The main office doesn't respond to anything. Don't expect any help if the local rep isn't being helpful. I wouldn't bother signing up as a free agent without knowing members of the team/the captain pretty well. Some of the captains they rely on are as rude, dishonest, and incompetent as the league officials. The league will tell you they can move you to a new team if you don't get along or are mistreated by the team you're assigned to, then they will wait too long or end up not bothering/lie and tell you it's too late as apparently this league is too serious. Even if there are games remaining in the regular season. If you like having rainout games not being made up and credits not being offered as stated in the terms and conditions then go ahead and sign up. If you like being told specific rules have been disregarded because of apparent captain votes the league didn't announce go ahead. If you want to be assigned to a field you didn't sign up for with no explanation or apology, then be scheduled to play starting as late as 10pm go ahead. This is a ripoff and inconsiderate. I have been polite and am being treated like crap. Don't bother discussing refunds in any circumstances. They probably wouldn't give one even if they cancelled the season. If the league disbanded they would probably try to give you leftover shirts as a comp instead of your money back. One word, two syllables...Kickball! Yes, yelpers this game doesn't stop in the 3rd grade on the playground. GOkickball is an adult kickball league in Atlanta and you'd be surprised how it all comes back to you when you step on the field. I played in the summer league (they have a league for every season) and had a ball - pun intended. There are definitely some hardcore players, but everyone is out there to have a good time. I'm not the most athletic person but I like to think I brought something to the team. My team played on Wednesday nights, but there are also Thursday and Sunday night teams. They all come together at the end of the season for the finals - yes there is an overall winner and they get a trophy (in addition to bragging rights). There are constant flashbacks to the school yard except during the finals. It's a full day of kickball, not just a thirty minute recess game. Everyone brings food, drinks, lawn chairs and competition. If you join a team, try your best to make it to the last round because its the best part. I joined Go Kickball to add something new to my life, and I'm glad I did. I signed up as a free agent ($56 and a free t-shirt), and was lucky enough to get picked up by a kick azz team (so far, number 1 in our league with a 4-0 winning streak). The games can be fun but also intense because some teams want to win (my team is one of those). But the people are super cool and although there is sometimes tension around the calls, people are out there to have a good time, so everyone works to make the event fun. Some people do drink, but it's not out of control. Most of the drinking goes on after the game when everyone goes to a bar to hang out. That's the best time of it all - the game is the game and yeah, it's fun. But hanging out with people, getting to know them and enjoying their company makes it worth while. It's kickball and it's awesome. What other reason do you need to join up?! It's usually an incredibly fun time. Playing a game that even a five year old can do might sound a little cheesy, but it's always a blast. Besides, I assume that five year olds don't play under the influence of anything except kool-aid... us adults add a little vodka and beer to the mix before we're good to go! My only sour time was Piedmont Park closing the fields to save the grass, extending Spring 09 Season an extra month. I also hate playing serious teams - need I remind you that FIVE YEAR OLDS can play this game? Seriously, the game is for fun, duh! So if you do play, don't be that douchebag who pouts because you got out. *ahem* GoKickball has a lot of neighborhood support from restaurants and throws parties throughout the seasons. When you sign up, they ask about how competitive you are and match you with a team based on that. So if, like me, you are just there for a fun time (#teamfuntime) you end up with some cool people. It's super social during the games and you get to go out to a league bar after your game to hang out with all the teams in your league! GoKickball is the perfect organization whether you are looking for a fun afternoon activity or a highly competitive sport. My team and I have been playing at Lynwood Park for two years together. Even if we don't win the season, we still come back because it is the perfect excuse to start our weekends on a Thursday night. Games usually last an hour and I would highly recommend bringing a cool beverage to help you relax while you play. Format: You usually get 8 games which includes a playoff game. Because you can't control mother nature you may lose a game or GKB will do their best to reschedule. If you win your park division or league championship you get to advance to