Had a 2-hour tour reserved for Father's Day. MANY of the cars were broken down from the day before. The business did not call Saturday to cancel - they called Father's Day morning at 10:04 to cancel the 10:30 - we were already in Monterey. Walked through the door and was told that our tour was canceled due to none of the cars in stock were operational. They offered a refund and we accepted. We mentioned that we booked with Groupon. Were informed that the price was the same (so much for the advertised discount). Asked for a phone number for the manager and an email to lodge a concern. The front desk gave me a first name but did not offer a phone number or an email. Did not have one to share. Awful experience. Poor customer service. read more

The little yellow cars were a fun way to sightsee along Cannery Row and Lovers Point. We were disappointed in the little cars' upkeep. Our seat belts were hand knotted to the fixtures and the front windshields had duct tape securing them. The website gives the impression that there is a programmed iPad that walks us through the route. Instead, we were instructed to use our own GPS navigation on our phones also, the "speaker" for music was a worn out little portable thingy that was staticcy. The website should also inform that these do not reverse which makes for tricky parking. read more

What a fun way to explore Monterey! I'm so glad I randomly found Sea Cars during my Google search of cool things to do. My boyfriend and I were celebrating our third anniversary and wanted to squeeze in as many little adventures as possible upon our arrival from LA last weekend. I called earlier in the week to ask a few questions prior to booking anything, and the woman who answered said to book directly through their site, since they were having issues with third party tickets working in their system. Glad I was able to get that squared away, and I promptly made a Friday afternoon reservation for us. The location was easy to find, and while we did have to wait for about 15 minutes for someone to give us all instructions, everything was great once we selected our helmets and got the run-down of how to operate the vehicle. Our two-hour trip was perfect, and our only mishap was having to hop out of the car when we were sitting at a traffic light on a slightly upward slope. They do say to avoid hills, but we were just following the GPS provided in the car. My boyfriend quickly got out and started pushing the car, and then the driver behind us promptly jumped out of his car and helped us! The cars themselves could definitely use some touch-ups. The rearview mirrors were secured with strong tape, and they just seemed like they could have used some TLC. Overall, I would totally do it again and would take a few detours, since we ended up going through the suggested tour with about 30 minutes left in our time slot. read more

Such a fun experience I've been wanting to do since I moved here. A friend came to visit and it was a perfect excuse to finally do it. It's definitely a lot more fun riding in one of these scoot coupes than driving around town in my car. We got to make a couple of stops a long the way for pictures. Andrew greeted us with an abundance of enthusiasm! The car was a glorified golf cart but a lot of fun. Especially since I've never driven a golf cart on main roads of a city!! The pricing is reasonable and the GPS sucks, but we all have brains and hand held maps as well as the fact that their covered area at least for the 2 hour two is pretty small and very direct. They tell you on their website that the tour is actually 1 hour and 45 minutes with 15 minutes to stop and take pictures and then they tell you in person that the tour is actually 1 hour and 40 minutes and there are 20 minutes for picture taking! Reality is more like an hour drive and an hour for breaks and photo taking! The only real downside is the company's overall defensiveness. Nothing is perfect in this world but this is very fun, very enjoyable, I would definitely return as well as recommend. read more

The tour was ok. We rented the cars September 2021 for 1 hour. It was fun but the car I rode speed thermometer didn't work so didn't know how fast I was going and the speaker connecting to the tablet in our vehicle went out/ lost connection/ or just shut off, made the tour difficult once this happen. Wish the tour would Of worked better or wish it could of connected to my phone so I could of listen to it with my headset. The lady that was at the front desk helping us with the paper work and getting us started in the vehicle she was Mexican/ and had glasses was kinda of dumb and didn't know what she was talking about. It was exactly what we signed up for. We got lucky and picked a beautiful sunny day in Monterey/Pacific Grove/Pebble Beach. We selected the one hour tour which allowed for a great view of the ocean plenty of time on the coast... If you want to stop somewhere and have lunch in front of the ocean then maybe select a two or three hour tour which gets a little deeper into 17 mile drive I believe... But the staff was amazing it was very professionally run... I felt 100% comfortable driving one of these things and will do it again!! read more

My husband and I had a day off, so we both decided to have a spontaneous day with our daughter. We made reservations online, and choose the 1 hour tour. It was enough time for us to drive around without stopping. We're going to try the 2 hour tour next time, so we can stop and take pictures around the coast line. These cars are legal to drive on the road, because there are seatbelts and a registered license plate on each car. The minimum age requirement for passengers is 5 & up, and drivers are 21 & up with a valid drivers license. The car was faster than I expected, and felt similar to a cross between a mini car and a motorcycle lol. Customer service was awesome, the cars were great, and we definitely had a blast! We will make another reservation when we come to Monterey again. read more

