We rented a Porsche Speedster as I can't afford the real thing. Carly was our contact out of the Portola location. She was great. She is a real car girl and it was fun talking cars with her. She went through a checklist of things with the car and we were ready to roll. Cannery Row, Pacific Grove and all along the coastline with the top down. It doesn't get better than this! Booked a rental for my honey as a surprise for his birthday. The team here were absolutely fabulous from start to finish. Had a bit of a snag with the Camaro but it happens with old cars, the team told us options and how to manage and we were in great hands. We had an excellent experience with Monterey touring vehicles we rented a Chevy Belair convertible that was beautiful in teal and drove it to our wedding venue after our first look this summer. We received ample customer Service in detail on how to drive the vehicle and it made for excellent wedding photos and also our wedding video for a big day. My only concern was that there was a tough tone from the customer service representative. I had called to let them know that their online portal had undercharged me about $200 plus and That I owed them more money, and a customer service representative did help collect that money, but was not easy to talk to about the whole situation and spoke down to me with her words and tone. I called twice more before our wedding and believe I received the same representative and the same tone each time. What a great experience! We chose a 69' Firebird 400 which we drove to Carmel, where we picked up burritos for a picnic along Hwy 1 near Big Sur. The car was a great cruiser on the highway and it seemed in great mechanical condition. We got lots of looks and compliments during our trip. Jenna was the badass hostess who hooked us up with 2 1/2 hours for a two hour rate. We recently took advantage of one of MTE's newest attractions, that being the new audio tours they offer! We drove the coast on down the 17 mile drive on a guided tour of the area and attractions! Incredibly simple platform, no learning curve of any kind, and we did it in a ridiculously cool old corvette. The fact that they now offer audio tours is very clever. What is cooler than cruisin' through the nicest coastline in the country for the first time in a classic slice of Americana? Not much. Really enjoyed our experience with MTV. The whole crew was super helpful and thoughtful - from booking, to pickup, to suggestions on routes and restaurants. They even offered us blankets and beanies if there was too much wind in our hair -- there wasn't :) Oh, I also love how gas and cleaning (though you better not dare dirty up these bad boys) are included. Never fun when you have to refill after a rental. All in all, I can't recommend a better way to experience Monterey and Big Sur. Perfect from start to finish. read more

We had the most incredible day taking out the turquoise '54 Chevy Bel Air convertible along the 17 Mile Drive to celebrate our one year wedding anniversary. The car ran great and we got lots of waves from strangers as we drove along the coast. We did a half day rental (four hours) and that was perfect. We rented the 1965 Shelby Cobra for four hours and had a wonderful time driving along the 17 mile drive and the Bixby bridge. The car was in mint condition and purred and roared just like you would imagine a sports performance muscle car would. The booking online was very easy. Make sure you have a copy of your drivers license and car insurance handy that specifies the amount of coverage you have. The young man who helped us was clearly dedicated and passionate about his job. The owner was also there and was friendly too. On the day we rented there was absolutely no wait or red tape, which was greatly appreciated. This was an amazing experience. My fiancé and I planned a photoshoot in Carmel on Mother's Day, 2024. At the time of pick up, the agent was super nice and also gave us the option to drop the vehicle off after hours, since it was an evening shoot. He explained that we would need to call Heather, the owner of this shop, to open the garage and we may park the car and leave once finished. We arrived back to the shop at 7:30pm. We called Heather over 30 times to answer, on top of countless text messages. Not only did we have to wait for almost an hour to get any response from her, we had dinner reservations in honor of Mother's Day. All of which was missed due to waiting for Heather to respond. My fiancé and I were so lost on what to do, so we decided to lock up the vehicle, park it in their parking lot, take a video that it was locked and in the same condition we returned it in, and planned to keep the keys until Heather decided to call. It was already 8:30pm at this point and I don't know about you, but that's not how I wanted to spend my time in Carmel. As soon as we were leaving, Heather decided to finally call me back and stated that her staff didn't tell her there would be an after hours return. While being very frustrated, hungry after a long photoshoot, and missing dinner plans, I had every right to be upset. Heathers attitude was disrespectful, nasty, and she had absolutely no empathy for the situation and practically made it seem it was our fault for this situation. Can someone please tell me how that is my fault? She never apologized. Not sure if she understands English or not, but she was highly confused with what was going on after saying to her multiple times that "WE HAVE BEEN PARKED IN YOUR PARKING LOT WITH THE VEHICLE AND YOU HAVE NOT ANSWERED YOUR PHONE TO OPEN THE GARAGE AND THAT WE WERE ABOUT TO LEAVE". My fiancé STILL offered to wait and said she can open the garage and I can park it inside. She continued to be condescending and advised to "please leave the car where it's at and I'm coming" and made it appear we were stealing her vehicle and kept stating that she was "confused" as to where the car was. I'm confusing myself writing this, that's how astonished I am. This situation makes me laugh because I don't know how an owner, better yet a company thats at fault, could treat their customers this way. No empathy, no acknowledgment. I NEVER write a review on yelp, but I've never experienced an owner of a company speaking this way. Business owner to business owner, Heather please fix your attitude and show some empathy. You never know what someone on the other line may be experiencing, why Mother's Day is special to them, or the fact they were sitting in a vehicle for over an hour with a vehicle that's not theirs and have no idea what to do in a situation like that. Yesterday we rented the 1955 Ford Thunderbird, it was a last minute idea, although I have been following them for years on Instagram. It just felt like a perfect day for a drive. I called and talked to Shawn and discussed many of the options they had, there was so many cool cars but I was just so drawn to the yellow T-bird. We picked it up around 2 pm and drove down. The coast. Everything about this car was amazing, after about 10mins behind the wheel o got really comfortable again with it's vintage ways, from the drum brakes to the steering. It was a perfect days for a winter drive, nice amount of chill in the air but plenty of sun to keep us warm. The seating position was fantastic, like sitting on a comfy couch with your loved one. This was such a fun experience and we will definitely be doing this again next time we come down. I also love the informal aspect of just popping in and taking a car out for a hour or so. I had a wonderful and easy process getting a car from Monterey Touring Vehicles during the festival I was hosting! I even got some great photos with me and the cars. The staff and management team are excellent and were so accommodating. I rented two days in a row and got two different cars. A 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible and a 1954 Chevy Bel Air Convertible. Both cars were comfortable and in perfect shape! It was pretty surreal being in them! I'd definitely rent again with them. If you have a chance, stop by their warehouse location- it's decked out to look vintage just like the cars! It even has a retro diner sitting area. read more
