I brought my car to Gochee's Garage because it would not start. I was told the issue was a faulty fuel pump and was charged approximately $1,800 for the repair. When I picked up the car and began driving it home, it immediately started running roughly and the check engine light began blinking -- indicating an active misfire. This serious issue did not exist when I originally brought the car in. I returned the vehicle the next business day. Rather than re-checking their work or considering that these symptoms appeared immediately after the fuel pump repair, the shop diagnosed a completely different issue (spark plugs) and charged me an additional $900. What was most frustrating was being told that these were "two separate problems," that the timing was "just a coincidence," and that it was reasonable to pay full price for both repairs -- even though the second issue only appeared after the first repair and was not caught during the initial diagnosis. While it was acknowledged that it was highly unlikely the spark plugs happened to fail on the exact same day as the fuel pump replacement, the shop refused to consider the possibility that something was missed or that something occurred during the repair. After posting a review, the owner publicly stated that he hoped to discuss the matter further and work toward a resolution. I followed up with a direct email, but more than two weeks passed without any response. Given the lack of follow-through, I have filed a formal complaint with the New York State DMV so that a neutral third party can review the situation and find a resolution. I am sharing this experience so future customers are aware -- not only of the repair outcome, but also of what happened afterward. I expected the shop to stand behind its work when new problems appeared immediately following a major repair. That did not happen here, and I cannot recommend this shop. read more

I have been a customer of Gochee's for over twenty years. I cannot recommend them more highly. Number one reason: Trust. They care about you and your business. They do what it takes to fix things right. Number two reason: Reliable. They fix things. They don't sort of fix things. I have sometimes thought that the price of something was too high and went elsewhere and regretted it. Others quick fixes don't last and in the end Harry and Eric's team has always been right. Number three reason: Quality. They fix things. They fix them right the first time. They tell you the options. You can trust their diagnosis. I have an example. When Gochee's does break jobs they alway replace the disks and rotors (ok I don't know if it is always, but for me, they always... and to be honest I may be a little hard on the petals). This is more expensive, but it is the right way. You can't cost effectively machine rotors anymore and replacing just the pads is a short term fix that leads to performance / break life issues. So Gochee's seems expensive but it isn't. It is fair and right. So what is your time and aggregation worth. Do you want a quality job done right? What is it worth to get an estimate that expresses the true cost to fix your issue... not sort of fix it.. for now, worth? Again. Call them they get it right. read more

I brought a car with heavy rust under for a few things (belts replacement, check engine light and airbag lights on, muffler replacement). After TWO DAYS they tell me that they can't work on the car because it is too rusty. I understand their concern and don't have a problem with it. However, I was charged $190 for 1-1/2 hours of work! They didn't take care of the check engine and airbag lights (no rust issues there). So I would like to know how they spent the 1-1/2 hours which I paid for. After my local mechanic passed away last year I was hoping to find another to bring in my cars and establish a long term relationship (I do have several newer, non rusty ones) but Gochee's won't be it. read more

Just moved to the area and was looking for a convenient garage with fast, friendly service. I found it here. I literally Googled the garage closest to my new house and found Gochee's Garage. I called them and they fit me right in (told me to come now) for an oil change and tire repair. Prices were comparable to what I've paid in the past. Wow! It's like walking into 1964 - the waiting room with the 25c candy dispensers, wood paneling, and black leather couches! They had my car ready in 45 minutes, and even told me my tires did not need to be rotated, even after I had requested it (and obviously would pay for it). One major ownside though - the waiting room was FILTHY. May have actually been cleaned last in 1964. My two year old said from across the room, "What is this, Mommy?" and the receptionist knew immediately it must be a dead fly - sure enough! There were many on the couch and floor. If they could just freshen up the waiting room - I would say this is a solid family-friendly, neighborhood garage. read more

I have lived in Delmar for around 30 years. I drove my cars for a living and put many miles on them over the years. This place is NOT expensive in the long run. You can get your oil changed at the local quick lube if you want but if you want someone to look your car over every time it comes in, and I'm not talking about nit-picking, then this is the place for you. They catch things. They have on occasion had to do expensive work but it has always saved me in the long run. Great people. read more

When I lived in Albany, I brought my car here for years. While they may be a little more pricey than bargain basement garages, they always did good work and never recommended unnecessary repairs. Gochee's let me know when I could postpone having work done (a mechanic that prioritizes honesty over making money-imagine that!) and when I needed something fixed, they got it done quickly. read more