After 6 months of discussing seeing Monterey, my boyfriend and I had taken a mini trip together to enjoy the sun and sea while it was still warm out. Monterey is home to some of the most beautiful secluded beaches in California, with apt of natural wild life roaming amongst the rocks in along the coast. Seeing all the beautiful photography and having fond memories of field trips, we decided we'd make it happen at the end of August. With all the opportunities to do in Monterey, there's a lot to consider when figuring out unique activities that aren't offered back at home, and with Groupon's tempting offer, we had booked our trip with Sea Car Tours! Sea Car Tours is a miniature convertible car that allows you to enjoy the sites of Monterey on a more personal , ground level (literally) , accompanied with a GPS that encourages you to stop and take photos and make memories. Each hour you ride with Sea Car Tours, determines your route. For the one hour, you'll follow a beach trail, two hours is along cannery row shopping center, and three hours plus is freedom renting one of the cutest vehicles in town! Since I had wanted two hours, we booked that option seeing that one didn't sound like nearly enough! However, had I been informed of the routes for each trip, I would've been more selective with my choice. Cannery Row was a very frightening trail to drive along, seeing as it was driving alongside natural , large , cars and down the shopping block, we both agreed after all was said and done we could've used our own car to do the same route (which we had done multiple times post trip!) The images on the website convey the monarch butterfly sanctuary as part of the excursion, but we hadn't had that opportunity which, to this day still confuses me. Most of our trip was spent along the highway passing the beach, and less stops were made. Had I known, I would've chosen the single hour or bought from the website directly to purchase the 3hour excursion. I will say, this car is incredible to drive and if you're in need of a car for cheap , this is a great idea. The helmets were difficult to tie, and felt like they kept coming off during our car ride, which was very scary from time to time, and the engine buzzes so loud it's hard to have a conversation or listen to music- the 3+ hour car has a silent engine and rides closest to a normal car than the others- which rides like a motorcycle with two handles to steer. Also- it can't back up! And only moves straight or angled when positioned correctly. I will say, this ride was a true bonding experience along with a trust exercise because it required a lot of strength and included many laughs at our mistakes and struggles too! This ride was incredibly fun all cons aside, but I would definitely recommend shelling money out for the four hour ride so you can drive along the beach, and see more things personally than from a mini motorcycle. Next time I'm in Monterey, I plan to put my hands into Sea Car Tours hands , but with a much longer excursion. read more

My friend and I walked in this past Saturday in the afternoon to rent a Sea Car. We asked the girl at the front desk what the prices were and instead of going over the prices with us, she told us "it's really expensive" and that we "don't have picture opportunities" other than the first few minutes so that we shouldn't rent one...We never asked about taking pictures. We walked out shocked that she worked there telling us not to rent the car. I hope the owner sees this message to help train employees on selling skills. I'm sure that girl is a great person, but she's causing Sea Car Tours to lose money. read more

This is a must for a day trip to Monterey! My boyfriend had a great time driving it, and we got to see such beautiful areas that we wouldn't have if it weren't for the car tour. The navigation was nice and easy, and the service was impeccable. The lady helping us was super sweet in helping us at the beginning, and the gentleman at the end was great and put everything away for us, even though we were five minutes late. Only downside is our mirrors kept folding inwards so merging was hard, but other than that I recommend it! read more

RENT A BIKE! My wife and I where super excited to take a tour around a new city we had never visited, the person who attended us typed the wrong tour, and we realized we were going the wrong way. We begin to try to find our way to the correct route. BUT OF COURSE THE GPS DIED ON US. Tried to search on our phones and it was difficult due to us not being from town. Got back to the place and the young lady said they knew the GPS system are going bad. HOW DO YOU SEND TOURIST ON A TOUR RIDE WITH A BROKEN GPS!!!! ( that's the point of the tour ) Didn't offer and refund even though we came right back after 15-20 min. Tried to go and talk to the manager and he was gone, called in a few minutes later and still gone. Never heard back. Don't waste your money on this... I am not one to ever put a negative review or even really review, but honestly this left me a bad impression of the locals! read more

You can't believe how much fun touring around Monterey in the Sea Cars is. We rented the the California Roadster with the red flames for 2 hours, but the two hours just flew by. Too much fun! Next time we plan to drive up to Pebble Beach for lunch so it's the 3 hour rental for us. Chris was super nice and even though we asked him question after question, we never felt rushed. When we got into the car we felt totally comfortable. Actually the Sea Cars are super easy to drive, we just had a lot of questions about where to go, eat, etc. You just gotta try this at least once while in Monterey. It's different and FUN! read more

