. The price is very reasonable for the value of the education. Walter (the instructor) truly cares about his students and creates a calm, enjoyable environment to learn in. I wasn't crazy about driving and never did until my parents forced me to finally get my license. I appreciated Walter's sense of humor and how he was always trying to make students feel at ease. Even when I made errors, he didn't treat them like mistakes. Instead, his attitude and demeanor made them feel more like "things to improve upon", which is difficult to do effectively when dealing with something as serious as driving. My son attended Go Driving this spring and before he went, he literally had an hour of driving practice with me in a parking lot. He was nervous and anxious and worried he wouldn't pass, but by the time he sat through the classes and then drove with Walter for 6 hours, he felt much more at ease. He even asked when he would be getting a car! (For years, he said he would just "marry some woman who could drive him around" because he was so scared to drive!) After his last driving lesson, he told me that he was "sad that he wouldn't see Walter anymore!" Instead of solely focusing on what the rules are, they provide detailed and vivid rationales for why the rules should be the way they are. This is extremely helpful for independent decisions in various contexts. Instead of treating students as money-bringers, they treat students as friends, and sincerely care for their safety. It is a relaxed and comfortable learning environment. Also, it adapts to fit individuals needs, instead of being over standardized working flow. The length of the program various from persons to persons (4 sessions of 2-hour lectures + 6 hours behind the wheel). It is a relative slow pace but building up confidence and understanding within a month. Very impressive! read more

We just completed Driver's Education certification for our 15 year-old son, and we couldn't have been happier with the experience! Walter came recommended to our family, so we signed up. While it was a drive to Lawrence for us to complete the classroom instruction, we were able to make the driving times where he picked up and dropped off at our house. Our son really enjoyed it, and his drive time with Walter was calm, fun, and instructional. He still repeats some of Walter's instructions when he drives and advises us on them too. This was a GREAT experience for my teen driver who had very little driving experience (only had driven in a parking lot and around the block). Everything was very organized and easy to understand - from the classroom work to the actual driving. Walter has a great way of communicating with the kids and made it very easy for them to understand and felt comfortable behind the wheel. Walter is an excellent teacher and is very good at making novice drivers (like myself, a 29 year old Brit who had never been behind the wheel before) feel comfortable.