the city tournament. Competition here is fierce as you compete for the City Cup. Unfortunately my team has only made it as far as the second round but this year is the year (hopefully) Social: Everyone playing is welcome to go to the league bars! GKB has deals with them from discounted foods to free pitchers, etc. You will meet your new best friends at the bar playing flip cup or scoring the winning run on the field! GKB also does events throughout the year for those who can't commit to to a full season. The best one is the Cup N Hand tournament each December! I gladly hand over my $40 every season, to meet up after work for a happy hour with friends, and then head over to the kickball field for some good 'ole fashion, competition. Yes, it can get competitive. Should that mean if you've never kicked a ball, you shouldn't sign up? NO. Every team is different. I've played on 3. You really don't have to be highly athletic or posses tons of kickball skills to join in on the fun. Everyone is out there to have a good time, and if you have that same attitude, you'll be playing every season too. Things you should know... 1) You have to be 21 to play 2) Restaurants that sponsor Go-kickball provide drink specials for Go Kickball teams. 3)Lots of convenient field locations 4) 11 people on the field @ a time, @ least 4 ladies on the field each inning. DUUUUDDDEEE!!!! That about sums it up for me. I guess living in LA just shy of two years makes it tough to shake some of the colloquial surfer lingo, though I lived in the valley... wah wah... Moving on: Everybody has to join GoKickball! I'm not even asking. Let's go back to the 3rd grade. I know it was the same for everyone. Well, except the getting shot down by the same girl over and over and over on the playground all year, until she eventually said yes. Yes to what? I don't know. I don't think I knew at the time, except that a BlowPop ring could sure come in handy as a sign of my love. Well, she is married and has a kid, now, and I'm... Well, I'm still in school, BUTTTT WE ALL LOVED RECESS!!!!! And, what did we love about RECESS??? KICKBALL!!!! Yes, it seems juvenile at first, but there is nothing like getting out on the field (with a beer) and chasing down that big red ball. If only our teachers had taught us about Kickball AND beer in 3rd grade, everybody would be on this bandwagon already. It might even be an Olympic Sport. That said, you feel like a kid all over again. It's a great way to get out during the week, meet people, and have some fun! Afterwards, everyone heads off to do some mingling at the popular Tavern. Or, if you are like us, you just pick your own Tavern and do your own team bonding. Either way, I can't stress how important it is to get out there and play a little kickball once a week. I'm just starting my fourth season with Go Kickball. There are a few other league options in the area, and at this point I'm starting to consider giving them a try. It's not that Go Kickball isn't fun - it's that the league lacks organization, the website is kinda clumsy compared to others, and lately, the quality of refs has gone down noticeably; there are only two or three who pay any sort of attention or will explain a rule if you're unsure. Now that I've gotten the negative out of the way, the games themselves are fun. Like any co-ed league sport, you have teams that are going to dominate - we are not one of them, but we have fun and keep coming back season after season. The "douchey" teams aren't so prolific and everyone knows who they are so it's easy to take it in stride. I've met most of my best friends through playing in Go Kickball. I didn't know anyone when I joined a team and it ended being up one of the best experiences in Atlanta thus far. But I do wish that the league organizers would update their website, get their communications strategies down a bit (way too many emails), and tighten up the way they run the business. The price has gone up twice in my year of playing but the level of service keeps going down. Ultimately, that prevents me from rating the experience higher, especially with two or three other league options in town. read more

I joined Go Kickball on the invitation of a friend and had a great time. Our team was not that competitive but at least we could laugh. I kind of feel bad for those teams that really want to win at Kickball. I mean it is just kickball and arguing about rules and calls seems even sillier than the game. Go Kickball does a great job of facilitating play and keeping things chill. The umpires are great at being laid back and keeping things moving at a leisurely pace, which is how it should be. They also do a great job of dealing with competitive a-holes who manage to try and relive their failed high school athletic careers out on the kickball field. I just finished up playing a summer league with Go Kickball for the first time. They're organized and it was fun to socialize and play around for an hour every week, but they're just too damn expensive for what it really is. 65 dollars for an hour and a t-shirt? Come on. For that price I thought perhaps we'd get more goodies besides a basic t-shirt or a free pitcher of beer at our "team bar". I also didn't enjoy the refs. Our team was not fit. We were not good - but we did it for fun and it was clear that the refs favored more athletic, "talented" teams which seems very childish to me - I felt like I was in 8th grade gym class again. Overall, I will not being signing up with Go Kickball again. The league, in my opinion, is worth only about $35-$40 for what you get out of it. read more