Three words for this "company" unprofessional, untimely, fraud. Their unprofessionalism begins with staff in office who also answer the phone. Justin speaks quickly to try & get you to hang up and/or stop the conversation. He is loud, obnoxious, rude and lacks basic customer service skills. Staff isn't actually present when they TELL YOU to arrive, they don't have their product ready when THEY schedule you. They don't honor their verbal/written agreements. They take $ from people without providing the agreed upon service/product. Also their products are dirty, broken & flimsy looking (have video proof of damaged vehicles they are renting). We arrived when we were told to, they weren't open, we waited. The product we agreed to verbally wasn't ready. I initially signed up for 2 cars online. I lost money to get just 1 car instead (due to medical reasons). Called days ahead to request this change. We were told the switch could be accommodated for the same date/time. We arrived on time and we were told to wait another hour while they charged the cars we schedule. I said we were told they would be ready to go for again the date and time originally booked. When we questioned why they weren't ready, Justin again got flustered and said they weren't ready and oh well. He said we can wait, leave or use the 2 other vehicles originally booked. I advised him the switch was made for medical reasons, hence why I called ahead for the switch. As one driver was not able to actually drive. He had zero solutions or customer service regarding the situation. He kept repeating his " wait, leave or use the 2 other vehicles originally booked" mantra. We asked for owner/supervisor info, we were denied. When we asked for a refund as the product isn't ready & their lack of professionalism & timeliness is interfering with other plans scheduled and we were denied. The entire time we had to put up with a loud, rude employee getting excited over a simple conversation. I had to ask him several times to speak at a lower level as I maintained the entire time. Not sure if he feels the louder and more sarcastic he gets, it'll cause a customer to accept their lack of product, timeliness and just go away. I advised him I was not accepting his attitude & I would like a better solution. He said there wasn't one. I advised him this is a tourist town & there is a better way to treat people. He finally stayed quiet & still didn't offer an apology or solution. While the staff were pleasant enough, the car was not so much. We were given "Lucy," a yellow 2-seater. Super loud, strong exhaust fumes, no reverse, front and back end smashed. Not unlike driving a large yellow lawnmower. Cruising around was kind of fun, with its stick shift on the column, though it handles like a boat on three tiny wheels. My son wanted to stop for cocoa, and I parked on what turned out to be a marginally downhill slope. Car kept rolling forward no matter how many times I engaged the parking brake. When we'd rolled a few feet from the car in front of us, I told my son sorry, no cocoa, I can't take my foot off the brake. I restarted the engine only to discover - no reverse. We were trapped by a BMW and gravity. Ever pushed a car uphill? I'm 5'4" and 120 lbs. I threw out my back shoving that $&@#%^* car far enough up the hill that I could pull out again with its practically nonexistent turn radius. My son was crying and scared that we were going to hit the car in front of us. I was scared that my heart would actually explode struggling and shoving iLucy inch by stressful, sweaty inch up the hill. I ruined my UGGs shoving them in front of the wheels like makeshift chucks so I wouldn't lose ground between pushes. I now know why Lucy's front and back end were smashed - someone parked on an incline over 2 degrees and weren't as determined as I was not to pay out an insurance deductible. So thanks, Sea Car Tours, for terrorizing my special needs child, ruining my back and my boots, and depriving us both of what should have been a fun outing. Incidentally I was not offered a refund, though I did call mid-uphill battle to ask about the parking brake/reverse situation. Was told "sorry." read more

I cannot stress how fun this was, DEFINITELY add this to your itinerary if you are visiting Monterey as a tourist. I rented two of the scoot coupes for three people: my mother, my 17-year-old brother, and myself, and we all loved it! I was nervous because my mom is scared of EVERYTHING and my brother gets bored easily, but as soon as we were done, they were talking about how they wanted to do it again! We chose to do the two-hour tour and that was a good amount of time to see the main tourist attractions in Monterey, take a few detours, and stop to take pictures. I was initially interested in renting these, not for the GPS-guided tour, but because I wanted to whip around Monterey in a convertible-esque vehicle, but I really appreciated the tour feature. Yes, at times you cannot hear what the tour guide is saying because the vehicle is loud and the volume occasionally drops very low, regardless, I heard most of what was said and I learned a lot of cool and interesting facts. This was such a fun way to tour the area. We were in town for a couple of days on our honeymoon. We contacted Michael, and he told us to come on in. We filled out some paperwork (you will need your drivers license to operate because you drive on actual roads). Next we chose our helmets...don't worry, they have different sizes. After that we were taken to our little coupe. The sea cars lead you on a tour via a pre mapped route on a gps system. Michael gave us a tutorial on how to operate the car, and we were off. The car has a jack that you can plug into your phone to play your own music. We chose the 2 hour tour, which gave us 30 minutes stopping time. It took us through cannery row, along the beach, and through a wooded area where a deer crossed right in front of us! It was awesome. People were smiling and waving at us the entire time. At first I was worried about driving on normal roads, but the speed limit is 25 mph through most of the area. The sea car had enough zip to get us going. I totally was not expecting to have as much fun as I did in this wee car. Being a bigger person, I really didn't think I would fit for one thing. Greg, a super guy, assured me that I would be ok. And I was... and it was super fun. As other reviewers have mentioned, one does become a bit of a sidewalk show stopper. The sight of the little car tooting quite easily along Cannery Row brought smiles to folks around us. After a while, you might find yourself doing a royal wave to everyone. Yeah, you could walk the area. Yeah, you could use a normal car to explore the area.... but you can go more places with this little gem (pebble beach) and there is something just whimsical and fun about the experience.
