This is a really great bar, located in the Brooklyn Arts District in Wilmington. Easy walk here from downtown. 4th Street here is very pedestrian friendly, as long as you stay on the sidewalks. :-) There are several places to get a drink along the street, some being micro-breweries. Goat and Compass is a very welcoming local bar in a great old historic building. Great indoor and outdoor seating. TVs inside for viewing games. Bartender was very professional, friendly and attentive. Being a bar, you got a full drink menu available, lots of beers on tap and in the bottles/cans. Wine selection is limited but it is a bar. They do take cash and cards. No Apple Pay. Highly recommend this place. read more

The ambience was festive & friendly with Christmas decorations. It is simple no frills pub with many options to select from at the bar. The place was well decorated with Christmas lights outside and brightly lit Christmas trees inside. The bartender was efficient and his service spectacular. We went to Goat and Compass on a Monday for trivia. The cozy English pub feeling was wonderful. Although the space inside is smallish, it accommodated seven of us easily plus many others. The emcee for trivia (holiday themed) was fantastic! We enjoyed a coffee flavored stout and stuck with it during the entire evening. There was no food this cold December evening but we had eaten beforehand. A really nice night and we will return. read more

Situated right on 4th, The G&C has quickly become our little go to spot once a week. Adorable little local pub with a TON of craft beer selections and extremely friendly service. The best part about this place is the huge back patio area with lots of leafy trees and twinkle lights to give it a cozy atmosphere. There's a porch swing and picnic tables and a Cornhole area. If you are from the north like I am, then you have probably never heard of it either but it's big here and is, as I've discovered, pretty fun. Every time we go on a Friday or Saturday there is always live music. I am actually pretty surprised that this place isn't ever very crowded from what I've seen. It's a great little spot and off the main beaten path of downtown but really worth the trip over. Check it out. (Oh, it's pet friendly too which is super cool. Looking for a family and dog friendly dive bar? Check out Goat & Compass! It is conveniently located in the brooklyn arts district which means less crowds and easy parking (they have their own lot!). #BAD doesn't even begin to describe this hidden gem. The inside is small but has seating at the bar and a large booth area that doubles as a stage for live music and open mic nights. Often times they will also have a food truck parked outside. Yes the service is wonderful however my favorite part about this bar is the back patio and the regular patrons. The back is open, with a swing, multiple picnic tables, heaters for the winter and a large tv to catch the game. This is my go to bar for a doggy play date because the back area is fenced. Tonight my wife ordered a bloody mary which was made to her preference with zing zang. She said it was perfect. I got a bottle of the torch pilsner because I wanted to try a different NC beer. The bartender was also very polite when I accidentally forgot to give a card to start a tab. If you haven't come here for a beer or a cocktail yet give it a try! You will be back just like all the other regulars and everyone will know your name ;) read more

I have been visiting the Goat and Compass for as long as it has been around. It is a great little neighborhood bar with great local regulars. It is the Cheers on North 4th Street and a pretty special place. The owners are amazing people who go out of their way to support their local community and to make everyone feel special and welcome. During the quarantine they have been working hard to give the bar a renovation and the old gal looks amazing! I hope the state of NC allows the Goat and Compass to open soon and everyone stops in for a cold drink and great company (while wearing a mask and appropriately social distancing). read more

The Goat and Compass is the neighborhood bar for the "Brooklyn Arts District." Real Estate agents call it the "Brooklyn Arts District", other people call it "NoFo", I call it the expensive part of the 'hood.. same difference. Totally clicked most of the patrons local who seem to think the bar is an extension of their living rooms!!! Not very welcoming

No effort to be safe in the bar. At a minimum there is no reason for bartenders and servers to not wear masks. Not a mask in sight.

Trista is my favorite bartender in Wilmington. Super pro, and somehow has time to talk, even when it's crowded. Eric runs the best open mic in town here every Tuesday night. This place is the perfect size, and has a patio out back. Bonus points for the hot dog stand that shows up out front periodically. read more

The interior of this place is four feet long by seven feet wide, so get used to the fact that the clientele consists of three people and a dog because sometimes it gets crowded. We're still in Wilmington so of course there are like four wide-screen television sets all of which are showing THE GAME. I guess if you're friends with the three clients and their dog, this place is really unique and cool but otherwise it's not. Bonus point for trying. read more