These guys attempted to put a Marietta league together for the fall. There were not enough players interested, and, almost 3 weeks ago refunds were promised. Since then, there have been noting but excuses why the organizers are still waiting to send refunds. I play in one of the Atlanta-area leagues, and I can tell you that your mileage definitely may vary, depending on your league/officials. First of all, the entrance fee: $56 per person...for a t-shirt. That's literally what you're paying for. The price of admission does not measure up. The 'league bar' specials aren't worth the breathe to say 'I'm with the kickball group." Someone, somewhere, is getting ridiculously rich off this venture, I can guarantee that. Quick math: about 6 teams/league, 20 players per team. For each league (not 'location' as each location can have multiple leagues) the company takes in $6,720, on average (just from membership fees, doesn't include ad revenue/'league bar' kickbacks). And all you get is a shitty $6 t-shirt that you'll relegate to a dust rag after the season. Chew on that for a bit. Second, the officiating. Again, this is all dependent on your league, but if your league has a bad official, believe me, your blood will boil at the simply awful calls. One ump in our league plants himself at home plate and doesn't move (or say much, for that matter, so good luck getting the count, inning, or the score unless you ask), so a close play at second? He flips a mental coin to call it. Not to mention he's simply awful at balls-and-strikes, and literally can't even keep the count straight. I get the 'human error' but when 4+ calls are just blatantly wrong each week it goes a little past the 'human error' line. Needless to say, he ruins quite a few games. The worst part: its obvious the 'powers that be' spend 8 minutes on the schedule. We have had the same bad official (there are 2 in our league) for all but one of our 6 games so far, and it looks like we'll have the same one for our last 2 games as well. Its like getting stuck with Joe West or C.B. Bucknor for EVERY game. Next, the teams. The GK website has the word 'fun' plastered all over the place. But, in our league, we have a couple teams that take the word right out of the game, as all they want is the $8 plastic trophy at year's end. Running up scores, front-loading a line-up (there should be a rule to alternate guys and girls in the order, and increase girls on a team from 4 to 6, at least), complaining about miniscule rule violations while leading 10-0 in the 6th inning...things like that. The other team could try to have fun, but its difficult when you're losing 8-0 and the other team is attempting to get the score to 20-0 by game's end (power rankings effect standings, one way the league actually condones blow-outs). I understand that there will be an underlying competitiveness in the game, but keep it at that and on a fun level. There's no fun in a league of 7 teams when two teams are 7-1 at the end while all other teams are 3-5 or 2-6. In the end, a lot depends on your league, but I'm willing to bet that there's an umpire and/or team in every league as described above. And as I said, $56 for a t-shirt doesn't cut it. Yes, they have in-season events as well, but most are regional gatherings (sure, I'll drive an hour to just play kickball and pay for bar food) and sometimes come with extra cost. As far as organized adult leagues go, GK has a lot of work to do in my opinion to be able to call its games 'fun.' read more

The people that operate the league are good friends with some of the team leaders, but not all. If you try to start a team and aren't good friends with the league operators, you will get loaded up with all of the "free agents", which are basically the crappy players that nobody wants on their team. As a result, the teams whose leaders are friends with the league operators are always good. If you can't join one of those teams, get ready to lose. read more

Referees are unprofessional and assaulted players on our team, resulting in our team being kicked out of the league after only one game! No refunds offered. The so called investigation performed by Gokickball was a biased joke! Do not waste your money or time just to be mistreated by some pompus ref who gets paid to curse and push people around in front of families and children. I wish I had made a police report at the time because Gokickball would not accept that any of the problems occurred. What a joke of a company!!! read more
